I ended up finding my Frydek at a discount bargin store here in Canada with 11 leaves on it for $10.....I grabbed that thing and ran to the register as fast as my little legs could move , It was the only one in the store and surely that price had to be a mistake.

I totally agree on the moisture meter!!! That was the key to me actually starting to keep plants alive on my journey!!! No, it’s not completely fool proof, but omg it allowed me to start with Alocasias, and I love them!!! Thank you for the video as usual - your personality is so genuine and hilarious - keep doing what you’re doing bc you are great at it!!! 🌱💚

2 1/2 years into me actually collecting houseplants and I also still use my water meter as well👍 mostly for some of my larger plants that don't always show obvious signs of being dry. It can be super helpful!

I couldn't agree more on the moisture meter thing. When I got my first Monstera albo I was frightened. I didn't get the plant because everybody wanted it but because I honestly just adored (and still do) the way it looked. So, of course, I waited patiently until I got a chance to buy an established (rather large actually) plant to an acceptable price. And there we were, me and my forever-fav plant up until this day. Whenever I felt like I had to water it I checked with the moisture meter first. 9 out of 10 times there was ABSOLUTELY no need to water the poor thing unless I wanted to suffocate it. Withing a few weeks I got a hang of it. I not only relaxed but made that plant thrive and that's exactly what you described. You can't use your experience with watering when u absolutely have none ;) I rarely use the meter anymore. Especially because I use a mix so chunky it will tell me there's a drought right after I watered 🤣 yet on my allocasias it came in handy from time to time ever since.

It's actually called a Maxkowskii (Or Alocasia micholitziana 'maxkowskii'). 😁 Green Velvet is also acceptable. I got mine home around 2½ weeks ago (It's 32 inches tall!) sent over 4 days from Netherlands to the cold North of Denmark. Absolutely love this plant, and I literally pet it every time I walk past it haha.

I got one at Wakmart in Toronto for 20.00! Couldn’t believe it. I’ve never seen sold before or since. Had 3 leaves and now they have 7 in two months. I got a small varigated by a local seller. Tiny three leaves in moss. Its just unfurled a new leaf. Fingers crossed.

It became a lot more available here in Canada as well. There's even a lot of variegated ones more and more available. I guess from TC. Wich is good. They are about 120/160$ range for now. Thx for the video. Frydek is my favorite Alo. Yours is just wow ! 😊

I got some corms from my black velvet during repotting and left one still attached to the mama-plant. I got them all rooted and the speed was roughly the same. The difference I noticed was in the strength of the new plants: the one that stayed attached to the mother plant got giant first leave, it was roughly 3x larger than the others (propagated in perlite). However, its not a good experiment, as the conditions were clearly very different (perlite prop box close to light source vs. aroid mix in terracotta in a dark corner and watering when almost fully dry).

9:46, I have just split the babies off a mother snake plant which sounds exactly as you described. I let the cuts heal, 2 hours, then added wax to the cut bit and planted them. I’ll let you know what happens 😂🤞

Heyy awesome and super helpful video.. actually all your vids are lol 🙌🏻 Question: I have a young alocasia fry with beautiful leaves about 8-9inches however. At the moment there’s 4 leaves two large and two medium. I did see a new leaf start to form.. all of a sudden one leaf is being superrrr droopy and I don’t know why. No burns no yellowing no dryness. What’s the reason for this leafe to be acting up lol? Im legit on my plants everyday under the scope and making sure things are up to par… Please help… thanks 💪🏻🌱
@yourguitargf
@yourguitargf Год назад
Although it’s been 11 months, I’m still going to answer in case you still need it. I have heard Alocasias can only support a few leaves at a time, so it might drop an older leaf to produce a new one. If it is old and yellowing, it’s probably worth it to cut it off to promote new growth. Give it a good look-over first though, I’m not 100% sure.
