I looked into the new Tolkien Book The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien Revised and Expanded Edition and give you my first impressions of it. It contains over 150 new letters (and in some cases the full version of some previously only in parts published letters). Most of the new letters are very interesting for biographical details and details regarding the publication of his books.
It's the new definitive version of the The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien.

This is amazing! Every little bit of information regarding Tolkien's works is priceless and not even the good adaptations can match in any way this level of complexity Tolkien's oeuvre is just as vast as insane

Yes. The tremendous complexity makes it often very difficult to adapt. And many adaptions also fail there.

The numbering system is how we number houses in the UK. For example, if a house is built between 8 and 9 Main Road, it'll often be called 8A Main Road

Yes too long to be honest. Sorry for that and thank you to you as well for still supporting me. But ofc if there is a new Tolkien book with unpublished new Tolkien writings, I ofc have to make a video about it. I plan though to make more content again for this channel as well, but this year was very video games focused for me and I made some good progress on the other channel. Currently I'm a bit stuck on a difficult video about modding how cars handle in Cyberpunk 2077 😅

Sadly Humphrey Carpenter died in 2005, and Christopher Tolkien in 2020. Going on the foreword to the new edition, it is actually a restoration of Humphrey's original work which was cut for length. It sounds worthwhile as far as it goes, but perhaps the current editors were remiss in not including the further material which you mention -- perhaps it was unknown in 1980

Yes, still quite impressive and unfortunate that they had to cut so many pages and letters out of the original release. Now we have it in its full glory. Though I wish they would have added some more of Tolkien's unpublished letters 😅

Yes long time no see, unfortunately. haha yes it's a very long letter 😂 But I found it very interesting. Esp. the new additions. Maybe skip to what is new. Last 9 pages and you could skip everything listed under "[The following list of items, making up the ‘Tales of the Three Ages’, was attached to this letter.]" which are also 3 pages. So 6 pages of LotR summary starts with "The Lord of the Rings opens on the same scene as The Hobbit: some sixty years later." I hope you and your family are doing well.

I heard that Tolkien removed tomatoes and replaced them with pickles in the stories, for historical reasons. Sounds a bit silly, but is it true? And, is it mentioned in a letter?

As we found out in the stream it's true that Tolkien changed the line "and just bring out the cold chicken and tomatoes" to "And just bring out the cold chicken and pickles!" in the 1966 version of the Hobbit. E.g. in my First Edition (1937) reprint of The Hobbit it reads "tomatoes" instead of pickles. In the first Hobbit chapter (An Unexpected Journey), Tolkien changed quite a few anachronisms, except for "tobacco" ("He had brought a lot of pocket handkerchiefs, and Bilbo’s pipe and tobacco."). In LotR's first chapter we also still find the express train. Thank your for the question, was fun to look into it.
