ALL Travelers Must-Know These Korean Phrases [Essential Travel] 

My wife and I visited Seoul in 2017. One day while walking the streets I became separated from my wife, and I suddenly realised I had a big problem. I had no money, no phone, I couldn't speak Korean, and I didn't know how to find my way back to our hotel. I tried stopping two police officers but one of them just raised his hand and said 'No English' and they kept walking. They didn't seem at all curious why a foreigner wanted to talk to the police. I eventually found a convenience store, and the woman understood enough English to make a call for me. She seemed alarmed when I said I needed the police. When two police officers arrived one of them was in his mid twenties, while the other one looked fiftyish, close to my own age. Neither of them spoke English but the younger one had a translation app on his phone that could translate what I spoke. Using this app they were able to take me back to my hotel. As I got out of the car the older one sternly told me that next time I come to Korea I should learn to speak Korean. This infuriated me. I speak English, German, and Indonesian fluently. I can speak conversational French, Swedish, Russian, and Mandarin. I always try to learn languages wherever I go but unfortunately I was only in Korea for three days, not enough time to learn much. Meanwhile he apparently could not speak any language other than Korean and he thought he could lecture me about learning languages. I'm learning Korean now, and have just mastered Hangul which is surprisingly very easy
