I have this same boots in shell cordovan. The sole is more durable than you would think. That said, after a couple seasons I added sole protectors to mine and wear them year around in all sorts of weather. It is in fact my go to boot or shoe for inclement weather.
I did the same thing recently. Found some cheap stick on rubber soles and put them on with a bit of krazy glue. Now I wear them more often, great boots. Thanks for watching!
Tom, I have been going back and forth regarding purchasing Allen Edmond's Dalton Wingtip Boots for a year now and just ordered a pair that arrived yesterday. I went with the leather sole since I have galoshes by Swims, and it should suffice when it rains. I am now putting conditioner (Black Rock) on my new Dark Chilli Dalton Wingtips and then will break them in by wearing them inside on the carpet until they are pretty broken in. I like these dress boots, and I'm glad I finally pulled the trigger and purchased them. I appreciate the information you provide on quality footwear and other dress items. You do good work, and it is appreciated by gentlemen looking to upgrade their wardrobes.

Tom, another informative review and needed for those of us considering upgrading to a dress boot. The Allen Edmonds Dalton is a good-looking, appealing boot for a gentlemen's collection. You are correct about the walnut daltons. They were my least worn out of black, brown, chili. Sold em. They look nice but they're a bit loud. My fav daltons now are my shell burgundy ones, so comfortable and they've got dainite soles.
That’s awesome! I added the walnut color with dainite sole. I am wearing them more often now, they are breathable so you can wear them in warmer weather, and they are very comfortable!
Love my daltons as well! I have the same fit problem as well, had to go with 11.5 E. Overall, I get a little pinch still in the toe box because it’s a narrower boot, but it’s a fantastic boot! I would highly encourage you to wear yours more, the dalton is more rugged than you would think!
Hi Tom, since Allen Edmonds is having their Memorial Day sale, I was thinking of purchasing a pair of their Dalton Wingtip Boots in Chili, but would the size be any different from their standard shoe size? I have four pairs of their shoes, penny loafers, cap toe oxfords, and with the size of 11D. Do you think 11D should work?
I watched reviews, read up on the Allen Edmonds manufacturing methods and history, it all sounded great. So I bought a pair of Chukka Boots, great product, great purchasing experience overall, I decided to buy more shoes. Bought a pair of Dalton Wingtip Dress Boots. I received 2 different color boots, also one of the boots seemed to be a different vintage or much older and had been on display for some time. Multiple price tickers attached and removed, physical dimensions were different, a different cut of the same style. I called customer service, they apologized and said they would send out another pair, free shipping. Got the next pair, shoes are with out a doubt reject, factory second shoes. I wear a size 9.5, the shoes I received are a size 8 or possible even smaller, but marked as a 9.5 D The shoes were also misshapen. The left looked like a right, the toe was curved outward. The worst quality I've seen from any shoe company, shameful quality.
I own a pair of the Long Branch boots as well. Great boot! I wear them all the time. They're not quite as dressy as the Daltons though with the lug soles.
Totally agree. Splurged and got the oxblood cordovan .... and they were beautiful.... but I had to return them because the heel and ankle were so ridiculously loose that they were super uncomfortable. they also looked awkward, the way they break/fold is lame. You have pull the laces so tight the top edges touch, but the area around and above the arch is completely loose. Also, relative to the cavernouse floppy bucket fit of the rear, the toe is very tight. I'm sorry, but the fit is ridiculous. I even asked an A&E employee and they agreed they do fit weird. It's a shame. I think they are the most beautiful wingtip boots available, but they are unwearable.
I was planning on doing that, but I’ve since removed the rubber from my dress shoes. I’m just going to resole leather soles with rubber when they need it. I’ve been wearing the daltons much more, I just check the weather first. I’m just going to run them until the soles need replacing, then resole them with dainite rubber.
New subscriber here. Love your videos, great content. I do own both the Red Wing Iron Rangers 8119's and the Allen Edmonds Daltons in the Oxblood color. However, my Dalton's have dainate soles, which makes them more versatile. I did have to go with a wider width. Keep up the good work.
Thank you, and welcome to the channel! I saw the dalton comes in a waterproof version with the dainite. I may get them resolved with dainite when I need new soles. Glad you are enjoying the content!
The fit of the heel is a tad loose, but not enough for me to cause any comfort or concerns. The heel has not become separated from the rest of the shoe, although I don’t wear these in the rain or snow.
@@tommilano5431 I usually find I need a wide for the width of my foot but then that makes the heel loose unless I really strap them on. I like Aldens B heel and D width but not their price.

Agree. The dainite sole is still somewhat low profile so it still looks dressy and its comfortable. I do have both higgins mill, 1st st, and daltons in shell and love them all.
