Almost MESSED UP His Subwoofer Box!?!? How To Fix a BAD PAINT Job w/ Remys New SML Car Audio Subs!!! 

Happy Monday, Everyone!!! Here's a little care free car audio mix with Remy's new trunk setup 🔊Despite the quick mistake, the results came out pretty nice 😀 More Build Vids ON THE WAY!!! ⚒️

As a painter, I noticed many years ago, that metallic paints, tend to be like candy dyes, where they are more transparent. A good way to stop "tiger stripes" is to lay down a few good coats of a base color, similar to your desired finished color. Also, you won't be trying to cover metallic flakes over more metallic flakes...and get build up. You can hold the can back a bit, and make even, but slightly overlapping strokes,to get a good overall finish. Then clear it with a few coats to seal it in. Just my thoughts to help next time! 👍 great video

My advice would have been paint it with the non metallic paint first then top coat with the metallic to finish it and a clear coat

A little bit of Rubbing compound or polishing compound could get that haze out, they are just abrasive enough to get out some imperfections but not take out the paint coating

you can always do paint correction with light sanding compounding and buffing. if its latex paint might clogg up often will need lots of cleaning the pad for good results. good to keep in mind for later work. Claybar can even remove some of the overspray if your really taking your time and letting faces dry

Nothing like a well built slot ported box with 10s. Just goes good. Dude seems like a great guy.

For that metallic you're much better off with a spray gun and a compressor. Then you can thin the paint if needed and adjust the spread of the nozzle. That rattle can metallic is not great for covering large areas evenly.

I feel ya! Metallic needs a bunch of clearcoat to turn out great... Still turned out amazing with the other paint!

What I found is metallic coats can benefit from a mist coat, like far far away then run a clear over it to fix level any texture from flake.

One thing you did wrong is you never stop and switch direction mid panel. Start just off the side, paint all the way across past the other end, then reverse. It's makes it more even and gets that blotchiness out of it. Long smooth even passes.

Need to sand between coats as well. Metallics usually don’t cover well on fiber materials like plywood and mdf.

Love helping friends with car audio. That box would have looked great with flush mounted subs and carpet.

I started to use spray filler / primer and that made sooo much difference. Before I used regular filler and that sucked up paint like its no ones biddness...

Yeah sometimes paint doesn't go as planned, overall that box looks great. Thing fits perfectly in the trunk 👍

That metallic is a hard product to use. I had the same issues. I painted the hood on my old farm truck with it. 6 years later it looks fine. I'm surprised it actually has held up this long.

skim coat fill the holes , put 3-4 very light coats of metallic and hit it with high gloss clear or roll on some self leveling counter top epoxy / poly

Another way to get a good even coat is to clear the box after you prime it. The clear with soak in as well as give it a better gloss fine once it’s painted. When I paint my planes I always do body work prime then about six coats of clear then paint and the finish comes out amazing always. Love the videos as always.

Hey EXO!!! Get a Zoom Q2n camera. It has a volume knob on it so you can adjust the input of the sound to where it wont clip. It is stereo and 4k and records audio crystal clear and you dont get the distorted sound

Turned out well. Is there a reason you generally use just wood screws as opposed to machine screws and T nuts or inserts? I always spend the extra time and energy to use T nuts. Not only can it provide extra clamping force in situations where there's no gasket, but you can install and remove the subs over and over without wrecking the screw holes. No disrespect, just curious.

im happy subs are still a thing in this day and age,,they were really popular when i was a teen in my first car and im 45 now lol

You should face the subs to the back for deeper bass, then add some deadening material.

Glad to see you are still strong with the bass passion I have been following you since 2013 and you inspired me to get into the bass game then and I had to get re acquainted with everything since it had massively changed since the 90's I loved it my younger cousin got into it for awhile and we got to bond over it and I started going to competitions and competing plus I got to build some nice sub boxes for a few people and I was proud but then one day I collapsed at the dinner table and everything changed long story short after 2yrs of tests and ending up in a wheelchair I parked my car with a 5month old build with the mindset that I will never be able to enjoy that passion again but I kept watching you and I still had just a little spark of hope left then I finally came across a van that is not only set up for my access but it has a lot of good things like upgraded alt but with only power windows and locks everything else is bone stock manual ramp which never fails and lots of room to swap over my build from my car which I sold but was able to have help to get most of the system out of I'm slowly but surely getting things gathered back up and I'm now starting to get my big 3 done and in a few weeks I will be able to get my power wire oreded I don't know how I'm going to get it done with one arm and a partially working leg but I'm going to keep at it until I get it done thanks bruce for not giving up on your dream and giving me the feeling of usefulness again bless you and yours my friend basshead4life👊

When using the metallic ones you need to use the silver prep paint first you'll get better results

Maybe the flake is better to use on top of the normal paint.

Looking at the price of rattle cans now days, it would be cheaper just to get some matching automotive paint made to match and spray it with a gun. Even regular brush on rust oleum, you can thin it and spray it with the gun. You can even add the metalic flakes to it if you want to. Turned out good tho.

Wild how the dude works at a car audio place and still he juat twists the audio wires together and calls it a day lol. Its just like the way that a mechanic doesnt like working on his cars or a plumber will jerry rig a faucet at his own place.

Youre supposed to do like 2 coats of plain jane color match to the metallic, then a coat or two of metallic, then a clear coat.

13:47 Here's the thing that you're doing wrong: Always spray a complete line, starting not on but some inches next to the box. Don't stop spraying until you crossed the end of the box. Then do the same in reverse for the next line. Metallic-effect needs always a base painting. You can use a white 'background' for a lighter metallic-effect or a base with the same or same but lighter color. 15:40 this f.e. would be a nice 'background' paint for the metallic effect (with a little more decent metallic look than with a white coating).

The issue with the metallics is that it's more transparent than opaque. You could see from the beginning that it was gonna take several coats to get uniform coverage. Maybe next time try and find a flat spray paint that is somewhat close to the desired finish color and it would be much easier to get that slick uniform coverage. Still looked great though. Anyone who has followed your channel for any amount of time knew you'd get it right or never stop trying.

I’m not painter or know anything of painting but would of you painting the box blue then went over with clear metallic coat , will that work ?

I just got done finishing my sub box.....went with unicorn spit sparkly sapphire. I ended up using the same brand metallic black for just the port tho and it worked well. Allot of reviews say the metallic doesn't come out smooth bcuz of the flake.

When I did my paint job on my box, I painted it, and as soon as it was laid out, I lit it on fire. The heat brought a better glass out, unless it dried it a little bit quicker to.

i did my box in metallic blue as well but rather then spray paint i used a metallic blue alcohol ink from hobby lobby and mixed it with clear polyurethane my box turned out a beautiful glass like blue and in the sun is stunning

I used that exact same color and paint for my sons PVC Hot Wheels track holder. It did exactly the same thing, blotches and uneven coverage.

I’ve had the problem too. S o the way I kinda fixed that problem was to to spray I one direction don’t change direction. Then 1000 grit sand and then a clear coat. The tiger stripes I would take the paint out and used a Wagner multipurpose spray guy. No tiger stripes to problem. Then a clear.

You didnt even use the paint gun tool!! Lol. And paint tip- spray regular even sprays holding the button down instead of misting it here and there .no need to do a first light coat.just spray it on like a car ..and it might have taken better with black primer. Still looks good though and im sure still fun to do.bass on!!😎

Try grey primer instead of white primer. It takes less top coats to cover for some reason. Had this issue with a red I put down and the paint store said certain colors need grey primer not white.
