I would like to know the same info. I bought a prefilled bag set and when they arrived...no filling! I bought a "Sand Tube" which is supposed to be used for extra weight in the trunk of a car or truck bed in winter. It wasn't sand it was dried dirt!
Some news! I was able to buy New Production Remington Small Rifle Primers at my local D&R Sports. I haven't seen new production components from Remington in a long time.
@@jeffallen3382 There are a lot of options but I like the feel of sand. I have a bag of "play sand" from the hardware store. I spread some out on a baking sheet and dry it in the oven on low temp for a while. After it cools, I use a long funnel to add it to the bag. It is a pain in the butt and takes a while to get it packed in there. I usually have to add more sand several times before I'm happy with how full it is.
I love 15.5 on my service rifle so far! 25.6 grains with a berger 80.5 in lake city brass gets me 2826 fps with SD's under 10 (20" barrel). This load shot sub-half MOA at 300 yards from a sling with a 4.5x scope. Don't be afraid to crunch it!
Buy them 5-10 years before you need them. It's a foolproof strategy. I don't have some gigantic stockpile...I just don't shoot much volume. A brick goes a LONG way for me.
I’ve been seeing powders and primers at almost everywhere I go. The places I’ve seen powders at $60+ I’ve been able to talk down with some price match Nonsense to $40
Glad I asked you about 15.5 in the reloading chat & someone found it in stock. Really looking forward to the mk262 vid on this. Also, wanted to thank you. The whole mk262 series really helped not only my load development for my ARs, but gave me a lot of food for thought on my whole process. Keep doing what you do, you’re inspiring a lot of us that are relatively new to reloading. 👍🏻
Man you and me both. Iv hand loaded for pistol almost 2 decades but I love my heavy bullets in 556 and that series changed my game. Now I own 2 whiteOak barrels and I only wish they made a 13.7 or 14.5 shoot so good
Have you ever tried the Speer 52 grain flat base H.P. Not the match 52 just the regular bullet. It shoots extremely well in several of my 223's as well as a Ruger #1 in 22-250. Very reasonable price too. Just bought 10 boxes from Midway on sale for less than $10.00 a box with free shipping about a month ago. I can't even begin to express my appreciation for the enjoyment you have given in the last few years watching your channel. I think you are the "gold standard" of reloading channels.
I've got to the point I use Vihtavuori powders in everything. I've tried a bunch of others but I always come back to Vihtavuori they're extremely consistent and everything I've used is a nice short cut which is something I really wish more powder manufacturers would give us especially in powders good for cartridges like 223, 6mm ARC, or 6.5 Grendel. Great video as always keepem coming brother!!!
This is a powder that everyone in the 6 ARC community is waiting for. If it gets good velocity it will be the first temp stable powder for the 6 ARC to do so.
Good stuff as always! Looking forward to the 308 video. Thanks for all the effort you put into this, not for just the entertainment, but the quantity and quality of information.
I'm sure it would have helped a little. I don't think the difference will be dramatic like it can be in larger cases. I'll give it a shot when I do the mk 262 video.
Going from ball to extruded or vice versa, back to back without cleaning is never recommended. Additionally, your stiff bolt lift is most likely brass related and not necessarily a pressure sign for the charge weight. It can definitely be an indicator, but at only one sample you could have moved onto the next charge weight.
Really liked the video Johnny and appreciate the 22-250 data. Could the reason the middle charge in the 223 Remington went low left be to the fact that the round sat in a hot chamber for a longer than normal amount of time? Keep up the good work!
I’ve tested 15.5 with bullets up to 88 ELD in .223 jammed into the land and super compressed. In my brass, it’s physically impossible to create excessive pressure.
@@HighPriestVaticanAssasin I'd have to check the COAL since I use CBTO. My chamber is only a 0.090" freebore chamber, so it's not the longest out there. (about 30 thou longer than a WYLDE).
@@HighPriestVaticanAssasin CBTO with my Hornady comparator was 2.026. Didn't chrono but the 600y drop back calculated to 2750 in a 26" bolt rifle. This was a very mild jam in my rifle (bullet comes out of rifling easily).
@@G5Hohn so you don't think you can fit anymore in there to speed it up? I typically stay away from compressed loads if I can. Unless the 88s are going 2850-2900 the 75gr Eld is actually a hair better wind and drop wise. The 88s still have the edge on splash though.
Ive been looking for an 8# of this stuff since they released it. Its checks boxes for me: Heavy bullets in 223 Heavy bullets in 308 6mm wildcats, I have a 6 Grendel
@@JohnnysReloadingBench The original news flash I seen on Accurate Shooter showed some real promise with the testing they did. If they can get the Varget temp stability and velocity, I think they will have a serious winner. I do wish it was smaller kernels like the AR-Comp, AR 540, or 8208 XBR though.
I'm just curious what are you reloading for that the ammo is cheaper to buy then reload? I mean yes maybe if your spending 80 plus dollars on a pound of powder like stated in this video. I still with inflated prices can reload match grade and plinking ammo cheaper then I can buy it.
I want to see what happens in Gel when a 55gr GD hits it at 3600 fps. Wondering if they are tough enough to stay together. If it does, it would make for a very dead deer.
@ 10:55 ---> When working-up a load, isn't it recommended to always seat at a consistent length in order to eliminate "jump" as a variable ? Then you adjust seating depth after you've found the "node"..? 🤔
Hi Johnny! I was wondering if you’re ever going to work on the Reloader 15.5 Mk262 anymore? I’ve been rewatching your Mk262 series and really appreciate all of the work and info! Thanks!
I have tried something new for me and that is 218 bee 46 grain bullets in 223 brass. Only have one powder but would really be interested in what you could do with it.
I was hoping to find this stuff more available than it has been. I still shoot regular R-15 in Palma for the 308. Temp sensitivity is not a big issue for me as I don’t shoot that much in winter. The 15.5 propellant didn’t see much different as far as temp stable. Still good stuff tho. There will always be R15 and Varget fanboys out there
I was on the fence about buying 15.5 as I was worried it would be lackluster like the StaBall was for the 6.5s. I'll grab some now. How do you train your chickens to stay behind the firing line? Mine never listen. 😄
I just quit worrying about them. They were 30 yards downrange at one point while I was shooting. They don't seem to mind the noise whatsoever. I'd love to know how the structure of their ears is different from humans to allow them to tolerate it. Crazy animals!
In 22+ years of using RL15, I’ve never once had an issue with it appearing to be temp sensitive. Even when finding a max load in winter and again trying the same ammo in the dead heat of summer, it was basically exactly the same performance. It shows less temp swing for me than even Varget and other supposedly stable powders.
Do you mail order a lot of your powder and primers or do you have a local reloading shop other than big box stores. I have only ever seen one CFE223 and one STAball 6.5. I bought both.
I'm in the process of building a 6 ARC upper for coyotes and range fun. The manufacturer says checking headspace isn't necessary, it's going onto an Aero M4E1 upper. Should I still get a Go Gauge and make sure I don't get blown up? Also, what kind of load data would you recommend with Superformance for 85-108 gr hornady bullets
Feel like you’re screwing up that fifth shot because, one you’re getting in your own head and two, your letting that bullet just sit in the chamber and soak. It’s heating up no wonder why the point of impact shifts. Love the videos by the way.
Sorry if this has been covered before but... what accounts for the difference in velocity and SD as they show on the tracker and what you are saying the averages are?
Thanks testing out RL15.5. I had high hopes for RL15.5 as RL15 is one of my favorites for 6.5 Grendel but I read that it is bulkier than RL15 so you can't fit as many grains in the case. JRB, can you confirm this?
I hear that this stuff is good. Also head that pressure in 223 is low. But I also though at maybe it might not show pressure in 223 is because it can't burn but so much up. It's the slowest power right basically would use in 223?
I've noticed plenty of powder and bullets at newer prices. A local gun shop has 60 or so pounds of powders and a decent supply of primers. Powders are priced at $50/lb and CCI primers are $90 a brick.
What ever happened to your other 223 predator barrel. It didn't seem to do as well. Is this you og white oak barrel that you gave away or did you get another? Good to see ya bud.
This is a new 18" WOA SPR with maybe ~500 rounds on it. My old SPR barrel (1:8 mid gas) was given away to a family member. It still shoots great after A LOT of rounds through it. The predator barrel was also repurposed and given to a friend. You are right that it just didn't seem to do as well. It didn't do bad by any means, but some of my favorite bullets (like the 77s) just didn't shoot as well as they did with the SPR. Instead of learning about that Predator chamber and figuring out what it likes, I just decided to go back to an SPR.
I think it might have some usefulness with heavy bullets in the Grendel. I'll test it just because I'm curious, but I'm keeping my hopes and expectations in check for 6.5 Grendel. We'll see.
Nice find . Brother I got good score locally. Check it out I drop video 1lb of Little gun and 100 pc box of 110gr vmax and lube and primers for $123 out door. I have seen munch Alliant near me when do its super expensive.
Johnny, believe me, I don't crack a smile when you chant "Don't screw it up" because it isn't funny. that sort of pressure is a difficult self-control thing as your mind is saying "Care, but, don't care too much,, then don't care at all,,, back to don't care too much" the whole time you are disciplining trigger pressure and concentrating on the cross-hair intersection. It is tough, to say the least about it. However, I see what you were dealing with and those shots would have been in there, you were trying your best, it's all good. peace bro -Dave
