Never seen a video about flowers like this one. Its like watching a bbc documentery. If you plant the right aliums you will enjoy a summer long with pretty aliums
Great video. Very inspiring. This autumn I am planting many different types of alliums. I can't wait for next spring/summer to arrive to see the results.
Came back to watch this video for a second time.I am so fascinated by the Alliums and can't wait for mine to start growing in my garden. You mentioned having blooms from May to September but mine state they are early Spring bloomers and fade before summer. I live in an are where we have very moderate winter climate but very hot summers.I hope mine do as well as yours. This is a beautiful video!! Thanks so much for sharing it!
I've watched many of your videos. You certainly have an artistic eye. Your alliums complement the garden you have designed to bring out the best in it. I enjoyed you narrative tour.
I have just recently discovered Alliums and decided I must have them inn my garden! I have ordered both seeds and bulbs of the Giganteum Globemasters, the Christophi' and the Fireworks Alliums.I am planting Veronica Longifolia with them,Haven't decided what kind of groundcover to use yet..Loved your video, can't wait for my bulbs and seeds to arrive.Thank you for sharing.
Hi Judy, I’m so pleased you enjoyed the video! Because our growing season is so short in Norway, Allium cristophii can flower in late August and by September time their seed heads as well as those of the earlier A. hollandicum 'Purple Sensation' and A. giganteum still make a great structural impact in late summer/autumn borders. Sadly, last winter was particularly severe here and it seems I’ve lost many of the A. cristophii and A. caeruleum. Good luck with your Alliums!
Great video!! Went on a bit of an Allium planting spree this weekend given the end of season sales. Allium Gladiator, Mount Everest, Christophii & Nigrum over 90 bulbs in total. Fingers crossed they cope with December planting! Do they all give 1 stem per bulb?
Live in Ireland and bought a christofii today in full bloom should I leave it in the pot til it goes over or plant it now ? I really enjoyed the video and use your under planting tips thank you !
jackie tyrrell Hi Jackie, Since it's container grown you can probably plant it any time you like. Make sure the soil is well drained though and give it a feed. Good Luck!
Your video is really useful, bec I am living in Oslo. Wonder if It’s suitable for balkong with morning sun? What kind of alliums can you recommend? How deep is best with a pot?
Hi Tina, I really don’t know. They are perennial here in a cool temperate climate as long as drainage is sufficient, but your conditions will be very different. A quick Google tells me Alliums will grow in zones 2-9. Perhaps try a few and see how they do? Good luck!
Ah well Norway is very far north and spring is much later than further south in Europe. Flowering times will always vary depending on the weather and the climate.
