Allotment Update Mid May 2024, Allotment Diary, Allotment Gardening
This is essentially a series of video diaries showing the development of my allotment plot.
The plot size is 16.1metres long and 12.1 metres wide. I took the decision, based upon my previous allotment experience, to create raised beds throughout the whole site. The larger beds are 6 metres in length with the smaller beds being 3.6 metres in length. All beds being 1.2 metres wide.
The allotment has been created on old grazing land where the soil is mainly clay, so doesn't drain well in winter and then shrinks and cracks in summer. Clay does retain nutrients well so with some work it can become great.
I take an honest and pragmatic view on the successes and failures of the crop that I am trying to grow.

extra work, but if you remove tarps and mulches, stuff probebly dry upp quicker and i cant see it wil hurt on your slugg isue etiher:) if you step on a dandilion plant and crush it alittel, it il draw slugs in the evening, put a plank or som plastikk over the crused plant, and you have a trap to check in the morning, for some revenge;) i gess if you crush some dandilions and put them in the raised bed, wil also atrack slugs, but i havent tested it, my aproch is half an our in the evening with a old knife and a torch\use the ligths on my telefone

Hi Jan. thanks for watching and the message and suggestions. I put the fabric down on my plot to reduce the constant need to weed and cut down the grass, which it definitely does do but it probably does also slow the drying of the site. I’m thinking of using the strimmer around the borders of my plot to reduce the height of the grass to make the area less desirable for slugs. I’m also going to add a hedgehog box and food to see if I can entice the local hog to my plot 🤞 All the best with your growing 🌽🌻
