Some years ago at Silver Springs (when it was still a tourist attraction) I kept thinking they had construction going on somewhere in the park, but it was just the gators! We went to Gatorland in the same trip and the bellows vibrated the entire boardwalk under our feet. Amazing to witness. I hope I catch it at the right time of year again sometime.

I grew up in Central Florida. There are two gators in any body of water you can lay down in. This video does not do the sounds they make any justice. You can FEEL these bellowing grunts. FEEL IT in your pant legs and the air gaps in your shirt. It's inside your head. The bigger the gator, the more you FEEL it.

One night, I was fixing to sneak into a gator sanctuary. The back gate was pried open (indicating that other people had done this sneak job before). I was just in it for the thrill. I stayed at that gate, though, for about two minutes. The whole time I was there I was hearing all of the gators making these growling noises. Needless to say, the thrill wasn't enough to get me to continue into the source of those sounds.
