One day at school one of my friends said to me “There are no living classical composers today.” I responded with “Alma Deutscher” He then replied “that’s not a real classical composer.” To this day I don’t know what was going through his mind, and I don’t even know if he had even ever heard the name or listened to her beautiful music before. I don’t know why but whenever a non musician trashes classical music with something stupid, like saying nobody listens to it anymore, they persist to say that they’re right even provided with proof. I honestly feel bad for these people because they don’t put in the effort into trying to enjoy the beauty of classical music and geniuses like Alma Deutscher.

This is my first time listening to a classical composer that is still alive and I’m am really amazed at what I see. I was thinking it would sound very sweet, like Elgar or Britten, or energetic like Kabalevsky, but I’m really shock to hear influences from Bach as well as a little Romantic influence(it definitely doesn’t sound classical period to me).

Let's never mind the fact that this girl is going to be in the history books some day for just a moment. I need to say: Walking on stage in that dress, Alma OWNS it immediately. She looks so sophisticated and yet playful. She is so special. I wish that all parents who have gifted children would follow her parents lead. They have provided a genuine, normal childhood for her and it shows.
@jonathanday6692
@jonathanday6692 4 года назад
I'm hesitant by the word "normal". Too often, what is normal is unhealthy, domineering and cruel. Alma seems to have been in a healthy, well-balanced, nurturing environment. Neither cloying nor destroying. It's what should be normal. When you consider 50% of mental ability is environmental, only 59% is genetic, then you realize just how healthy her childhood was and is. But you also realize how inhibited many folk are. They'd never reach Alma's level, but they could be so much better than they are.

I am bewitched; astounded; changed forever. If you have not heard the name Alma Deutscher, remember that in 100 years she will be among the musical monoliths of our time and all will know the name Deutscher. At 11, having already composed of full-length opera, a piano and violin Concerto, and many other brilliant works of music. We are witnessing history in the making. A prodigious talent such as this comes along once a century if we are lucky, and she has only 65K subscribers?!?! Less than some beauty gurus?!?! Shameful! How have I not heard of her until just a few days ago. I have no words...words fail. At a time plagued by ugliness, hopelessness, and so much cynicism, I have to believe that "God," the universe, or whatever greater power there may be, smiles on us. myexitolaboral , and others. I don’t live in the UK and those issues are not what I was talking about. I can’t help but believe that every time Alma performs, someone is recording it. What I wish is that something like Medici or VEVO had access to those recording and could share them sooner (this recording is a year old already) and more often. I don’t know what the strategy is, and whether it concerns monetizing her performances, or if there is some other reason. I just would like to be able to enjoy her talent. As for Alma just being able to enjoy being a kid, I think you need to go back and watch her from the beginning. She clearly enjoys what she is doing, and it is to her parents credit that they have worked hard to let her be who she is, and any way you look at it she is not average, and to not acknowledge that would be a travesty to her talent and her spoken desires.

I strongly believe - as has been said by others too - that it's possible to understand Alma's music by not only watching her hands, but also by watching her face, as her expressions somehow tell more about her compositions than those of many other violinists or pianists. One certainly gets the impression that when she plays, Alma is doing far more than concentrate on playing the right notes, and judging by the sheer joy on her face when she plays, those patterns you mention must be mightily beautiful.

Well, first of all, Alma, like a lot of musical whizzes, including Mozart, has clearly got "perfect pitch" which is something very few humans have (it has been guesstimated 0.01%) and is a different kind of audio perception. Some of them, e.g. allegedly Richard Wagner (I have no idea whether Alma is one of them) have had "synesthesia" which is even weirder. It is somewhat puzzling how somebody with different audio perception, can write music that sounds good to the rest of us. I think that (and, e.g. deaf Beethoven still writing good music) proves it is not about the perception, it is about universal mental musical principles. When she talks, she sounds a bit oddly prissy and precise, which might be related to her perfect pitch, or might merely be somehow related to her being tri-lingual. Far as I can tell, she's got the same level of talent as Mozart, plus has the advantages of living in the modern era, so she ought to be able to rise to greater levels.

Masters like this are actually born very often. Sadly, in 99 percent of cases kids never had a chance to grow into such a pro... All ingredients for such an extraordinary outcome have to be nurtured since the earliest childhood. It's mainly for parents, and their direct parental supervision, plus immediate positive environment, that produce such result. Very often parents of such kids are musicians themselves, or they are intellectuals in other areas to a very high degree and standards. If they are not professional musicians themselves, than such talent must be recognized by a local teacher-Master, that nurtures such kid into what Alma became. Combination of elements... And of course ; no video games 🙂

When I listened to this for the second time (many months ago now) I was struck by how one particular slow passage in the first movement reminded me strongly of a similar passage in one of the many other violin works of which I have recordings. But I couldn't decide which recording it was. Over the succeeding weeks, I played those other works, searching for the similar passage. And couldn't find it ! Eventually, I was forced to conclude that the memory Alma's work had evoked, on that second listening, was of my FIRST hearing of her concerto. Which raised two interesting thoughts. First, that Alma's music had already seeped into my brain, subliminally, and secondly, that I felt it completely natural to place Alma's music on a par with 'classical' composers of the past. Something I am very happy to continue to do.

Alma's composition is such a pleasure to listen to. As a violinist myself I'm blown away by her own virtuosity. Her impeccable technique, articulation, and dynamics. She makes her violin sing with a beautiful Yiddish soul fulness. I also love the motif nods to other classical composers. Her style of playing at times reminds me of Heifetz, Menuhin, and Perlman.

As a Jew who sings in a synagogue choir, I'm right there with you on the Yiddishkeit. She probably gets it from her father's side of the family and has also spent plenty of time in Israel possibly hearing popular songs that subconsciously have imported the Ashkenazi soul.

April 14, 2023 is the day I found out who Alma Deutscher is. I happened across a TikTok video someone posted of her when she was really young and I was impressed enough that I decided to do a google search to see what was known about her. MY. MIND. IS. BLOWN. It's absolutely remarkable and so heartening to know that such talent is still walking around on our planet among a generation that values fake dancing on short-form videos for clout. One of the real touchstones of how genuine is her genius is that she also excels in the slow movements. Typical children, meaning even muscially gifted kids, just don't get into the slow movements; they're "boring". Not so with this off-the-chart prodigy: in both this concerto, and her piano concerto, the middle movements are nothing short of masterpieces.

A huge talent in “the olden style, like Resphigi, Prokofiev and many others of that ilk. A consummate platform, And a rather warm mature style of playing, with very little to criticise especially for her age. She may not end up playing in the concert repertoire and trekking round the world like a slave, but she will play her concertos and chamber music to enthralled audiences in a different manner from the rather tired soloists were used to. extraordinary focus while at the same time entertaining the audience the orchestra and conductor, she stands out from the crowd at her extraordinary young age. GO GIRL !

Acute observation, "She may not end up playing in the concert repertoire and trekking round the world like a slave, but she will play her concertos and chamber music to enthralled audiences in a different manner from the rather tired soloists we're used to." I think it's stronger than that. The concert soloists are masters of their instuments, they play the music expertly. Deutscher is the other way round, the music plays her.
