Ultras can grow large and small at will but since the monsters are large most of the time their small form is rarely used, they can also be very violent when they kill the monsters(some of them literrally decapitate them in half, pretty gruesome ) but some of the monsters do become good and help the Ultramen.

There are at least 3 ways an Ultraman can transform. 1- An Ultra can merge/assimilate with their human host so they can move freely on Earth, and only transform when needed to 2- An Ultra can even disguise as a human to blend in on Earth 3 - Humans can become an Ultraman entirely through the means of obtaining the power to become one. An example of this would be Gaia and Agul where they obtain their power to become Ultras through the will of the Earth.

Small fact 3: Do you know it's the movie Ready Player One? The film should have appeared (cameo) of Ultraman (original version in 1966). But due to a franchise dispute between the creator of Ultraman, Tsuburaya Production, and the receiver of Chaiyo Production (Thailand). This made it impossible for Ultraman to appear, so the producer replaced Giant Iron :

Small fact 5: As you said, Ultraman Zearth is actually two movies that mistakenly use Parody for the Ultra Series. This also happens in Super Sentai (there are 2 Akibaranger movies) or No Rider parts are "parody" of Kamen Rider series :D

Small fact 4: There are special Ultraman movies. Just like the compilation video you've seen, there are parts that were shot outside of Japan. Ultraman Great (Ultraman: Toward the future) is in Australia, Ultraman Powered (Ultraman: The Ultimate Hero) is in the US, along with The Ultra Force (or Ultraman USA) is an anime set in the US. The Ultraman movies also have English dub versions aimed at the international market :D

Small fact: One thing that makes the Ultraman series (Ultra series) so special compared to Super Sentai or Kamen Rider is that the movies from day one to the present have a certain connection, form a shared superhero universe, called the Ultraverse.

In their settings, Ultraman is an alien race coming from a planet called The Land of Light, also known as The Ultra Star or the Land of Ultra, which is the homeworld of the Ultras (The Ultraman race) of Nebula M78. It is located 3 million light years away from Planet Earth, is 60 times the size of Earth, and has a population of over 18 billion. They are like intergalactic peacekeepers with super-strength, superpowers, and special abilities. The movie Roughly explains Ultraman's origin

Ultraman Leo homeworld is Planet L77 in Leo constellation while his predecessor from M78 or Land of Light. Leo and Astra are twin and prince of their planet. However, their planet was destroyed by evil aliens and only they survive. Astra head looks different from Leo because he was kidnapped by evil alien and tortured. Unlike M78 ultras who can fight on Earth for 3 minutes, Leo and Astra only 2 minutes and 47 seconds.

Small fact 2: The feature of the Ultra series is that the main characters in the film are all giant superheroes. Except for the character Reimon in a spin-off series. The Ultraman mostly came from the inhabitants of the Land of Light - Nebula M78. Others have different backgrounds. If so, I'll list them later.

For Ultraman Tiga, it pronounce TEE-GA, not TAI-GA.

Ultraman USA was a joint collaboration between Tsuburaya Productions and Hanna-Barbera. The former wanted to make an action cartoon for Saturday mornings to bring Ultraman to the United States and they got some top talent for the production. Keita Amemiya of Kamen Rider and Garo did the character design for the monsters and Ultras and several talented voice actors such as Charlie Adler (Buster Bunny/ The Cryptkeeper) signed on. Unfortunately, NBC, the broadcast home of HB cartoons at the time, said no to the project and it became an animated TV movie that people eventually just forgot about. Probably because it was too scary for kids with the monster designs. It is a pity given that HB flexed their animation muscles in a way we would not see again until the ‘90s with Swat Kats and Johnny Quest. Fortunately the story does sort of have a happy ending, Tsuburaya made live action versions of the costumes for Chuck, Beth and Scott in the 2010s and we still see them every so often in The Land of Light or on missions with the other Ultras.

The Ultraman race's power and energy are weakened outside of their own galaxy so much that it might kill them if they use it for more than 3 minutes, so in almost every Ultraman series or movie, they will find a courageous and good-hearted human to build a bond with, that will allow them to fight multiple times within 3 minutes mark after they are sent to protect Earth from Kaijus. Usually, that person's heroic act involves protecting others from a Kaiju leading to their death, which gives Ultraman the best chance to build a bond with that person. After forming this bond that person will be resurrected and will be given a transformer with power from the land of light so that the protagonist can transform to Ultraman at any time of need to fight a Kaiju, with a limit of three minutes before Ultraman's power is exhausted. The protagonist usually joins the local Kaiju or earth-defending team and transforms when Kaiju gets out of the team's control or when the team is all down. The protagonist usually makes an excuse like aiding a teammate or going alone to fight the kaiju at a better angle. Before transforming into Ultraman. The protagonist will usually keep his secret identity until the last battle or until every other member of the team finds out about it. This usually is when Ultraman has his last life to fight on Earth before leaving Earth for a long period of time to heal and recover before they lose the ability to turn into Ultaman ever again. On Earth, they don't have enough energy to appear on earth more than 3 minutes each time. But on their own planet and in the universes is much easier for them to maintain themselves as Ultraman.

Small fact 6: The latest Ultraman movie that will premiere this year will be Ultraman Blazar. The interesting thing about this series is that the male lead will not be a young boy like most of the Heisei period movies, or a junior member of a defense organization. Instead, there will be a commander, married with children, middle age. Ultraman Blazar also won't have a transformation, at least half the movie

There always seams to be some response team for the giant monsters/alien invaders in the series. Using custom jets, tanks, and other response vehicles to fight them or support the Ultraman. Gotta have toys to sell. Usually a member of the team is hiding the fact that he is Ultra. The names have changed just as much as the shows, from SSSP (special science search party) to TDF (Terrestrial Defense Force) to SAT (space attack force).

The creator of ultraman was heavily involved with the godzilla movies, he was also very religious which was why there was a lot of christian imagery throughout the series.
