Do you eat rice, chicken, eggs, meat, protein food along with that? At what amount do you take them? Do you face any side effects with your kidneys, liver?? Do you drink milk, coffee?? I wish my doctor gave me this explanation of the drug during my appointment. With my extra flare ups I decided to up my dosage to 300mg a day instead of 100mg. Thanks for the lesson of allopurinol wellnowdoctor.
@@tommyharris5817 Great. During my last flare up I tried 300mg for 3 days, then back to 100mg everyday. I have plenty of pills left but since I have not had any flare ups in a long while now, I want see if I can go without any doses. I am just glad that I have a solution if any future flare ups occur. :)
@@tommyharris5817 I do not know of any. I try and stay away from seafood, mushrooms and red meat but its hard to do this when I love eating it. I did try drinking a lot of cherry juice in the beginning but it tastes like wine and I could not stomach it for very long. Eating cherries is a good idea but you can only eat them when in season.
@@Fresjr66 "it's hard to do this when I love eating it" lol. I'm going on my first course of allopurinol soon and hopefully will regain my quality of life that keeps getting distracted many times a year. Wish you a pain-free and healthy life.
My brother has gout attacks twice a year ... but insists upon consuming 1/3 cup of brewer's yeast for its nutritional value. He has been doing this each morning for 20 years. At 82 years old he does have mobility problems and I have told him that my research indicates that the yeast may be a prime contributor for his joint issues and possibly even his sciatica. He indicates that a steak and a beer will cause an attack ... but I am telling him that it is his daily yeast consumption, not the meal, that is the cause. As a doctor what would you tell him?
When I take you allopurinol and slowly increase the dose from 50 mg every 3 or 4 weeks. By the time I was on 200 mg for 3 weeks, I almost needed to be committed to an insane asylum. I was having all sorts of symptoms of questionable liver and kidney function. My bilirubin levels jumped up from 1.2 to 1.9 on 200mg. And EGFR deopped from 108 down to 72 on 200mg. The brain fog's been really bad. I'm so glad I stopped this. The doctor wanted me to wait 2 weeks to retest my blood but after 4 days of not being on it I feel so much better, I don't feel like I'm dying anymore, no other way to explain it. I thought I would share my comment with you. I know my experience is not typical, I don't think? I have a call into my doctor to get a referral to a liver and kidney specialist just to make sure everything is okay with me. It's just real alarming watching these numbers do bad things and feel like I'm dying. Just horrible feelings. No energy, losing mental cognition as the dose increases. my uric acid levels were going down, But now they will be going back up. In one week and 2 weeks I get to retest labs to see if everything corrects
Allopurinol block xantine oksidase, enzim that makes uric acid from chemical that comes from purine formation. And all that was not becoming uric acid just go throw urine.
My Dr had me take 2 Colchricine and then begin taking Allopurinal 100 mg daily after that.I take Lisinopril 10 mg for high blood pressure. I started that in the Spring. I had read about possible interaction and asked about this but she said she has many patients who take both the Alloprurinol and Lisinopril . This still concerns me. Should I be aware of any interactions this may cause? My UA level is 9.3 and my kidney function was down a few points. I get retested in 2 months.Thanks for any help. Very much enjoyed your video.
I just got rashes on my bilateral lower/upper extremities + upper chest area. I’ve been taking allopurinol since 06/04/19 and present date is 06/28/19. New onset of rashes without excessive coughing, dysnea, or fever. Just the rashes and itching. Should I stop taking the allopurinol?
@@pram9832 I have not taken Allopurinol. I used to get gout every year, but since drinking more water and ensuring I am hydrated by the color of my urine, I have not had further gout attacks. Only time will tell, but so far so good.
@@pram9832 i started with 50 grams and went up to 100 and will soon go to 200. I don’t drink alcohol or eat shellfish or red meats anymore. The main thing i don’t like about allopurinol is it is exercise adverse. I usually have no motivation to workout while taking it. Ideally, I will only take it until my foot swelling is down and the crystals have broken down.
