With Goodwill charging more than retail, closing their dressing rooms permanetnly, stickers covering valuable information, never displaying jewelry and other donated valuables in the store, and a CEO raking in a ridiculous profit, I rarely shope at GW anymore and never donate anymore
Everything that you say is true and a couple of years ago when Googling the profits of Goodwill the CEO ranked in the highest profits of any retail store even higher than Tiffany's. Items could be of value but by the time you have to scrape off the price tags the item is completely ruined and worthless.
Goodwill is charging such high prices because they know that people buy stuff and resell it for outrageous prices. The sellers are no better than Goodwill who gets everything for free.
I started yard sale, thrifting and antique shopping with my 1st grandson 25 years ago. I wanted us to create a collection of blue and white china/ironstone for his future family. We have Spode, Johnson Brothers and Wedgewood sets in his hutch. 2nd grandchild has tea sets in hers, 3rd grand has way too much Disney in that glass case. Grandson 4 was the only one who got to chose his collection and although he’s only 12 yrs, we have a good start on vintage cars. It’s been a blast building these collections and memories with each of them. Something that will leave precious memories.
I'm 76, one foot in the grave, the other on a banana peel. I enjoyed my lovely things, but it's painful and difficult to realize and accept nobody in my family gives a rat's behind about them. So, on to Good Will where they will find a home where they are appreciated.
Yaa thangs will be resold at very high prices... Not necessarily appreciated.... Scavagers raid these places...even staying all day...very aggressive... Because it is their work. Sum hire extra space to store what they will sell...
I hate to see homemade things like painted pottery where it looks like someone took many hours to create. I know someone loved those things and their relatives just chucked them to goodwill. It actually makes me sad. 😢
I am envious of the prices you have in Nevada. I never see items priced at 69 cents or 99 cents. Your selections are better, too. Love watching and listening to you shop. So much joy in your voice. Thank you!
The only way we see those prices in our area is if we go to the Goodwill bins warehouses. They're just that, wheeled 20'x6' bins piled with stuff destined for the landfill. I've seen silver teapots, antique player piano rolls, new clothing --all sorts of stuff.
I have something to say about the piece where the price sticker on the bottom covered the artist's name and then the name came off when the sticker got peeled off - shame on Goodwill for being careless with their stickers. You would think they would recognize that there is value to some of these things and the way they haphazardly slap on a sticker ruins the piece. They do the same thing with tape, they tape everything and I've found things that might have been gifted except that by the time the tape was peeled off it ruined the packaging and couldn't be gifted. Goodwill needs to be more aware before they go putting stickers and tape over everything!
Sorry you but Goodwill wasn't created for people to shop and make a Profit. It t was made so people could afford to buy clothes and items they needed. Shame on you?
@@colleenkielczynski1696 Goodwill wasn't created so they could profit 100% off of the donations and the CEO earn over $2million a year, but here we are. They charge boutique prices for the stuff they sell. It's no longer priced for underprivileged families. Shame on you for not realizing that poor families buy goods at goodwill to sell to support their families. Quit being wilfully ignorant that this is not a "charity" It's a business.
Just so you know, Jemes Pueblo is in New Mexico, not Mexico, so your black on white pot is a Native American piece. There are a number of accomplished artists in the Lorreto family but if this one is signed with no initial or first name, it's likely an older piece. It's lovely!
Fun trip. 😊 Antlers sell very well for me. People use them for display, create coat/hat hangers, etc. and some artists buy them to carve. Thanks for taking us along.
Love shopping with you! I used to do the same thing but at age 81, I am no longer able to pursue this delightful and profitable activity. One of my prize finds at a little neighborhood thrift store was a pair of Brazilian made, leather English riding boots in great condition priced at 99 cents which I easily sold for $99.00!!!
Easy way to ship your glassware is to get a spray can of expanding foam. Fill the bottom of your shipping box with the foam. Place your item to be shipped inside a grocery bag. Put the bag with the item down in the foam. Continue to fill up your box with a spray foam let it set and seal up your box
I'm always amazed at how orderly your Goodwill shelves are. Ours are stacked quite precariously, making it hard to see items. Every few minutes you hear the unfortunate crash of glass or pottery hitting the floor!
Most of our Goodwills don’t even have shelves like these. Most items are on a shelf that are on top of the clothes racks. Very hard to see what’s up there.
Yikes. I'm just curious if you've spoken to a manager about that. If you'd like to see changes, you might consider requesting to speak to the Retail Director. It might help.
Tiffany Hi 🌻Great Haul. Love the sunflower bowl. The Tupperware jello mold is a great find. I make a yummy Christmas punch. I freeze some of the punch with 🍒 to float in my punch. Doesn't water it down. The red n gold Italy piece is so striking. I love to decorate with red. I have a plain cheese shaker. We make homemade 🍕often. Sounds odd but someone told me to get a melted candle loose, pop it in the freezer and it comes out. I had a Beautiful freeform glass piece that someone used to burn a candle. So I placed it in the freezer. And after I got it out I started moving the candle and it came right loose. I was shocked. Fun fact...Happy Thrifting
I thought I'd be bored because I love doing this kind if thing on my own but I'm super entertained! lol I feel like we're on this thrift trip together, picking out the same items 😀
Many folks are clueless about picking out the treasures from among the bric a brac. Hearing you narrate your search is somewhat of an education for me. Knowledge of these things is often a woman's skill, but I'm sure there are men who do this as well. For me, it would be helpful to carry an internet connected cell phone and be able to search item's prices at ebay. Collectibles in particular. Thanks for sharing.
I watched this video not knowing that I'd found a Raymor planter at an estate sale today!! It was still packed up in my car!! I would've never known had you not put this video out!! There was this little room in a basement with oodles of planters and I felt like i needed to rescue a couple. The other one is a copper one that I'm pretty sure has a bird wrapped around it. Very hard to research it!! Love your videos!!
I saw a good idea on face book for chipped tea pots, remove the lid, add a little grass and some sticks, and hang them by the handle in a tree as bird houses.
Ziggy, Bandit & Bear - some of the luckiest animals living their life of fun & leisure!! They are beautiful/lovable pets. Tiffany, another great Haul as always. Love to go thrifting with you to find those treasures! 👍👍 ❤️
All but one of the Goodwill's in Vegas do not allow them to bring in anything, even bags to use, they have to check them in when they arrive. This is apparently the one she can bring them into again.
Hi, I watch you from Puerto Rico and I love what you do. Your advices are awesome and highly appreciated. I used to live in NC and goodwill was my thing. Now you inspire me so when I go back. I will be doing that. I'm in Puerto Rico taking care of mom an Alzahimer's patient. But the states is home for me. Thanks for great advice.
What an amazing haul Tiffany. Like the previous viewer said, one can just see the smile in your voice. I love your channel and you sharing your fur babies with us. They are awesome. Love Bandit sunbathing on his back by the window..how cute.
Tiffany, I like how you are so respectful and gentle with all the items you touch. I just love the small oil painted flowers. Lovely! Hi guys, you make me happy to see you. :-)
The shoe forms with the long metal "twisty thing" on the back look like vintage shoe stretchers. A wedge form inside the wood halves is driven forward on an interior track when the long metal rod is turned clockwise. The moving wedge increasingly separates the wooden halves as the long rod is turned. Great for getting just a little more width across the vamp.
I've had good luck using a regular nail file (for your nails, not a metal one) to sand small chips out of glass and ceramics. If they are really small they will file out, if they are larger you can at least file off the sharp edge for a more desirable piece.
DO NOT do this! But in the vein of using nail tools, you can absolutely use acrylic nail dip powder to patch small chips. It will not make it dishwasher safe, but you can match it to literally any color with nail polish or enamel paint.
I walked into GW here in Toronto one day last year, and with a few very specific household items..particularly, dishes...and the very first thing i see on the shelf..with hundreds of other dinnerware pieces .. is a couple of stacks of plain white, full size, plates. So I was thinking that plain white would be good because i can essentially add a myriad of other colours/accent dishes and make my table look great...so i picked one up to look at the price on the back and the first shock was that they were Royal Doulton. The second shock, they were 50 cents each!!! They were flawless! So i bought them all...lol. there were 82 of them!! I kept 12 and sold the rest for $15 each...which was less than 1/2 if the retail value at that time!!!... I dont normally go out looking for resale items...it just kinda happens every so often....and the RD plates just happened to be one of those occassions😊 Not bad for $1015 profit😉!!!
I believe the pottery candle holder that you can see thru is missing a part of the design on onee of the openings. The other two openings seem to have an upper and lower loop, and the third opening is missing the lower loop. Not sure if that is a break, or if it is made to be that way. Your close-up view should be able to tell.
Sooooo many wonderful treasures found today, all at reasonable prices. It’s difficult to say which is my favorite. I think it’s the petite original hand painted framed flowers. So precious. Thx for letting us tag along. 🌺
WOW! I can't believe how reasonable your Goodwill prices are! You would never see anything priced at .69 at my Goodwill. The cheapest I've ever seen is usually 2.49. They've raised all the prices as well on the hard goods. Coasters are beautiful! I love Pottery too!
Hi! I'm always surprised at how Goodwill prices vary so much from state to state. I'm thankful too that my favorite Goodwill has exceptional management and staff who keep the shelves well stocked as inventory moves quite quickly. 😀💞
Our Goodwills charge basically retail prices. It's ridiculous. They often have items with Greenbriar International stickers still on them (Dollar Tree branded items) and have them tagged sometimes as high as $3.99 and $4.99. Usually on cheap holiday resin items or mugs & cups.
I'm curious what area you live in. Some people don't realize that Goodwill prices often differ according to their needs. Since Goodwill's main mission is to provide employment, prices can be higher in areas where minimum wage is higher. Here in California, Goodwill employees are paid above minimum wage to start, which greatly affects pricing. Add to that, the cost of running the organization (rent, utilities, trucks, gas, theft, etc.) can also affect pricing. There are always some great deals though. I've noticed that sometimes shoppers focus on a few items that are ridiculously priced rather than the bulk that are good deals. The best prices will be found on items that have been on the floor for a couple of days and at the outlets. Outlet prices are ALWAYS incredible.
@@VioletJoy I live in NY state. They are paid minimum wage here. They get so many donations that the shelves are overflowing. If they want to get rid of their inventory than they shouldn’t be charging such ridiculously high prices. They’d rather throw stuff in the dump rather than lowering their prices. It’s pretty sad.
I'm glad you don't pick up nickel and dime stuff like some other RU-vidrs you pick items. You know that a good quality and that'll make you a decent profit
I went to the only Goodwill store in SLC today and I am shocked at the contrast between Vegas stores vs Salt Lake. The SLC store hard goods are very filthy, scraped, broken and genuinely gross. They are not displayed on shelves like your favorite store does, the shelves in the SLC store are from the 60's. I need to road trip to Vegas!!
Are the DI stores gone? We moved away from SLC so very long ago, but those were always our go to for thrifting, the prices were very low, and everyone seemed to donate to them to the point that any other thrift shops just couldn't stay open.
I can't believe how much I am learning from you. I love going to the thrift stores but I find I grab stuff that is not worth much. Watching your videos has helped me to be more selective in what I purchase. Thank you! 😊
Do so enjoy your videos. You go just my speed! You may not have noticed, but the open candle holder is broken at one of the cut out (Christopher piece.) Didn't notice until you showed in the haul. Keep picking, it helps keep me out of Goodwill. Ours rarely has anything of quality like the ones you haunt.
Tiffany, this was a great haul! Love the Bitossi pieces. The small floral painting is an Impasto style original. It’s really sweet & something you don’t often find. Thanks for sharing:):)
That little water pitcher...we. Had that when I was growing up. I’m 69. I saw one at an antique shop 3 years ago but they wanted $25 and I just couldn’t afford. Now I’m homebound and can’t go anywhere to look for one. Such nostalgia that I cried 💦 💧.
I saw it pop up just as I was giving up the ghost and heading to bed. I hesitated, but I knew I’d never remember a thing I saw! So I trundled off to bed and waited for today.
I love the J! I was going to write down Laura Caldwell to look for her and then I realized I am already subbed to her! She's great! I love haul videos, but there is always something I want to SEE and people just go right past it! LOL There was a plate with playing cards on it and I wanted to SEE it! I keep wanting to clear out my house and have a "game night" here for my friends, but I probably never will. I have too much "stuff" in here and I'm disabled and can't clear it out and I'm on Social Security so couldn't afford to cook for a game night even if I could clean my house out to have one, but it's fun to dream.
Have your game night, and have everyone bring a snack of their choice. I don’t think anyone would mind at all. You’re missing out on having a good time.
I have that same yellow cake cover with the heavy glass bottom. The cover locks into the bottom. I bought it at a garage sale for $2 years ago; I liked that it was square.
Here I am, at a bit after 2:20 A.M. on Saturday morning and I have your latest Vlog on while I’m sorting and cleaning inventory. I just finished watching a few of George the Antique Nomad’s You Tube Videos, a couple doing appraisals and another explaining his monthly trial sales on eBay that he sets up to test the market for trends and sales of certain types of merchandise. If we want to strive for excellence in our Re-selling, our learning experience never stops. I learn from my Las Vegas friends! Best of everything, my friend! 🤗
The metal serving trays I believe are from the department store Hudson back in the 60's/ 70's prior to them becoming Targets. If they are Dani found some in their original boxes without the wooden handles.
@@Lucinda_Jackson We did too another blast from the past. I would be rich if I picked my mothers house back then and sold it today. Most of the vintage mid century modern decor we had from kitchen to basement. My mother collected art glass.
Hello Tiffany. Another wonderful video. Thank you. You do such a great job showing us everything on the shelves, that I feel like I've been shopping too!
My father used to soak stamps in bowls of water and the stamps would eventually float off the paper. Perhaps the Goodwill label would behave the same way...He then would dry the stamp on paper towels. Good luck!
I like this. You give people time to see things properly, don't go too fast or zoom in only on items of particular interest to you, we get to see a variety of things on the shelves.
I VERY Much agree! Although she doesn't always pick up what I think she will pick up, the camera view shows a whole lot as if I'm getting to shop and look too! I absolutely Love that. Thank you for showing so much and so often and for your pleasant voice and your explanations and conversation. This was my very 1st video of yours to watch and I like your style. I'm also learning some things from you as I watch. I'm new to the Thrift vintage videos on RU-vid and keep asking myself "Where have I been all this time?" Lol. But I'm enjoying all of you posters and finding my favorites. Funny how I watched another vintage seeker on RU-vid the other day and she sounded lost and full of anxiety on how to talk during the video and come to find out she has a huge amount of followers which serious surprised me. The things she picks up too, I'm like "What?!?" But I see she has a great amount of antiques knowledge so that must be why. Otherwise I don't understand. She probably started posting these videos many years ago and that is also why her numbers are so high. But I Really like your style. Thank you for your videos!
Those tall file cabinets are so much easier to store small items your selling compared to having the items in totes that you have to move around. Seems like I'm always looking for something I sold in the bottom tote.
Oh, you missed the blue and white tupperware serving tray right next to the apple cutter, then the Hankook bowls that are very hard to find in the bowls. You can tell the bowls buy the rims which are of s distinctive edging, some will say Hankook made in Korea or simply Made in Korea.
I started reading the comments section & found that they were all correct. You do give very good advice, I agree with yr suggestion to look under items. Some of my best finds were hidden. U also do speak with a smile. It's lovely to hear that as yr being so gentle with the pieces. And I too have sud'd, commented, and liked. Can't wait to c what's next!
This is a suggestion that will add lots of value to all your tins. Rust-Oleum clear paint just spray the outside and inside with this clear rustproof coats of paint and your collector tin will be completely sealed from all sun damaging rays and everyday use. The clear Rust-Oleum spray paint also comes in different shades of clear.
i just found you , im thankful to go shopping with you. i am from the uk, an agoraphobic, so i got a chance to see an interesting person doing what i would love to do but cant. brilliant vidio.
I had a beautiful black German Shepherd Dog named Bear, too!!! Sadly, he's not with us anymore 😔 so thank you for sharing him with us!! (We also have Neptune, a Tuxedo Cat like Bandit!!) Adorable fur kids you have!! And I also enjoyed the thrift haul too 😆 lol
Gadzooks! I’m in Joplin,Missouri. I just donated a vintage pink and copper set 1950’s kitchen stuff. I was tired of it and was clearing clutter. I hope they got good money for it!
I love watching your videos!!! You always are so excited about everything you see !!!❤😃 You are always giving such great ideas for using your treasures also😍🤩 HUGE HAUL. 🤗🤑 OF course my favorite is always the pottery 🥰😍🤩🤗😊 Thanks for sharing your knowledge and adventures !!!! Love ❤️ to see Bear, Ziggy and Bandit 🥰🥰🥰🙌🙏
Hi Joyce! I love what I do and you're right I do get excited when I spot a treasure! Thank you and I too am drawn towards pottery. Snuggles from the furry boys. 😀💞🐾
