Just think about how many animals have died in that terrifying way animals including humans and all throughout the time that these kind of creatures have been around truly an awesome predator

LOL different strokes for different people I guess because swamps are terrifying to me. I would never want to be that low to the water in a single kayak
I love that you took a minute to collect yourself and then were just like "yep, don't wanna be here anymore" and paddle as fast as possible in the direction you came
I live in Wilmington, NC not too far from where this happened. There are some big alligators around here. Looks like this guy was kayaking alone. No way in hell I'd kayak alone in the back swamps and rivers around here. This fella was very lucky.
Damn and I just arrived on the OBX and was thinking this would be cool but have an oru one even slight bite from a gator I lose buoyancy. Never had a problem in Florida but maybe gators there are less aggressive due to more people I dunno but I definitely kayak alone now this got me worried that gator is faster than I could paddle for sure plus I have a 16 foot kayak

In a moment like that, a person would likely be too focused on assessing and getting out of the immediate danger situation... this is not the same as stubbing a toe.
I lived in Lake Waccamaw for a few years, on the back side, with the back of the house backed up to the creek, near the end of the road where the concrete spillway is. It's like Degobah out there. You can hear the ultrasonic mating calls of the gators and man there are plenty of them! Orb weaver spiders as big as your hand, catching birds in webs strung between trees. That place is like nature on steroids. Everything grows lush.
I was gonna complain that I couldn’t see the alligator until it showed up, but then I remembered that that’s their thing. I’m surprised by how fast he/she moved. We’ve likely all seen them bursting out of the water during ambush hunting, but seeing it speed through the water was delightful. Obviously, it wasn’t for you. You handled that really well. I can’t imagine what you must have been going through. Very glad you’re okay.

Welcome to the club of kayaking in bayou’s and swamps. Similar things have happened a couple of times to me over the years. I always rethink life for a few minutes thereafter. Strong work!
Ft Lauderdale, New River by the power plant marsh. Had a huge one surface underneath me , lifting me out of the water, spun me around 180 degrees. It was a flat bottom inflatable Seveylor kayak. The tail was as long a the kayak. I quickly paddled to the houses and seawall across the river and got out of he river. I understand that some predators will bump you first to see if you are edible.
Once the alligator attacked you can just hear the man going into fight or flight mode from his heavy breathing to when he starts paddling back like an Olympic Kayaker

Holy shit. That tremble in his hands and the heavy breathing attest to how much adrenaline was pumping through his system after the near death experience. My own heart was pounding, so I can’t imagine how it was for him
Just imagine the exact moment he fell into water and felt the coldness all over his body, not knowing if the alligator would drag him farther down or not.....
Not really because gators are non Violent most of the time if the gator was going to attack he would have the kayaker provoked the gator in a way that he did not know
@@drewski3173 I live near where this happened, its just a tributary off a much larger lake that people swim and boat in all the time and they are not attacked by killer alligators lol. You are correct that it is rare, the only reason she did this is because it was mating season and she was protecting her nest.
That alligator will tell all his buddies how he narrowly escaped with his life from a half human half kayak that came out of nowhere charged at him full speed.

I feel ya buddy! I live in Massachusetts & was doing some kayak fishing in water just like this & a beaver slapped its tail on the surface probably 40ft off my stern. Haven't been back since.

I genuinely thought that the Gator was gonna follow up as soon as he fell in. Their behavior is to usually do so after an attack, thank goodness he’s alive.
The man is likely near an alligators nest and the mother was just giving warning to the kayak dude. Also alligator mothers dont hunt near their nest as the smell can attract other bigger alligators to her nest and eat her babies
@@erensfeet5563 it isn't about hunting. Any defensive attacks by that alligator COULD kill that guy. She wouldn't LIKE to, but, at the end of the day, it's defending it's nest and WILL to the DEATH. The ONLY reason this guy is alive is because he got caught on those branches and didn't stay under. He was about to be turned into gator poop had those branches not been there.

I’m a big time, serious paddler down here in Florida and I use a beat up Jon boat. I don’t care if it’s a little tougher paddling. I like not being an inch from the water and not tipping over lol! I found this video looking for something else. Thanks for sharing it.
@@misguidedangel6550 Gross? Swamps are some of the most beautiful, pristine, untouched places on earth. Moreover, alligators are very calm tempered animals and very much prefer to stay away from humans unless you encroach a mama’s nest during hatching season.
@@deantreloarNow I'm talking about kayaking in, I find swamps gross. Stale water its filled with bacteria and the water smells, now sure i agree looking at them in a nature water, yes they are beautiful but they aren't for humans to be kayaking and swimming in, just my opinion but I blessed to be from BC where we have nothing but fresh water mountain lakes and glacier fed rivers.
I spent a week canoeing the Okefenokee Swamp on the FL/GA border. There are a lot more alligators there than in a comparable swamp in NC. You see them everywhere. None of them ever bothered me.
