@Steve Jobs The issue is Iverson is so good at being the hero/the man, he may find some difficulties adapting to today's game, which is a lot less reliant on isolation plays. Players like Curry can only be produced and can only shine in today's NBA because he is the best example of a new type of superstars
The reason why Philly 76ers lost this series 4-1 wasn’t cuz of Kobe or the Lakers being too good it was cuz of the damn Shaq cuz Iverson could score all day however Lakers had Shaq who would basically cancel out Iverson and that’s when the rest of the lakers would finish the business! I just donk get how Mutombo didnt do a better job on Shaq tho he was the defensive player of the year but it’s like he shit his pants Vs Shaq ! Philly could have won this series especially after winning game and games 3,4 and 5 were at Philadelphia. It was coaching mistake, frankly speaking Larry B. Sixers head coach made a mistake ! I’m not even kidding when I say this if I was Sixers coach I’d better job . What Larry should have done after winning game 1 and he saw how dominant Shaq was , starting with game 2 should have had 2 guys on Shaq , double teamed him and not let him catch the ball in the paint so close to the rim ! Idk why or how come they didn’t figure this out, it was simple what needed to be done . Double teamed Shaq and have Raja bell on Kobe and if someone else beats u that’s fine but I wouldn’t have let Shaq play Mutombo 1v1 at all ! Also what I would do once we in a penalty i would have fouled Shaq right away as soon as he caught the ball 🏀 cuz he couldn’t shoot free throws and what that would also do is other Lakers wouldn’t get a chance to get going cuz Shaq would be shooting those free throws but none of that was done sadly ! Another big mistake Larry brown and the coaching mistake made was they had a young and healthy Nene ( Nene who played for Denver after ) the guy could shoot and also was another big body on Shaq and since he had a mid range game Shaq would have to guard him outside the paint and that would have opened the lanes for Iverson who was too fast ! And those fouls on Shaq I’d have a player that never plays even if he fouls out ! If nothing else philly would have won at least another game ! But like I said Larry brown and the rest of the coaching stuff didn’t make any adjustments at all !
Aaron McKie -- Sixth Man of the Year DMutombo -- DPOY&Rebounding Leader Larry Brown -- Coach of the Year Honestly speaking AI's teammates are a bit underrated. They are all phenomenal in the defensive side. AI did all he could in the offense and his team did the rest on the court. It is unfair to call these teammates and the coach to be "Carried" by AI. I totally agree that A.I. is one of the greatest SGs of all time -- the shortest scoring leader, shortest MVP and a fearless heart. But his greatness is not based on underrating his teammates.
THAT STEP-OVER! Allen Iverson should be the Cover of NBA2K18. What i love most about Iverson was his mid range game. Those hops into a little fadeaways in the key.
Dom you are a great basketball youtuber! Keep up the good work. I especially enjoy your videos on the history of the league. Greetings from Sao Paulo, Brazil
only real hoopers understand why Iverson had a 42% FG percentage. I can't stand these geeks who didn't/don't even watch the games or play always saying he was inefficient. the game was different then and when you have below average offensive players on your team you have harder shots. especially when there are levels of defenders designed to specifically stop you and leave your teammates open. add to the fact that he was 6'0" (probably a little less, if you've seen him in person you'd know) with guys 4 to 6 inches taller than you guarding you every night. you put AI on the Celtics right now and he'd be getting 33ppg easy! probably more. especially the way IT has been scoring (28ppg).
This game made me fall back in love with NBA basketball after MJ retired in 1998. One of the greatest individual performances ever. The way he fearlessly drove to the lane and challenged prime Shaq in the paint is just incredible.
I was a lakers fan around tht time, and I remember i couldn't stand this guy , but somehow the hate shifted to pure love and respect for his toughness and extreme talent. Till this day he's still my favorite ball player of all time then Kobe
+Steph Curry The G.O.A.T Kyrie is a sensational ballhandler, maybe the best so far but for me A.I is still better because the way he can control the ball while going at an amazing speed and he got it done easier than Kyrie
This is a performance for the ages. I know they lost the series but the little guy played his heart out... wow man. Kobe didn’t know what to do with him, rest his soul
Go to 1:25 and see how far Kobe was already playing off of him, and he still bought on that jab step and gave even more space. That’s how terrified they were of his ability to drive.
At 2:21 Iverson think so quick. The way he drove and quickly pull back to the shot knowing Shaq was ready to block/foul/bodied him!! Just amazing A.I is the man!!!!!!
1. mvp and all star selectionallen iverson 2: dpoy dikembe mutumbo 3. 6th man of the year aaron mckie 4. another all star selection theo ratliff 5. coach of the year larry brown. yet they had "nobody"?????
2:21 was beautiful, ppl think those up close shots are easy, they can be harder actually, and what did in a matter of mili seconds was go from "lay it up" to "oh fuck it's Shaq......PULL UP 5 footer, SWIIIIIISH"
We can talk about mj Kobe and bron but Allen Iverson will always be the poster child for heart in my opinion. The man played like he didn’t mind dying out there
Favorite game of all time. Watched it live at military school in 8th grade. I fell in love with AI as a player. Not the best best by far my favorite of all time baby.
18 year anniversary of the most disrespectful moment in NBA history lol. And HOW DID you guys get the replay footage so clear??? No camera from 2001 looks that good in 2019 lol EDIT: Nearly 2 years later and this video is still one of my favs
They left the best part of the broadcast off. As Iverson is walking in the back to the locker room you can hear me yelling at the top of his lungs, Kirk Cousins style, "you can put those goddamn brooms away we ain't going anywhere put those goddamn brooms away"
I watch basketball but when he started playing I didn't miss a beat I always bet on whatever team he was playing on that's the SON I NEVER HAD Iris Iverson !♥️ and he's truly miss as a ball player much love
As a rookie he scored 40+ 5 straight games . During this final run he was Avrg 50 seemed liked every other game if not 50 it was 40 especially eastern semis and finals what u ppl don’t understand back than it was more physical you could hand check , there was no easy fouls like today instance HARDEN ! I’ll remind you all that Sixers went 7 games , after 7 games after 7 games just to reach the nba Finals that year and playing 7 games back than was like playing 21 play off games today like I said cuz of physicality he was buried , injured and what not but he was a worrior and didn’t give up got that team to the nba finals it was amazing to watch ( sure the coach Larry brown didn’t know who he had on the bench and never gave him a chance to play Nene , he was better then Gaiger or Mutombo offensively and they needed that vs lakers more than anything and idk why he never gave nene a chance to play back than , also they had raja bell who was solid defender but didn’t play much ) so let’s analyze starting 5 for the Philly Iverson aka the answer can shoot , can take it in whole package , next to him Eric snow it was a miracle when he’d hit a jump shot , mutombo same like snow not a treath offensively at all , Aron McKee he could hit shots also create , and jones catch and shoot guy solid bench player that’s it , bench was Raja Bell , Matt Geiger and that’s about it now how can you beat lakers with just 1 pure shooter/scorer on ur team ? Sure mutombo played great D so did snow and McKee however they needed points didn’t happen as they faced lakers who didn’t even loose a game before the finals who swept everyone easy didn’t brake a sweat while like I said it was 7 games series for iverson and the Sixers , so they come to Los Angeles Iverson was on fire just torching the lakers until T lue came in an shot him down for a while ( as he was grabbing Iverson the whole time , but back than that was the game much better to watch and no calls HARDEN if u just look at somebody ) however Iverson hits a long 3 and after that he was on fire again and who would have thought Iverson and the Sixers five La their first play off loss that year amazing game 2 happened and you could tell that wasn’t the same Allen Iverson we seen tru out the play offs and the game one of the finals , it looked like he wasn’t him self I Thought it would be one game however it just got worse from there on and la beat Sixers 4 straight games and thats all she wrote I belive all those 7 game series and 40,44, 47 52 , 55 , 53 point games finally took a toll on Iverson he basically ran out of the gas and you could tell that on him the way he was playing just like Lebron him self did 2015 finals he ran out of gas sad but true !!!
Super talented. He doesn't even practice alot and was more talented in football, yet he's still a HOF basketballer. He was first overall pick in the most talented nba draft ever and he's just 6 foot. who else in this era is gonna be picked first with that height? You'll see draft comparison cons stating 'too short'. Lol. Tells you that much.
