Greg Burgess (guitars) comments: "What can we say about J.S. Bach that hasn't already been said? Musical genius? Greatest composer to ever walk the earth? It's all been written before, so I'll go to what he means to Allegaeon. I first heard this piece back in 2000, and it has been a dream of mine to arrange this piece for a metal band; it only took 20 years to make it a reality. For anyone who has never worked on Bach before, the learning process is painstaking. Just when you think it's a repeat of a section you've already learned, you're suddenly in a new key, or there is a variation that totally throws a wrench in your muscle memory. In short, recording this piece was the most challenging thing I've ever attempted in this band. And I'm insanely proud of it. Crank it loud and get lost in it." Riley McShane (vocals) adds: "Originally, these songs were part of the first draft track-listing of 'Apoptosis'. In fact, this alternate track-listing - including these two songs - ended up being the running order for the 'Apoptosis' LP. However, over a year after the initial release, we decided to put the songs out in a digital format for everyone to enjoy, just in time for the holiday season. Who needs Trans-Siberian Orchestra when you have Allegaeon covering Bach?"
This is one of the best pieces ever! I'm so tempted to post tagging Val from SF Ballet who did the ballet Lamberene...Bach with traditional African music. Here, Val...can you choreograph this please? :D
@@TheZigzagman Most symphonic metal has terrible orchestration imo, and a 3-5 piece metal band is roughly the same grouping of instruments that were actually used for the baroque and classical chamber music metal bands like to draw on and it sounds tighter, cleaner, heavier, and overall better to just arrange it for a metal band instead of drenching it in syrupy layers and layers of extra unneeded orchestration that's usually bland and hamfisted. What this band is doing here is doing this shit properly for a change and I fucking love it. It's basically 80s shred with blast beats at this point, which is dope.
Truly impressive. This should open up a whole new appreciation for J.S. Bach to people who otherwise may have never gave it much notice. Thanks for keeping this amazing music alive.
For those curious, there are two interpretations of this piece on RU-vid that are absolutely perfect. The first by the Netherlands Bach Society with a small baroque like ensemble, using gut strings and everything. The second on the harpsichord by Jean Rondeau. Search for BWV 1052.
Well, there are actually "three" interpretations of this piece on RU-vid that are absolutely perfect. To find the third one, just search for "Allegaeon - Concerto in Dm" on youtube.
Beautiful absolutely wonderful in the fullest sense of the word. This is sending me off the precipice of all I can and wish to be. Since I was a teenager I wished to transpose the master works of the past into modernity in such a manner as you have. It is not until listening to this that I have had the realization that I am not all I can be nor should be. That being said I need to rejuvenate my love for the guitar and this is the perfect catalyst I need to bring that to reality. Truly awe inspiring keep up the fantastic and wonderful work
@@DannyR121 Check Symbolik out. Corridors of the Consumed is a great song by them. And Le Serment de Tsion by First Fragment. Obscura, Necrophagist, Inferi, and Spawn Of Possession all have classical influences.
@@DannyR121 Check out the entire artist roster of The Artisan Era. Save for one or two bands on there, quite a lot are heavily neo-classical inspired; you'll hear that in the riffs and solos. Begin with these four bands : Symbolik, Inferi, Flub and Stortregn
ALLEGAEON!!!!! I love the direction! Are we going to get an entire original work as an album? That would be phenomenal!!!!! Love your work fellas, this is a great idea. I was not loving the classic rock covers, though your take on YES was interesting... I find an original work in the vein of a concerto more interesting still! Amazing
Beautiful! Bravo !magnificent! I've said it before and ill say it again and will always metal musicians are the most talented and incredible people in all of music period thank god for metal, and the musicians who play it.🤘✌
Sorry to be nit-picky, but this is Bach’s Harpsichord Concerto No. 1, BWV 1052. It is not Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins, BWV 1043 (as listed in the description). I realize that Bach himself arranged many of his harpsichord concertos for different instruments, but the “Double Concerto” (BWV 1043) was arranged as a Concerto for Two Harpsichords in C minor, BWV 1062.
@@gregburgess4211 Thanks. This is an awesome arrangement. It's great to be able to buy and download this from Bandcamp for those of us who don't have the means for vinyl.
Holy shit man, this year just got surprised by Inferi EP, Psycroptic EP, and now this Allegaeon. let's hope next is Bloodshot Dawn and Divine Chaos \m/
Check out this guy's rendition too: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EFNFfaWyH_o.html Btw, he also covered Beethoven's Apassionata in a most exquisite manner: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oFRGg2kiu2k.html
I would love to join this band on any neoclassical tech death metal kick they evolve on here. Imagining myself doing some awesome flute metal sounds along with it.
And these stupid ads had to interrupt our good vibes for this awesome shit. Fucking aye, this country is already making trillions of dollars and they just want more smh
It's BWV1052! ;) And here's four of my favourite renditions of it: a) for cembalo: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XcsfDxojdV8.html b) for piano: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-osg_WmeLxQk.html c) for e-guitar (first YT rendition I was aware of): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EFNFfaWyH_o.html d) for e-guitar (a truly artistic rendition): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SP4-gHutUYw.html NJOY!
