I stumbled across your video while I was researching the Almost Uber Light decks, and I must say, I'm very impressed by your review! I'm a numbers guy myself, so your attention to detail has really been insightful. I'll likely be getting one of these decks as my next deck, so thanks for putting so much time and effort into your review!

I have a block of paraffin wax I just rub it on the worn parts when break. At end of session do the same but use 3 bic lighters in rotation to melt it in. Just a rub slows down razor tail by about 1/3 and is easy, non-toxic, and waterproof so moisture doesn't get in through damage.

That wood glue tip at the end sounds extremely interesting. Because I've skated an 8.0" Powell Peralta Flight Glow deck and pretty much the only reason I stopped skating that was due to huge razor tail. (And I didn't like how the carbon fibre and wood combo started to create splinters, which at times ended up in my hands and even feet. I did like the Flight deck a lot and to me it seems well worth the money lasting so long). I now use the Powell Peralta Flight deck for carpet skateboarding, with which it should last pretty much forever. Maybe the Uber Light is a good alternative though, as it still is a more regular thickness deck to begin with.

I've been using epoxy to prevent razor tail and it works perfect. You also get some added pop since epoxy can dry as hard as glass

Man, that was an excellent review. I really appreciate the precision. So many reviews, websites, shops have such high level descriptions questions go unanswered, top work and great shredding. I have an uber light, not sure if I like it yet, I tend to get more pop out of my element but I think maybe I just need to break her in a bit more. Cheers man, good stuff!

My first Uberlight deck broke immediately. The layers split in half, which I never seen before. Thankfully I got it replaced for free and the 2nd lasted pretty long. I actually felt like it was too light, because I wasn't able to hit my tricks the same on it. I usually skate their Impact support decks I love those.

For people wondering, almost uberlight is like santacruz vx/powel flight/girl pop secret decks, but weaker and way more expensive, santacruz sells their vx for the same price as their regular decks, girl sells pop secret for 20~~ more, powel sells their flight decks for 100~, santacrux vx are by far the most durable out of all of those and theyre the cheapest and they have more concave than others. its obvious wich one to pick.

Great review man. Almost got me hooked cause their epoxy is always lighter by comparison with other board companies. I habe that same PB&J and its a really light, fun deck but started truck cave-in's instead pressure cracking. I had to get the Impact Light to keep up Almost's with its quality pop and concave so I hope it has enough quality compared to the Uber. Clean riding to G. Thanks.

There's no way to beat carbon fiber for stiffness to weight ratio, but hard maple (acer saccharum) sugar maple, aka Canadian rock maple is hard to beat too. You could make a thicker deck with poplar (liriodendron tulipifera) aka tulip poplar, yellow poplar which is lighter and only slightly less stiff than sugar maple, but also softer. An 8 veneer deck poplar deck with a hickory bottom, IDK. Thickness increases stiffness by a factor of the third power, so a small increase yields big results. The depth of the bend in the concave also radically influences stiffness. Think of a sheet of paper flat vs. rolled. It should be possible to steam bend a deck out of solid wood and that might be the best, though there would be an increase in longitudinal splitting lacking those two cross plies. Glue lamination of veneers suited the early cottage industry of California skateboarding well and stuck.

its also key you are only skating your garage and driveway. as soon as you go out into that asphalt and start skating curbs that razor tail will come alot faster.

I don’t understand why all skate products don’t state their weight??? Im guessing they can’t because every tree has varying densities. I’ve got 2 ubers one I’ve been riding and one I’ve been saving. Mine seems to have very low dense wood as it has razor tailed quite a bit compared to my krooked board I just got which is heavier than the titanic! Im expecting my Ivy League impact light in the mail tomorrow and am excited to compare!

How does a board only last a few months? Especially if it's not breaking? Honestly interested
@SkateAgain
@SkateAgain 2 года назад
People describe it as getting "soggy". Essentially the maple fibers start to break and the board loses its concave. The tail flattens out and it loses pop. It's not a huge deal, but you really notice once you get on a new deck again.

Awesome, thank you. I just bought a bottle of Elmers interior wood glue. I'm impressed with the results as far as look and feel of the glue formula. Haven't skated it yet so I'm very excited to see how that turns out. I'm 30 years old by the way and just started skating again last August so it's awesome to see that you have decided to get back on the board. And lastly if you could please make a video detailing your glue method for the tail and the results, glue difference, affect on pop, etc. things of that nature. Keep the passion alive brother!
