England have good players, what they lack is an identifiable system and the patterns of play that come with picking the same players, drilling routines, and getting some team chemistry. At the end of the day all Southgate can do is pick the most players in their best positions and hope for the best. Clearly any coherent plan went out the window when he selected a bunch of players with almost no caps. You need the first team and the under levels playing a system and then that way there's at least some cohesion when new guys get called up to tournaments and it's not all brand new. This group of England players, save maybe Kane, Walker, Trippier and Stones, will be a force in 2 years time if they can get in a manager to pick consistent squads and play to England's key players strengths. Can't be afraid to rest some stars that are jaded, play the guys fit in form and ready to do their jobs. You see the difference when else mainoo Gordon and Palmer made when they did their cameos. Give them some minutes and they will produce. The premier league and champions League is harder than facing Slovakia, come on now..show these young stars some faith. Today though, I think Toney coming on gave Kane/Bellingham some freedom and Toney's power and skill created room for the other guys to get on the ball more. Maybe build on that next game.

Why is Southgate so scared to make changes?

Most of us have been anti-Southgate since 2018, but after tonight can anybody seriously still be pro-Southgate? The Full backs are the issue. They spend most the game not passing down the wing or in to midfield and 85% of the game reject passes that are on and instead pass back inside to centre backs. It slows the game down so much and leaves us not creating anything and just passing side to side
