The technology of Insight is fundamentally similar to what the current Civic Hybrid has. The second generation of this vehicle boasts of a 4.8L/100 km fuel consumption. The power unit itself is the same as the second-generation Civic Hybrid , but the i-VTEC functions only as a variable cylinder system (VCM). The VCM suspends all cylinders, making it possible to run the motor in the same way as the Civic Hybrid. The motor output requires 10 kilowatts (kW) or more under the conditions of AT-PZEV (Advanced Technology --Partial Credit Zero Emission Vehicle) certified by the California Department of Air Resources . It has seven batteries and a voltage of 100.8 V.
