MAR is one weird anime. .. It doesn't have any special eye candy but somehow everyone remember it as one of the most entertaining manga / anime. .. I love this series especially Phantom
It is definitely very weird and very unique. I feel like it does many things wrong (pacing always feels a bit too slow, battles are kinda uninteresting and feeling lackluster, animation is mediocre at best, the series feels way to childish at some points etc), yet it does even more things right (main characters are all unique and memorable and most of them grow organically throughout the series, backstories are always interesting to watch and some are absolute masterpieces (*cough cough* Phantom *cough cough*), the villains are very diverse in their personalities, histories and motives for joining the chess pieces, some of the scenes (like this one) are bone-chilling and incredible in every way etc). All in all, I enjoyed this show as a kid very much, yet know, after rewatching it almost 10 years later, I feel like I enjoyed it even more :D
@@_x_m_m_6976 Ye. .. Eventhought the animation was basically 3 layered repetitive , but the plot is awesome as fuck. .. I don't know if I'm the only one but every fights were so good and anticipating
@@_x_m_m_6976 I have same feeling lol. I also watched it as kid and love it. But the anime didn't age well. Like the battle feel like so RPG-ish. I guess there is nostalgia bias on it too.
@@ravengenesis8510 Honestly, just download the series and rewatch segments, it's better that way since you can hone in on the gems. Most are probably on RU-vid too like Jack being turned into stone, Ginta and the candlewax guy, or the girl who created a dream world. To add to the good things though, the OP, ED, and soundtrack are pretty great, even the interlude jingle matched with the manga art.
@@Ander0072originalv2 Nah, no need. I watched it already. Tbh i actually angry at Ginta and Jack when fighting Kandis, about why they so clueless that Kandis need take damage activate her ARM. Kandis even hurt herself to achieved it, yet Jack keep attacking her untill it's too late. The senior like Alan also just silent. I could talk more but my point still there about this anime aged poorly. But yeah, i can let it slide now since it's for kid, maybe.

Would you say it awakened your “Flames of Recca”(the creator of Mär’s other series, which is sadly better animated despite being almost 10 years older than mär)
@@brockhodge3225 Dude….you did not have to go for the kill. Also for Flames of areca you kind have to go and read the manga because of how it ends in the anime. Not a bad thing though, but I just think it’s ending was too meh in the anime. It was like, “oops, we cannot longer animate this series, have a this ending!”.
They didn't give this Alibaba much backstory it looks like, but from the gist of the series, we got humans fighting others who DO intend to kill, not just defeat. A guy with a magic genie wasn't going to let his opponent live.
In his defense he was within bounds to do so. He's a former Cross Guard. Alibaba was a Chess Piece. Note that the Chess Pieces are heavily comprised of anarchists, mass murderers, assassins, and people who have done far worse than throwing a guy into a volcano. The only Chess who can honestly be viewed in a relatively good light are Garon and his kids, Ash because he fights simply to protect the children, and Ian because his whole motive for being a Chess Piece is to protect Gido. Also maybe Chaton given that she gets a 'love equals redemption' later on alongside Loco. As far as the other Chess we have an insane manchild in Halloween (really, his motives are quite petty when we learn them), Roland who is obsessed with Phantom, a good chunk of the rooks and Bishops are bloody maniacs, Rapuzel is a vain hag who alongside her brother are among THE worst of the Chess Pieces, Chimera who essentially is the living embodiment of the trope 'break the cutie', Wizar who want to grow a giant tree fueled purely by the sorrow and despair of humanity, Peta who is essentially Phantom 2.0, and the list goes on.

Idk why I thought this anime was more upbeat than this. Don't get me wrong that's not a shot at it, I just thought it was more we'll say "kid friendly". This one got WAY darker than I remember and it's not even gratuitously violent either just implied brutality sprinkled in. Goes hard for the era this came out.
Dorothy and Alan were the "dark spots" of MaR. they both went all in with the "this is a war" mentality while the others treated this like it was a budokai tenkaichi. it just shows the difference in the team composition, the kids and nanashi are more laxed (except from some specific moments) alviss is the middle child who doesn't go full murderer but also isn't there to play around, and the last two are the girl with a mission to kill the queen and the guy who literally survived the first war and enlsited again. I like the fact that a couple of them could give it a darker tone and actually make this whole opera have a bit more stakes

Alibaba is definitely not Knight material. ÄRMs take time to synchronize with their masters. It takes training, sixth sense, and a level of magical power strong enough to fight with the ÄRM effectively. Guardian ÄRMs which are amongst the most powerful ÄRMs need to be synchronized through training before you use them. Especially Guardian ÄRMs with their own will.
The other party would kill someone whatever way possible. Stop being so goody-goody two-shoes. Kill or be killed, however and by whatever means necessary.

Moraly grey are usualy those who do bad things for a good cause, when it is bad people who do good for a selfish purpose are just politicians and are simple as hell or villains who are forced by the state to work for the greater good. By going to far you mean when the first thinks he has to do bad things to succeed his goals even though logicaly they are counterproductive, another one comes to mind but it would be spoilers for invincible.

Lol he just killed someone and a kid said it's amazing and people celebrating? (Don't tell me chess pieces have done worse or the like) Any normal people should've freaked out when they see someone killing another people in front of them, no matter who they are.
I know a lot of people who watch these clips never watched the show, but, by this point, Ginta has heard about the carnage about the prior War Game and the current War Game that began while he was training. He also had to deal with the mass devastation of Vestry where the village was decimated and, if this wasn't a children's anime, all the people would've been killed as Ginta learns Giromu takes pleasure in killing people. Lastly, he encountered Nanashi and what happened at the rogue's hide out, so he has been exposed to the fact that his enemy's literally mass kill people by draining their blood. What I'm getting at is, this isn't some kid's first time witnessing death. By this point in the series, Ginta is used to combat, been exposed to the brutality of his enemies, and has come to terms that he's fighting a war, pushed by the sense of duty that he's doing things for the greater good. Therefore, how the scene played out made sense. Everyone was stunned by the overwhelming force Allen exhibited and then cheered. As for the rest of the people, lol, you say normal people, but normal relative to what? This is a middle ages fantasy world. It's not Berserk grim, but it's grim, especially as the previous War Games happened 6 years ago in the timeline. Everyone present has a recent memory of the war. If any of this was real, they probably would've freaked out like that right before the first War Game commenced and people were first exposed to wanton slaughter in MAR Heaven.
