Hi, You said, Shuttle shift without clutch? Is that power shift or how does that work? There is one for sale by me. It's a loader backhoe. I ask because it says available in shuttle shift and power director. On the HD3 it offers 7-18" tracks. Can it be converted just by track pads or did the 18" have a bigger trap setup? You have tons of power with that. Where are you located in those thick woods? Thank You

I may not be using the correct terminology, But I believe this is called shuttle shift/clutch? You have the hand clutch lever that once you put it in gear with the foot clutch you can shift from forward travel to reverse travel all with the hand clutch lever, no foot clutch to change from forward to reverse gear needed. Hope that makes sense. really handy on a crawler dozer where you are going back and forth all the time pushing dirt or show or whatever. I don't know about the track options. This video is back in WI.

Does the track tensioner still work? Mine is froze stiff.

We had to work quite hard to get them freed up when we got this machine, as the track tension adjustment screws were stuck. Big pipe wrenches, heat, and long cheater pipes were used, LOL! Ended up taking the entire adjusting assembly apart and cleaning everything up before putting it back together. We would love to rebuild the undercarriage on this H3 as it is all quite worn, but parts are not available to my knowledge.

It's possible that the parts you need are available. Manufacturers usually don't make separate parts for all their models. It's much cheaper to use as many interchangeable parts as possible across the line. You especially see this with the automakers. A friendly person at ye olde parts counter would be a huge help, but you can do it yourself. Cross-reference your part numbers with other similar machines. No guarantees of course, but you never know. A machine shop could do it, but it would probably cost as much as you paid for the whole machine. Anyway, it's great to see folks keeping the old stuff alive!

Hey I have a HD3 of my own that I can’t seem to get to start. It only has wires from the battery to the starter and the alternator so I am confused as to why an old Diesel engine like this won’t start. I have compression and fuel and can feel it suck my hand in on the intake manifold and see the fuel smoke out of the exhaust but it simply won’t catch and run. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Good question Mark, I'm not sure. Dad's is a H3 so a gas engine just like in a D15 Allis, so I'm not really familiar with the Diesel HD3's. Did it run before, or is this a new acquisition that you are trying to get running? Maybe someone with more diesel knowledge can chime in here, as I don't know much at all about diesels unfortunately.

Try starting it using starting fluid. If it starts then dies or kinda runs and won't really get off the starter, you have a fuel issue. Start by swapping out the fuel filters. It doesn't take much water to skin over a filter. Then check the lift/primer pump. Check n see that it's pumping enough fuel and not any air. And check that the injector pump kill linkage is free n has full movement. Just some ideas for you.
