The bone mail is awesome indeed as long as you can keep yourself alive. I'm sure it's just a typo since Fire damage is doubled, and I assume you meant heal with Bio
Thank you for making this video. You answered a question I had about the mechanics that I couldn’t find or really overlooked on the wiki. Thief glove does help rare steals. Everywhere I read said fixed 40-80% nothing boost rare steals, but by nature of increasing the chance that steal hits, it does. Thank you for clarifying.
Thank you for the comment, and you're quite welcome. It's an indirect increase as you won't get more of the rare steals compared to common, but you do get more per steal attempt 😊
Steal is the most annoying mechanic in any and all games. Every time I play FFIX I instantly regret it when I realize every boss fight is 10 minutes of failed steals.
Yeah, stealing in FF9 is somewhat of a nightmare. Especially if one wants to get all items, which I usually try to do. I can definitely relate to that feeling. At least it gets a little better with master thief, though I wish you'd get that earlier in the game. Stealing can be fun imo but it can also be a huge pain in the a** 😅
Funny, thats exactly why I like IX. I've always enjoyed quicker casual runs. That being the case I will try and steal whatever I can while enduring the boss fight .
Good video, hard to hear you a bit but I understood everything just the same. I gotta say the Titan, Gaia hammer steal, is one of the most frustrating steals to get and it makes me REALLY happy they added the autosave feature. To me that's the FF9 Fairy Flute equivalent, two very powerful items early in their games but you have to give up on searching for a career to have a chance to steal it.
Thank you, and thanks for the feedback, I know there are still a lot of things to improve in my video making. Yeah, it is a really bad one if you want to steal it from there. It is, as you say, really strong, but so worth it if you manage. 😊
@@Slerran Audio is the worst, I usually have the worst audio with streams but just take some time to mess with your audio settings, and make sure your mic is facing the correct way (if you have an external), I had mine for years and didn't realize I had it facing wrong. As for the steal, it's a good one, I got it once on a Ps1 file and Faris went berserker all of W2 up until Exdeath's castle, I wish there were more steals that gave weapons that weren't accessible until at least 2 towns further so you'd be more incentivized to use thief.
Agreed! I did not have an external mic when I was recording this, but do now and I think my audio has improved at least a little. It is hard to find the correct settings still and I do have the unfortunate habit om mumbling a bit :P Nice one! Yeah stealing is OK in the game but it could most certainly have more epic steals. One of my favourite steals is the Flame Ring you can steal from the Red Dragon in the "Monster"-in-a-Box"-chest in the Barrier Tower. It can be repeated even without "Return" since the chest closes when you run from the dragon.
I do love how the classes work with each other well in ff5. Besides return and steal or control and learning blue magic there are such a lot of fun combos one can come up with
Missed Blitz Whip from Flaremancers. Also, Sehkmet can be Captured after being stolen from for more Thieves Gloves without running away. I think you mentioned Protect Ring from Soul Cannon but didn't show it. Pretty good list. Covering neat or unique drops would show off even more of the game. There's a lot of cool items in this game IMO. At least with Twintania, the axe is a common steal while chraging Gigaflare. Too bad Tinkerbell is a rare drop NOT while charging Gigaflare, so certainly the most annoying battle.
Yeah I never realised the Blitz Whip was not obtainable any other way, good point! I would not have expected to be able to capture Sehkmet and still keep him around, interesting point. Thanks, there are indeed many good drops as well but I decided to focus on stealing in this one :)
Steal having a base 40% chance is pretty terrible, no wonder the ability is so underrated. I'm used to it having a "bypass accuracy check" level of default accuracy, having only the enemy's steal rate matter.
you've mathematically explained why I found the steal mechanic in FF games generally annoying, and I enjoy the game more just not dealing with it. Not really fun to try 33 times to get a 50% chance to get a rare item. And you have to use a guide to figure out where to steal.
I can understand your frustration. Stealing, as you say, almost requires that you have a guide. Rare steals are quite something to try to get in this game. It takes a lot of patience
Stealing Mythril Swords and then selling them is a good (if tedious) method of getting money in the first world, especially in a low level game or other restricted runs where you have access to stealing.
It's worth noting that the Fire Powered Ship is only inaccessible during the first world during the brief period between completing the Library of the Ancients and acquiring the airship, it's right next to the airship when you land it at the Catapult, though in most scenarios you probably don't need hi potions enough for going back there to be worth it
Wait a minute, can you enter the Fire-Powered Ship from the catapult? I honestly had completely missed that you can do that. That makes those steals at least more useful. 👌
The Harvester around Crescent Island have Death Sickles. They're pretty strong and have a chance of casting Death. I used it religiously before obtaining the Twin Lance. It should also be mentioned you can find flame Rings through the Alchimia's Toad. Just use a Maiden's Kiss on it and it'll become a Red Dragon.
The Death Sickles are great, but it's a drop and not a steal, which is why it's not in the video. Fair enough about the Alchimia fight, I could've mentioned that they can be found there as well.
Are those the toads in leviathans cave? I swear I've got flashbacks of using a maidens kiss on a toad to only be surprised with a freaking dragon in one of the final fantasy games 😂
Other then stealing the Mythril weapons in World 1 and don't really find steal to be THAT useful AFTER getting the 2nd set of job classes other then stealing all the Genji equipment off of Gilgamesh that is
In my case I only stayed in the thief job after its mastered in world 1 NOT for stealing but to make sure NO Back attacks every trigger even with Thief mastered on the entire party you STILL need to set its no back attacks skill for the Free Lancer (Mime job in world 3) to make sure those types of battles never occur.
Pretty good steal guide for people who would rather watch a video instead of looking up a list online. Your opinions about what steals are worthwhile is a nice addition as well. You did miss some good common steals though, you mention a lot of rare steals from enemies but don't mention the commons which are often more useful depending on your party: World 1 boss Manticore: common steal dragon fang Final Void area Crystal Dragons: common steal elixir World 2 boss Castle Exdeath: common steal elixir World 3 boss Leviathan: common steal elixir Void boss Azulmagia: common steal elixir Void boss Catastrophe: common steal elixir Void boss Necrophobia: common steal elixir This group of mostly bosses is a way for the thief to easily contribute something during boss fights, since the job typically isn't much of a fighter. Maybe you don't think Chemist mix items are good? Void enemy Orucat: common steal dark matter. There are a couple bosses with common steal dark matters, but the Orucats do almost nothing and can come in packs of 4 so they're the easiest to take advantage of. Dark Matter is in a bunch of Chemist mixes, the most useful being the Death Potion mix with phoenix downs which inflicts death status on enemies and never misses as long as the enemy is vulnerable to death status. While this is late in the game and there are dark matters in the pyramid, those are fights you might want to skip and there are still enemies in the void you might want to kill with Death Potion mixes like form 2 of TwinTania and Necrophobia's barriers or even Iron Giants if you want exp (not needed with Chemist, other than to show dominance). W2 enemy Blue Dragon: common steal dragon fang Void enemy Great Dragon: common steal dragon fang Bahamut and Shinryu also have common steal dragon fangs, the latter is actually better to steal from because you can steal and flee before it can act and gather a bunch of fangs if you want. Dragon fangs are in many useful chemist mixes, e.g. dragon fang + potion = +20 levels on a character. If you have a Chemist, these common steal fangs are much more useful than Shinryu's rare Dragon Whisker steal.
Good points and I could've made som honorable mentions I suppose. I did mention the Elixir from Crystal Dragon but not as the main steal from it. The other Elixirs could've been mentioned I suppose though I chose the repeatable enemies for that item rather than bosses :) I am well aware of how broken mixing is :D I do however usually find it easier to farm for those through drops as they are usually dropped at a 100 % drop rate from the right enemies which is why I didn't include them. But again you do have a good point that I could've mentioned where you could steal them as well even though I usually don't get them that way, at least from the enemies which have tham as common steals.
The brave blade is great...in replays (where you challange yourself to a no-running run). If you don't know about it (for instance, this is the first time playing the game) it is pointless.
Yeah the Brave Blade has it's uses but the knife is more versatile and deals a little more damage. The problem with the knife is that you do need to run a lot in order to make it great. And as you say, with certain limitations or playstyles the blade will certainly be the stronger of the 2.
@@Slerran one hitch would be a persons strategy for stealing multiple items from an enemy that only appears once like sekmet. In that case, you would only be able to get one or else forego the brave blade. I've forgotten if the brave blade is compatible with magic sword, but if it was it would be great.
great job with video but final fantasy 5 SNES needs a strategy guide in English with all enemies and hit points and magic points rare and common steals as mentioned.
good video, thank you for your time and effort, i am currently playing the pixel remaster version but i think most if not all info can be used :) on a side note, too bad the pixel remaster cut the content from the advance versions, and fix all the bugs from both versions (snes and gba) >INCLUDING THE GOOD ONES< :(
Thanks for the comment. Yes, I believe this should still be valid for the pixel remaster as far as I know anyway. I'm a little split in that matter, a part of me likes that it's the original that got the remastering but at the same time that additional content can be quite fun 😊 well I guess we'll have to take the good with the bad fixes 😅
@@Slerran Apparently the Javelin is not missable. I had a panic attack. The desert south of the Pirates' Cave in world 3 has Sand Bears. Still a great video.
@@SlerranI’m currently on a mission to platinum all the FFs AND 100% them as well. (Platinum doesn’t equal 100%) I’m going through the pixel remasters atm. FF6 next, any guides?
Right, they can be fought in the merged world as well. It's still a unique steal, just not only in the first world 👍 Nice project! I've been thinking of making something for 6 as well, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm working on something else atm so it won't be in the near future at least 😊
It is a rare steal, so it could take a long time to get it because of that. It's only a 1 in 25-ish on a successful steal attempt unfortunately. It's basically dumb luck, so you'll just have to keep trying 😔
Another monster has this weapon and as it doesn't walk alone it is less annoying to use the return spell, it is an octopus that roams the waters southeast of the Phoenix Tower but most of the time it is accompanied by an annoying Aevis
No you do not get to keep the items you stole before using return. So you cannot steal more than once per enemy per battle, return just helps so you don't have to keep trying to get new encounters.
