I now understand why our mountain rescues in the alps always complain that the workload increases extremely because of tourists who go on trails they shouldn’t.
Love your videos, but your hiking prep sucks. Hydration (lacking), proper foot wear (sandals!), inventory of your things (lens) ...... Be more careful and don't become another stat. Not trolling, just pointing out the obvious.
Yea, this is why so many people die in the mountains every year. Sometimes, when I go on a mountain trip, there are people crossing my path in freaking flip flops. Im not surprised by the death rates anymore at all.
Can’t agree with you any more. So irresponsible. I was in Dolomites and most hikers especially the local ones were well prepared. Nothing went wrong not because these foolhardy people were good hikers… it’s just because they’re lucky.
A Swiss friend of mine(70 Years old) reached the Killimandsharo with his team and there was an African Native bare-feet in shorts who had climbed up there....same when he was in Nepal his porters were bare feet in the snow...also in the Alps you always find water, but you have to know what you can drink and what you can.t because of E-Coli..and there was an Alpwirtschaft where for the worst you could even stay the night..lol
Sun Corona flip flops on a mountainside didn’t look dangerous to you, 1. I didn’t say it was dangerous 2. I was making a light hearted observation. The dynamic duo are travelling constantly and can’t afford the luxury of footwear for every occasion but more sensible footwear would have been safer, something with a bit of grip and protection like trainers. A stubbed toe could result in a tragic accident on those parapets. I’m not their guardian angel and what I think is irrelevant.
Sun Corona 5:15 Not dangerous a cliff that was thinner then a foot, edge crumbling where a slip could seriously injure if not kill you. Let’s see you walk the route since it’s not dangerous
please don‘t ever do this again unless with the right equipment!!! This is not a fun instagrammable part of nature... the Dolomites - as beautiful as they may seem - are VERY dangerous. wrong footwear and an insufficient amount of water are a catastrophic combination. please take hiking in the dolomites seriously!!! there‘s nice beginner routes - finding out where, is one google search away. i am low-key speechless at your naiveté. please be careful in the future 🙂
please be careful you guys, going back like that could have had tragic consequences especially since you weren't hydrated. i know the lens was valuable, but your life is priceless.
There is a thing called Hiking sandals. I wore them and hiked to Lac Blanc once, it was perfect, besides the grind getting between the toes. But they are definitely wearing hiking sandals. Still pretty scary because they underestimated the ridges
I live in Veneto, the only thing I can say from this video is: NEVER go hiking in those conditions, it's ok to be a tourist but always make sure to respect the places you go, going hiking with sandals is really dangerous and un respectful for the rescues.
Dolomites is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to. It is So gorgeous and It is heaven for adventure lovers. You can go hiking, mountain biking and having lots of tasty food
You should always treat the mountains with respect. Wear appropriate shoes, carry water, food and waterproofs, know your limits and bail if necessary. Hiking in sandals in the Dolomites is dangerous, not only because of the brittleness of the terrain, but also because of vipers. You are giving a bad example to your viewers.
If anyone knows to treat the mountains with respect it's them. They trekked to Mt. Everest Base Camp. Which was 11 days. I don't think they knew it was gonna be this intense. And they're hiking sandals. Just because they didn't wear different shoes they're a bad example now? That's absolutely ridiculous.
@@sweetpjeb23 Don't know shit about the mountain you are going to hike on is disrespectful of the mountain. Don't know exactly Himalaya but I do know dolomites to some extent. In summer hiking in late afternoon/first evening is dangerous mountains storms can get you out of nowhere. Hiking alone pff classic way people die in dolomites, including experts. In Italy it is not rare to find snakes on the trail or maybe the snake finds you. With those "shoes" not good combo. These guys to me seem not idiots however this video is really a bad example on how you should visit our mountains.
@@sweetpjeb23 Sure, very visible: not having studied a map in advance, no knowing the terrain, wearing sandals, having few water, no food. Yeah. That's how to bring mountain respect. Sure.
@@sweetpjeb23 our mountains are flooded with people like these, so much so that in the dolomites they are evaluating to limit the amount of people allowed to go hiking, and the result is a higher death rate than it should be
@@Sardiatae I don't think these two are hippies. Both are TN grads, Trump-supporting, w/ evangelical missionary backgrounds. I am also thinking Nate's dad is either high up in corporate mining/fracking or industrial farming.
"We thought it was switzerland " the Mountains in switzerland are "dark" italy has the best mountains. Americans please stop using your stereotypes that do not work at all. Study geography
Andrea, please stop making 331,000,000 other people somehow accountable for the things you saw two people say. Understand that you look very stupid when you blame 331 million people because you don't like what 2 people did. Study math and biology, to understand that 2 people isn't 331 Million people.
You went there with SANDALS!!!!!! come on guys you needed hiking boots :) It could be dangerous. I am glad you did it without any incident :) Stay safe
INSANE! I can't believe you all did that cliffhanger walk!!! And in sandles? You sure go the crazy distance for your channel 😬😬 Please don't do this again, we enjoy your travels too much to risk loosing someone. Who climbs mountains in sandles? Talk about great storytelling :) One of your crazier episodes for sure. Best, James and Kim
@@cjwhite7801 I've done some training with mountain rescue here in the UK and most people who get themselves in sad situations only thought they'll just go on a little easy hike and therefore don't need to take proper equipment with them
I had to turn this off at 5:58. :( As a lot of other people already said, you guys are damn lucky you didn't become a 'look at what these people did' footnote at the end of the 11pm news. Hiking in sandals, without hydration, on a 4" ledge on a cliffside?! Thought you were both smarter than that. :(
who was silly enough to wear sandals on a mountain hike???? you could have had serious foot injuries or slid down the face of one of the mountains. There are better ways to test your luck.
New tradition before you do a long hike back or long anything... Stuff check! Do we have all bags, attachments etc? Yes! Let's Go! Glad you found it, glad you got carbs, safe travels
"Can't believe this is Italy" I found it a little bit offensive: everyone knows Cortina d'Ampezzo is in Italy, Three Peaks are in Italy too, great part of the Dolomites, too. Italian Alps are as good as the Swiss ones.
@@giacomo6017 Yes i know ma non sono asdolutamente paragonabili per bellezza ai gruppi montuosi dolomitici presenti sul territorio italiano. Inoltre la stragrande maggioranza di questi sono patrimonio Unesco
I haven't actually watched this vid yet, but I've been concerned about your level of prep for some of your previous outdoor adventures, in terms of footwear, waterproofs, navigation, planning, etc. Stay safe!
They could have put other people at risk: the volunteers that work to rescue people like these. Tragedies on the Alps happen for much less than this. I’m sorry to be so rough, I am a fellow youtuber so this is surely not a hate comment, but if you really wanted to put this video out, you should have done it in a different way that shows how stupid and dangerous the decisions you made were.
@@WhatashameMaryJane - Agree. I have friends in Croatia who risk their life every day saving people like these. And you have a point. They could edit the video in educational tone and say "we could die, please be carefull",. But no - they act so cool about it like "it's no big deal". Extremely reckless.
Enra Mummi they are, and that’s probably why they wore those shoes! Do you think they lug huge hiking boots in a bag across the world? Chacos are much more practical.
LOL, I thought of this when I literally just read that there is going to be a nude trail race in the mountains of Idaho next month. Now how safe can THAT be? Hey, Kara and Nate, going to Idaho anytime soon?
It's known that alps passes trough italy, even more the apennines ; Why people are surprised that in Italy there's a lot of mountains? Italy it's not only sea and little towns.
the classic familiar images of Italy are mediterranean landscapes, very dirty cities like Naples, Rome and Venice, ugly houses and third world scenes; the Alps are in total contrast: beautiful houses, boreal forests and the towns of the dolomites are among the most beautiful and cared for on the planet.
@@NeoMartin0987-v7m I perfectly know why people are surprised, but surely not for this "contrast" you're talking about. The stereotypical images are not bad, but are just settled too much, that's why people are surprised to see something different to the old towns and the cute countryside (never expecting a lot of adventurous stuff) , but that's not necessarily mean that what you see out the alps is ugly and old or "in contrast". I mean, people should expect to find Dolomites and more (in the south for example, there are beautiful gorges and dry lands). The mediterranean biome, the volcanoes and the medieval towns complete the picture. I also can't understand your bad words for major cities like Roma, Napoli and Venezia (for sure they are not perfect, but you are rushing, in my opinion). Have a nice day
Cannot wait to go back to the Dolomites. Definitely the right choice to go on a new adventure! Italy is seriously one of my (Rhett) favorite countries! Incredible scenery! And yes it is pretty close to Switzerland 🇨🇭 Thanks for the sweaty palms and feet! That was nerve-wrecking!
Madam Mikmak in a general regional geographic sense, they are extremely close to each other. The fact that international borders now separates the areas takes nothing away from the fact that the area has the same geological makeup (limestone and dolomite) and fall under the parent range, the Eastern Alps (the same mountain belt) that runs through Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Slovenia, Lichtenstein and Germany. Hence why it looks similar and is “pretty” close to Switzerland 🇨🇭
We are happy to see that we are not the only photographers/videographers who have left an important piece of equipment behind. We understand the stress😳but glad it all worked out despite the extra hike for Nate!
Whew! Once again your guardian angel was looking out for you! Kudos to Nate for not totally losing it and having a hissy fit! You never cease to amaze me with your positivity! As always, take care and God Bless you! Happy Travels! ♥️🙏🏞
Why are they always in a hurry in their videos? Watching Kara and Nate's videos lately have been stressful to watch. They don't have to fly back to the u.s. for work in a few days. So why would they not stay in Venice for a few days, then stay in the Dolomites for a few? I just don't get the rush rush. But then on the other hand, K&N come through with smiles and the most uplifting positive attitude. And as short as it was, seeing the Dolomites is always amazing. One of my favorite parts of Italy.
I’m always surprised when foreigners are surprised at Italians mountains. 35% of Italian territory is... mountains 🏔 😊 + 41% hills + 24% plain Nice hike but be more careful next time... appropriate equipment is necessary
the peaks of the Alps are the Italian border, so Italy bordering with France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia has the exact same peasage but facing south, the Dolomites are a bit different in fact they are Unesco heritage. The landscapes that you Americans idealized as Swiss, in the Italian side, are located in Valle D'Aosta or in Lombardy (Valtellina/Adamello) where the peaks are more pointed. An American friend of mine, when I first took him to Couramayur, literally exclaimed: "it looks like the Teton in testosterone". Two thirds of the whole Italian territory is composed of mountains. Ciao from Milan
When Nate forgot he left one of his small bags up on the mountain my heart just froze and from then onwards it was like something out of a horror movie. So glad you all made it back safely down below👍🏼
0:42 on this road there is a town called Longarone, where a lot of years ago on those mountains there was a dam called Vajont. During the night a landslide made the water go out of the dam and 3000 people died. Search it on the internet
...never (!!!) go hiking - especially in alpine terrain - with sandals and without proper mountaineering/emergency equipment! glad that this hike didn`t take a turn for the worse.
Lago di Sorapis is the most instagrammable location in the Italian Dolomites... there are actually quite a lot of tourists there in the summer, but it's still a hike in the Dolomites, and some parts are more dangerous than others, so you should still wear appropriate attire (hiking shoes, etc...)
The "normal" hike to the lake is not at all dangerous, there were people in Jean's and sneakers doing it. You could do it in flip flops too if you wanted to. The "dangerous" part of the video is not a part of the hike. That's stuff they decided to do themselves. Pretty dumb.
You gurls are crazy...you go hiking in that treacherous path wearing those slippery sandals?!! What were you thinking of! Oh my god...my heart almost stopped just watching that trail!
I would LOVE to do this hike but that little cliff you guys went on is so terrifying! Surely there's another route to see the lake? Anyway great video, guys :)
Beautiful country side but I didn't like your video because you were reckless about everything you did you took way to many chances that could have gotten one or more of you killed
Guys you’re crazy doing that in sandals! You’re super lucky that nothing had happened to you! Words doesn’t need to lose another amazing youtubers! 😍 but the views were absolutely worst it! Happy for your lens. Something you don’t want to lose! Safe travels ❤️
I will never skip an ad for your vids. You are the best travel channel and I look forward to all your videos. Thanks for capturing such amazing shots as always👍🏼
the classic familiar images of Italy are Mediterranean landscapes, very dirty cities, ugly houses and third world scenes; the alps are in total contrast: beautiful houses, clean streets and boreal forests
@@NeoMartin0987-v7m "True" Italy (mediterranean part) begins South of Bologna, from Tuscany: that part, even if negatively stereotyped, has many excellences and a high standard way of living, with the exception of some Southern Regions (which, ironically, are the best known parts of Italy in the world). Northern Regions (and especially alpine area) resembles more continental Europe, but - with the exception of South Tyrol - their culture, art and language is just Italian.
to everyone being salty in the comments abt their planning: imagine your worst day on vacation, where everything seems to go wrong. that awful feeling of dread suuuuuucks, and yet k & n keep smiling and recording for us to see their adventures! putting your worst moments on the internet makes you incredibly vulnerable to judgemental comments... and a lot of you take it for granted that they're going to show us their lives. what im essentially saying is: calm down, and just let yourself enjoy the video!
Maybe just cancel the hike if your not prepared for it. Some people seem to act as though they should be above criticism or that we should grovel simply because they uploaded something. It is hard to enjoy a video with reckless behavior. That's not the kind of audience they have. If I wanted video with smiling through recklessness and an audience that just blindly defends everything I'd go watch the Paul brothers or something. If that's what this is turning into, then I'm out.
@@scandisnowgirl3696 - When I say silly... A lot of people were talking about their footwear not being appropriate. The most I have ever been hurt in my life is while travelling because I do stuff I wouldn't usually do at home. Am I getting stronger? Yup! Is it my decision to do the outrageous thing, just to have the experience? Yup! I have been snorkelling at lot lately. Something I normally am pretty scared of. Now I am learning how to freedive down to 40 feet on just one breath. Stupid? Maybe. BUT I also trust myself, and the energy I bring into situations. I got stung by one of the deadliest jellyfish while snorkelling in Galapagos a month ago (Portugues Man O' War). I lived in Toronto for 11 years and watched many people walking & text while they cross the street... Also a deadly decision. As humans... We all get to make decisions that shape our experiences. We can sit at home in a bubble & watch others experience life on the edge, or we can go out and do it ourselves. Kara & Nate are adults...
This video reminded me how much I love the Dolomites and that I can’t wait to return. I was also reminded of the time we visited Oregon and drove along The Gorge stopping to take little hikes to photograph waterfalls. My husband and I are amateur photographers and each travel with a camera, multiple lenses, tripods, etc. As we were driving to our next stop, I realized I was missing a lens and had left it at a previous stop on top of a fence. I thought there was little chance it would still be there when we got back, but we drove back anyways and to my surprise it was there! Phew! I felt that same pit in my stomach when I watched your video and was so relieved that the lens was where you left it! Thanks for another great video!
beeen watching you pair for ages but todays hike was absolutly rediculas what were you thinking no research no real planing just using some information from one other persom no proper hiking gear worst not enough water what a silly thing to do , Come on you pair all these years at it and you seem to be pushing the envelope to far take stock and get organized stay safe see ya
I'm amazed after all this time traveling you're not more organized. Remember the 7 P's: Prior Proper Planning Prevents Piss-Poor Performance. Learn it. Live it.
OMG, I had vertigo just by watching you all walking along that cliff! There would be no way I would have been able to get past that part. Kudos to you all. Love the vlog
This hike isn't even that hard, I did it when I was 9 and my italian grandmother did it when she was 77 so it's safe to say it's not too hard and there is only 1 part that is scary. Yes they should have prepared better but it's not as bad as it looks
You guy’s never cry. I cried for you....for the bad pasta, No water, Lost lens, no food, 2-euros for a seat.! Destroyed painted toes! Crikey! Great upbeat brother-in-law and sister. I got vertigo watching. I’ve been able to travel to 100 countries with you 2 . Brought travel fever into my life. Love the love you two share. Thanks for the fun guys.😬 my very first time posting after all the countries.
I hiked the alps for weeks on our hike to Belluno and the mountains in Italy are just as gorgeous as those in Austria, South Tyrol, Switzerland and Germany. Obviously, they belong together, but still. Just gorgeous
Lol wow! This was your only video that had me on the edge of my seat in the since that cliff risk had me scary movie scared, I had to readjust my perspective to know yall survived/thrived through it and that was BEFORE the BOYS WENT BACK. LOL Bless you beautiful souls!!❤🎉
Great video guys, Italy is lovely, completely different world compared to my own country (Netherlands) and not even that far away. The Dolomites and Alps are beautiful.
I can’t wait for y’all to come to Colorado in your van. So many places here remind me of Europe and the Alps! You will love!!!! Just be careful...hiking can scary and intense. Just like this.
I should be studying for my exam right now...but I can’t stop watching your channel!! Stumbled across it a couple of days ago and have been watching all your videos non stop since :) hope I can do what you guys are doing one day.
