I was a heroin addict for 20 years. Whenever I heard this, the words were the heroin talking to me. "...I hear you're feeling...down....well I can ease your pain, get you on your feet again" which you believe it can do for you when you're broken. "OK...just a little pin prick....there'll be no more "AHHHH-AHH-AHH", and you may feel a little sick". The perfect description of a hit and what you think it will do for you (wiping out the pain inside). The whole song is like a conversation between me in the semi conscious state you are in after a hit, and the drug that's coursing through you.....telling you how it's good for you and yet mocking you. A little deep maybe but that was what the song was to me. When I hear it now after 10 years clean, i'm right back there. Makes me cry every time because of how it takes me right into those moments and reminds me of the way it talks you into thinking it's helping you.

This is why I shake my head at Boomers that still believe ridiculous things like "spare the rod spoil the child" and joke about beating their children. Complaining kids these days are raised "soft" Maybe you all traumatized your own children so much they want better for their children. Maybe how kids these days are raised isn't perfect but it's worlds better than how barbaric it used to be. Even Pink Floyd was singing about how bad it was back in the 70's and 80's.

@@Mojo_3.14 Most people whose parents gave them a kick in the ass when they asked for it will tell you as adults they're glad they did because it made them better people. If you actually watched the wall it wasn't because his mother hit him, it's the opposite, she over protected him from the world. Plus he didn't have a Father because he was killed in WW2. She didn't let Pink grow up. She treated him like you seem to be treating your children.
@sherrismith1520
@sherrismith1520 2 года назад
@@Mojo_3.14 I have never heard anyone laugh about beating their children. The Instruction “spare the rod spoil the child” comes directly from the Bible. When people live in accordance with the teachings of God, and I mean actually do it the right way, their children grow up to be good, decent people. People who actually care about right and wrong, unlike so many younger people nowadays who seem to have the moral values of Attila the Hun. Stealing, burning, destroying the belongings of others and committing murder all as if they have a right to do so comes from being raised with no moral compass. In other words, not having been raised properly in accordance with the Word of God. About fifty years ago many people decided to turn their backs on God and it is abundantly clear what a huge mistake that was. My parents raised me and my siblings in accordance to the Word of God and we were never beaten or abused in any way. We grew up to be decent, law abiding citizens who love God and our fellow man. Pink Floyd may have made some good music but I certainly wouldn’t look to them, or any musical group, as a barometer of right and wrong. Please understand I am Not saying you do. Also, being spanked is not anything at all like being beaten. Those two things are as different as night and day and bring completely different results. Above all, we must abide in love for one another. The Bible never instructs parents to be mean to their children or to anyone.

The dream being the main character wanting to be a famous musician. Also his mother overly protected him. His dad died in ww2' his teacher beats him, his mom hates his wife. He has emotional break downs. It's a beautiful album that if anyone who suffers from depression, isolation, fear of opening up, many others. Should listen to. Because the idea of the wall is the main character building a mental wall so he won't get hurt anymore.

This song is only part of the story. The entire album is a Rock Opera that tells the story of one man's tragic life. In other words every song on the album is related to every other song...each telling part of the story. This album "The Wall" was turned into a movie (with amazing animations mixed into the film). It is a politically charged anti war film and a absolute masterpiece. You should definitely take the time to watch it.

I remember taking naps on the couch with my dad when I was little and we’d fall asleep to this cd. I think one of the things that my dad gave me that I really cherish is my taste in music. He had me listening to everything when I was growing up and I really appreciate that. Because of him I listen to just about everything. He fostered that in me and once I was old enough to start finding my own interests in music I was able to show them to him and have him appreciate them with me even if it wasn’t something that he’d ever listen to. God I miss him so fucking much. RIP Dad🧡

In an interview released in the 80s, Waters said that much of the song comes from something that really happened one evening when, in order to allow him to perform in Philadelphia, the doctor gave him a sedative for a severe stomach ache, which had probably caused by nerves. On the stage, his hands were numb and his vision blurred, but none of this derailed the crowd, who continued to dance and sing. And it was out of this that one of the main themes of The Wall came about: the disconnect between the public and the band.

When I was 9, my parents almost divorced because my father took me to see Pink Floyd. Best light show in the world! But what these guys got wrong 1. The Wall was the first concept album. There is a definite story, and the album takes you on this journey where every hurt. Every pain that he suffers is another brick. In concert, the made this massive wall, and they tore it down at the end. It was epic! 2. This song is about drugs. Specifically, heroin. It is the introduction, the happy phase, and then the dark addiction. “Ok, just a little pin prick,you may feel a little sick… that’ll keep you going”. Comfortably numb is the tell tale nod of heroin. You don’t feel anything. You just stop and relax, comfortably numb. And eventually, that’s your life. You cease to participate in life. This band was infamous for drug abuse, doing shows just for acid trips, and Sid Barrett actually went crazy from all the drugs. Apparently he spent a month high on acid without a break and went bats-t crazy. The song “wish you were here”. Is about him. And wishing he was even present in his mind.

"Comfortably Numb" is the definitive song for testing whether a First Reaction poster is really hearing it for the first time or is faking it. The tell is that people who haven't heard it before understand David Gilmour's lyrics, but not Roger Waters's. Most of them don't seem to recognize that there are two vocalists, and thus two different characters. It dramatically changes the understanding of the song. You don't necessarily pick up on the menace of the Waters character (a mashup of the childhood doctor and Pink's manager, played by Bob Hoskins in the movie).
