People have complained about the camera work but I think it was spot on for this performance. It added to the sense of energy of the performance. It placed the viewer inside the band during the performance. It focused on the intricate figuring of the flugelhorn when appropriate. It moved over to other members of the band when appropriate. I say bravo and well done. Very enjoyable!
Complain about the camera-work all you want, but I'm grateful that one of my students sent me this link (several of my students worked on this piece in early 2024). Chuck M's music is classic now and this performance is exemplary! Been a fan of Al Vizzutti since I heard him on Chick C's "Music Magic" album while I was still growing up in NYC. Got to meet Al at VCU and learn from him about his approach to practice (that he learned from Raphael Mendez). No motion sickness for me, just love and admiration for a masterful trumpet/flugelhorn player and these Rebel Alliance Jazz Ensemble players!
Just please take look at Allens lip muscles motionless expression and amazingly beautiful and buttery tone on flugelhorn, NEVER EVER heard that before, this time he beat himself BIG TIME!!!!
Nice long phrases, Allen! -- something that my eyes were first opened to by Sonny Rollins. This piece would have been truly epic with solos everywhere - 12 minutes long I say! - you've got the talent and the composition almost demands it. Beautiful sax section blending. Thanks to all, including the recording experts!
Great performance. We are currently playing this in a community concert band I'm in. To the camera operator: thanks for uploading, but next time, find a good spot from which to shoot, set up a tripod, pan and zoom.
100% agree. I'm sure Mr. Vizzutti is too polite to say anything, but I know I'd be annoyed having a camera shoved in face from a different angle every 5 seconds. I stopped watching and just listened after about 30 seconds lol.
Camera man is moving tooooo much! Does not have a steady hand to get the players. Trade in this current camera man for one that has a steady hand; it's like the band is in an earthquake!
