@@taylorelise8365 I rotate between several products, it's easy to get a deficiency when using one or two. My base is actually Promix 12-6-6, I usually use it every other feed. In between I use seaweed, fish emulsion, some GH when I make too much for my leca plants, and a few different oddball products like Marphyl. During spring/summer, I feed after every water - soak/rinse thoroughly and then I pour on about a litre of nutrient water at half strength. Make sure you've got enough drainage so you can really flush them when watering, that prevents too much mineral buildup. I let mine dry out almost entirely between waterings, but that's a controversial one.
You're right,it tends not to happen if they're kept well fertilised,&when you think about it,it's illogical, the plant would never increase its number of leafs if that were the case.
I'm going to go buy this plant for myself in a minute and was looking for a video that would say it's an easy to grow plant. And I found it! Thank you very much :)
I’m in love with my Dragonscale, they are beautiful. I got a surprise bloom and since then I’ve had the two smallest leaves turn yellow but had two new bigger leaves.
In our experience, we always cut the flowers before they bloom or else, it wont produce new leaves and will eventually die. It would start to create new bulbs for its new generation.
In my experience, the best way to get a really full-looking Alocasia is to plant several of them together! I either buy 3, or I patiently wait for a single plant to mature and give me corms. I then plant those surrounding the mother when I pot her up.
RU-vid hasn’t been notifying with me new comments I’m really sorry. I haven’t made my own from scratch but I do adjust the BioBizz stuff I buy to make it better suited to the plant 🤗
Thanks! It looks so cute! Do you know what’s wrong with that 1 damaged leave? I have an exact leave on my Silver Dragon and I don’t know how it happened. It grew out just like that.
RU-vid doesn’t tell me when I get comments on old videos, I am so sorry. I think it’s damaged due to the way it came out. So only mechanical damage. I personally spray my new leaves with a bit of water to prevent it 😌
You called this Dragon Scale and then Silver Dragon? I have both and they are very different; yours is definitely a Dragon Scale :) And GORGEOUS - Wow! Mine is down to two really long thick stems with both leaves gorgeous and firm - The stalk is growing and the rooting system was planted into a 16" pot when it was itty bitty and wow! Anxious to see the Trunk on ..both! actually I have 6 different Dragons that began with an 1/8" stalk: crazy fragile, and all of them are down to two awessme leaves and taking-on late fall sun activity through two windows facing SW omg so nice :) Wait 4-6 yrs from now and we'll see some really thick stalks coming along - Keep us updated! TY!
Oh did I? My apologies, I know it’s definitely a dragon scale though as I have both silver dragon and dragon scale 🤗 Your collect sounds exquisite and clearly so happy! 🤯👏🏼👏🏼
You would get many more leafs if it wasn't in such a huge oversized pot. These plants love to be rootbound, and thrive in that condition. Too big a pot, makes poor root systems. Mine have more than ten leafs each, and tower over what she is showing here. Hope this helps.
Great video Abi thanks! Do you know what could cause some of the new leaves to be out of shape? All of yours seem to be perfect shield shape, I’ve got a few that have come out really elongated or have an almost bowl at the bottom of the leaf (very hard to describe).
I think it comes down to mechanical damage / the way it grows in. I don’t so much with this plant but my weirdly growing philos get a spray of water on the leaves to help them come through easier. Good luck 🤞🏼
Thank you for the detailed video. All but one leaf have the water marks on the back on my plant. It has two flowers coming out. Do these marks disappear if the plant dries out? TIA
In our experience, we always cut the flowers before they bloom or else, it wont produce new leaves and will eventually die. It would start to create new bulbs for its new generation.
Is there anything I can do if the new leaf comes out withered and is now dead? Is the plant over now since there's no new leaf for it to continue growing?
2 months ago I bought this plant online and the condition wasnt very good 🙁 2 leaves developed a fungus within 2 days so i ended up cutting them off. Now its left with 1 smallish leaf which is nice and healthy tho. Will there ever be more leaves coming? 😅 Im starting to get impatient 🙈
Yes it was and it’ll feel like it takes forever to get there, however once it starts it’ll keep growing. It sounds like it’s had a little stress from the fungus etc so be easy on yourself it will happen. Older leaves dropping off is very normal with alocasias. Sad but normal 💛
I bought the BioBizz 50L from EBay. It used to be £15. I now use a mix of that and sometimes GrowTropicals Jungle Mix. However they also have alocasia mix 👌🏼
This is not a large plant, even as an aggregate. However, to be open and honest about it, there are three different plants in that pot, each with only three or four leafs on them. They look decent, but it's misleading to say my "plant is really healthy and happy." It should be my plants are really healthy and happy, plural.
