The West River Sailing Club's Spring Regatta is the highlight of the East Coast 505 spring schedule. This year the event was preceded by a clinic for the 505 fleet. Seven boats took part in that clinic and there were some lessons learned by many. We made a few adjustments and they paid off bigtime when the larger 14 boat fleet sailed for the unofficial 505 Region 2 Championship as part of the spring regatta.
Saturday dawned with fog and a postponement ashore, before lifting and giving the fleet 4 races in light conditions. We had figured out how to hold lanes in these conditions after some trim pointers at the clinic and took advantage of our downwind speed to place in the middle of the fleet, a place we were pretty happy with!
Sunday started with much stronger breeze and gradually died over the course of the day. The first 2 races were pretty windy and the third was much lighter. We had the tuning all wrong in the first race, figured it out for the second, and then were completely wrong again for the third as the wind backed off. It was still a lot of fun and we had our moments, both right side up and upside down.
These highlights are from races 1, 2, 5, and 6.
