An elderly friend of mind died 3 years ago and this has his name all over it. Elderly, not eating well for months, years of daily tylenol, highly confused the day I sent him to the ER and a diagnosis of acidosis that he didn't recover from. Thanks, Dr Mike!

Another important takeaway is that just because a medicine is available OTC does not necessarily mean it's safe, especially for long-term use and/or at high doses. I guess this was a case of hoof beats meaning a zebra rather than a horse

As I listened to the patients health condition he already had I checked off all the conditions. I'll have a long talk next week with my nephrologist. This post is so timely for me.

We don't have enough qualified physicians that think outside the box. I wonder how many people have been lost due to this complication.

I thank you for this. Our son has congestive heart failure at age fifty. Is constantly complaining of knee and other bodily pain, and has been taking Tylenol every day for over a week. His health has been deteriorating, with what you're saying here Tylenol may be contributing to his condition.

I know a guy who had to give his sister part of his liver because she took Tylenol for a few months and it wrecked hers. It's good medicine but not every day for a long time. This sounds more short term due to an interaction.

I had a former coworker who would come to work hung over almost every day and would take 8-10 Tylenol at once. We had to stop keeping it in our first aid kit.

Dr Hanson, My almost 99 yr old Mom has been taking Tylenol for years for her elderly pain..she still has her memory..walks with her walker daily, no diabetes, heart issues, no liver damage etc…just a few elderly problems..but she’s doing great. So, I would say I would rather have her take the recommended dosage of Tylenol than ANY PRESCRIPTION MEDS, including pain meds. I’ve always helped her stay hydrated to help her brain and body. She takes no other prescribed meds. Same with my dad..we took him off Warfarin( with his drs permission)…gave him a daily regular ASA , no more wkly blood draws ..only annual …and he lived to be 94. One has to make the best decision for one ‘s self or/ and their loved ones… work with your drs, but also know you have choices. And, yes, I USE to be in med field for years up until Covid..bc I knew before Covid hit the health organization wasn’t being truth…as we know now WE WERE RIGHT! The two patients you mentioned had many comorbidities!! Pls do your research, same goes to Dr Hansen. Thx

1. I've never seen Acetaminophen spelled like Acidomenifin👀 2. Why in the world is a person going to the hospital for hip pain after SURGERY just given Tylenol? In what delusion is that adequate pain management?? He had suppuration in his new hip.😮 Pain management has gone downhill for patients and had he been given adequate meds I wonder if he would have even had this happen at all or as bad if say he was given percocet. What a shame.

Lately my blood sugar was plummeting. I’m not a diagnosed diabetic. I was struggling through the morning. Guess what it was? The stevia packets in my two morning coffees! Removing stevia & I’m fine. Yes it lowers blood sugar.

The key point is in replacing the antibiotics with another one that does not deplete certain chemical processes in the body. This is of much important if a person is taking a lot of medications and the body is already not healthy to begin with.

Interesting, I knew taking Tylenol was bad and could cause liver and kidney damage, but didn’t know it could also do this. With that said I do take it once in awhile. I get headaches sometimes and it is the only thing that works for me, but I take it carefully. I take one pill instead of two and will only take if the headache is really bad to the point I feel nauseous

I doubt doctors go to that extent of “thinking” to help a patient; usually they go the lazy route: “at your age …” Thank you for being the exception Dr. Mike and try to encourage your counterparts to be better.

Aunt was taking tylenol everyday for years for her headaches. Finally developed stomach cancer and passed away.

That is really amazing and lucky for that gentleman that they found the correct diagnosis. It’s plain dangerous to take too much acetaminophen. NSAIDs are just as bad. I wish there was some other OTC drug that would not cause so many problems. Why don’t they come up with something? 😊

I'm on acetaminophen for chronic pain and this maybe the cause of some of my symptoms. Going to have a discussion with my GP.

What's funny, $30.00 just to see a DR, then the Lab fees. Come back in a month. See the Same Dr, pay another $30.00 co pay , to refer you to a specialist, another $30.00 they conduct more lab work. Prescribes a few meds like bandaids, they help a bit, but don't fix. In 90 days 6 visits $180.00 later no better than when one started? 😢

Dr Mike, could you please address the process in which taking antibiotics block the effectiveness of birth control? And how antibiotics block the uptake of other medications, like anti depressants, anti psychics, and benzodiazapines? A patient on long term medications need to be informed of drug drug interference. Many medications are effected antibiotics.

Patient should have been given NAC to increase glutathione levels. Plus Magnesium (Glysdnate or citrate) because its a muscle relaxer. Tramadol would have been a better choice because less Acetaminophen needed to releve pain. HOSPITAL FOOD IS A BIG PROBLEM! Patient would have benefited from daily green drinks. *So important to maintain excellent health and try to never end up in a hospital.

Take your olive leaf extract and garlic and don't take all kinds of tylenol.

Drastic hormonal changes like puberty, pregnancy/post-pregnancy, menopause, transitioning, can cause us to react differently to meds as well.

This is the problem with opoid crisis. Tylenol will do nothing for his pain. Ok change the antibiotic but you can't replace acetaminophen with antibiotic. Help this man's pain. Doctors don't address pain.

My elderly father has been taking oxycodone with tylenol for years as prescribed by his pain doctor. Should I be worried? He is becoming more lethargic with cognitive decline. He doesn’t have any other major health conditions. All of the doctors tell him he is just getting old, but a couple of years ago his doctor told him his heart was very healthy for a man his age.

He was in his 80’s…he’s old, his body is worn out, just do everything you can to either heal or reduce his pain.

I worked in the nineties for a while in UK as a junior doctor. There they had every werkend at least two or three Paracetamol ODs with suicidal background. It was there, not in Germany that I learned that The Antdote is ACC and how dangerous ig is. Here in Germany in my medical studies it was not talked about

So basically the hospital caused all this mess, by feeding him the Tylenol along with the acidomenifin and Flucloxacillin.

Omg you described me to a teeee. I just started a new med because one of the others was not available anywhere and the new one has 275? Mg of Tylenol and I’ve been worried about taking it but I do and it helps even more than the more powerful one unavailable. Anyway I have a spinal stem implant in my spinal canal that quit working after 10 years so they implanted another type lower and in the past year have been having pain in area where the original electrode was implanted but forget every time I go to dr to ask about it(it’s a long drive). Could an electrode become infected if not touched in years?? They did remove the old battery and wires when it quit working but now the 2nd one quit and I didn’t want surgery during pandemic because I’ve had over 16-17 just with old style batteries and coming unplugged etc. Oh the 275mg of Tylenol in the other med is taken 4 times a day.

No F**king Good (NFG), pardon my english, Tylenol put my 18 year old son in the hospital because his platelet count was dropping due to Tylenol which he was taking for the flu. Awful experience.

Wondering if combined naproxen, methotrexate, and Norco would cause the same issue? My mom (81) is taking 2x500mg naproxen daily, plus 3x7.5mg methotrexate weekly, plus 2x325mg Norco every 6 hrs for arthritis pain.

After which patient was thankfully able to go back to Beer & Burgers....

My internal medicine doctor told me I shouldn’t take Tylenol every day or actually not unless I really need it because he said it is the OTC drug that most people overdose on.

Tylenol - that's paracetamol in English.

...also in some cases (more so for people with blood disorders) the Acetaminophen/Tylenol, NSAID's(Advil, Ibuprofen, Alive) cause Hemolytic Anemia (destruction of the red blood cells)

Take away here. Tylenol and alcohol don't mix. Avoid them both at all cost, intake bare minimum, and never together.

If someone takes Tylenol but also takes NAC, would the risk remain the same?

I have chronic pain after a laminectomy and spinal fusion. I have also been diagnosed with chronic lyme, reactivated Epstein Barr, ME/CFS and long covid. My immune system is kinda screwed. I'm kinda on the younger side , 64. I started taking cold showers night and day. I start warm then gradually go to cold. I swear, this has saved my life in more ways than one. Next I may move on to cold plunges. After years of antibiotics, antivirals, supplements, ozone blood treatments, ozone sauna, I finally decided to try this unconventional treatment. I'm out of pain and have some energy at least for a few hours. Don't try this unless you check with your doctor first. I know with some conditions like heart disease this could be dangerous.

I read where 4% of acetaminophen is converted to formaldehyde in the liver. Any connection??

How long was the patient taking Tylenol? Does taking anti inflammatory drugs create a similar effect? I have scoliosis and use pain medication for my chronic pain. I recently experienced adverse side effects. I stopped taking Tylenol because it was giving me diarrhea and unbearable stomach pain. I was directed to stop taking meloxicam because I experienced stomach pain with it as well. I’m taking a topical anti inflammatory (diclofenac sodium) instead for the next few days. I was switching between Tylenol and anti inflammatory every day for about 8 months before the side effects became unbearable. I should also note, I’m taking an SNRI everyday. How long is a safe duration for pain medication and how long of a break should one take before using it again? Thank you for the video!

What a surprise outcome. What a take away. Not all medications work correctly on everyone. JUST like certain medical procedures should be given to all. I had a Colonoscopy which almost killed me. I have a small sized impacted colon which lacerated my insides..Yikes..Never Again..
