As someone who was brought up by a well-meaning atheist, this is the very best example of how I was taught to view organized religion. I especially appreciate the beginning statements about how Christ and His church, lead us to build and create, whereas the doctrine of Satan is one that goes nowhere, has no light and leads people to their own destruction. That's what I saw in my father's life. This brilliant talented man was on a perpetual journey to self-destruction. My brother and I escaped that path by joining the LDS Church and were able to build our families, whom we love and watch in awe at their contributions in life. It took time. It took effort and still takes effort, but it is so full of light, love and esteem for all God's beauties and spiritual gifts. Korihor is a wonderful reminder of what we gain by living the gospel and what we lose when we listen to the adversaries' cunning and deceitful ploys.

I have a family member who had it all, a mission, married in the temple, etc, and then left the church. He said he has never been happier. He can eat drink and be merry. He is a wonderful person in many ways. Alcohol, for example, destroyed my uncle. Because this family member is able to control it, he can't see the destruction of it down the road with his family. You never know who won't be able to handle it and become an alcoholic. I know that if you don't nourish gospel daily with the scriptures and gospel teachings, Satan can slowly lure you away. Anything that builds and makes a family stronger is of God. I love my Savior and our Father in Heaven. I have had spiritual connections with them and have learned so much wisdom from their teachings and guidance.

The first time I read the Book of Mormon all the way through as a convert this chapter was my favorite. In fact Alma’s response to Korihor saying “all things denote there is a God” is my favorite scripture. So it’s interesting to hear that this chapter would be disheartening. It was the opposite to me. It brought me a sense of peace to know that saints went through what we are dealing with today with anti Christ’s rhetoric and lies. I love Alma.

I am reminded of President Nelson's counsel to 'pray for the spirit of discernment ' Alma knew, through the spirit of discernment that KORIHOR , was not going to ' change, but that he (Korihor) would continue to go on doing the same thing, 'deceiving the people'

Korihor He cannot know that to write his own name Large upon the sky, to stare down the humble eye, Sneer his reason between teeth and tongue, To fill the square with his dance and confidence, To plow up doubt, Plant hard winter hearts to feed the basket of defeat. To fill the air full of glittering noise Until....served up the divine cup of dumbcane Silence Knowing what he knew, turning away To bring his knee upon the ground And his confession into the begging bowl And a hundred feet take no heed, To this pebble in the road ‘til he can know without doubt No angel keeps The unrepentant devil’s child.

@ 27:00 He speaks of Korihor using the devil's tactics to bind people down but says Korihor is imposing that people following the gospel are bound down. Often when people speak, they're actually speaking of themselves, and I find it so interesting that he's saying that others are bound down when he himself is getting bound down by the devil. When people are telling you all sorts of things about you, they are actually telling you all sorts of things about themselves! Is it really about you? People think they're directing what they are saying towards you, and that you're listening, and you may be listening, but maybe not in the way they thought you were listening, you may just be listening to them and seeing that they are struggling with the very things they think you are struggling with in your life, and really they are what they say you are acting like. That's all, this is filled with so many juicy bits of wisdom, I love it!

I think it’s interesting that Korihor sad he didn’t believe there was a God, he took counsel from an “angel.”

I really appreciate your teaching, Tyler! It gives me much. May I add that Korihor is transferring the responsibility to believe to Alma. He is freeing himself from accountability for his actions. A typical sign of his devilish personality traits. His heart is totally hardened. That is why there was no hope that he ever would repent. Alma himself was given the chance to repent, because there was hope that he would be willing to repent when he was shown the truth. But Korihor not.

Thank you for your teaching and recommendations when teaching youth. Recently I was called to be a teacher in Sunday school for the youth in our branch. I wished I had watched your video in preparing my lesson, as I really enjoyed your object lesson using the dominoes. I know my students would have enjoyed that visual aid and message. Also I was wondering where did you get the map of Zarahemla and outlining cities? It is on the screen in the background of the video timestamp 54:59. Thank you for your help.

I really like your class, I have had a question, anti-nephi-lehi and Antichrist, what does it mean, if these words appear at the same time as the converted lamanites and korihor. Anti does not mean the same in both terms 🌞

I'm not sure exactly why we keep teaching that remission of sins and forgiveness of sins is the same thing. Baptized members of the church look forward to a remission of their sins (Alma 30:16), because they are seeking the baptism of fire and the holy ghost, according to the doctrine of Christ (2 Nephi 31:17). The ONLY way to get a remission of your sins is through the baptism of fire. This is a basic doctrine of the church explained in the scriptures, and one that all members should understand...

Brother Griffin. I enjoy listening to your video lessons, you bring a refreshing style and spirit to your teaching. However, you quoted the Lectures on Faith in todays lesson suggesting that Joseph Smith said: “A religion that does not require the sacrifice of all things,” a frequently quoted line reads, “never has power sufficient to produce the faith necessary unto life and salvation.” You might want to do a little more research into the Lectures on Faith. Several respected scholars have determined that the Lectures on Faith were authored by Sidney Rigdon and not by Joseph Smith. and contain doctrinal errors. Importantly, the Lectures on Faith were removed from the Doctrine and Covenants in 1921 by Church leadership.

There is joy in sacrificing worldly notions to receive blessings from heaven. When I am tempted to think this way, I remember that the savior was a man, a human, who laughed, cried, smiled, and felt pain just as we do today, and if he was able to do that willingly, so can we. Everything in this world is hard. The consequences of our actions are hard. The beauty of the gospel and of our human nature is that we can choose our hard. We can choose to suffer to receive the good or suffer pain and affliction for eternity. i hope this was able to give you some perspective brother, know you are loved.

hey friend, can I suggest you read 2 Nephi 4:17-35. This chapter is a prayer from Nephi to the lord, saying how grateful he is to have him as his joy and that his soul is safe and comforted because of his mercy and love.

We can’t do it without Christ. We need his enabling power to keep the commandments. When starting a new skill you learn it step by step. When you were a baby walking was to hard, but you gained strength trough effort that eventually led you to be able to walk with ease. The nature of walking hasn’t changed. Your capacity changed. If you continue to strive to keep God commandments wrestling against your weaknesses you will eventually get stronger until you can keep more of Gods commandments. You have to have your spiritual exercises on a daily basis through holy habits. Scripture study, prayer, church, words of the modern prophets. Intense exercise is where you get gains. With spiritual matters you’ll have to be intentional in digging deeper and understanding the prophecy after the manner of the Jews, etc. physical and spiritual atrophy happens when we stop our exercising our physical and spiritual muscles. What you consume is also important in getting in better shape. There are some things you also need to sacrifice and throw them out of your diet if you want to be healthy.
