Is there anything this wonderful performer can't do? She gives an altogether different rendition of this well known G&S aria which renders it totally her own. I remember seeing her as the lead in Irene at the Adelphi, London, in 1976. She blew me away then and still continues to do so today. Australia (and we at home in Great Britain) should be justly proud of her success.
one of the greatest sad songs about despondency ever ..... and there have been a few million ! WS Gilbert may have enjoyed tearing apart the hearts of the audience ---- showing every so often (or even more) that he could write lyrics as powerful as this inbetween demolishing the pompous establishments of that day ~ and this day too >>>>>> Dave in Liverpool [fan and friend of the late John Reed]
Whazzat Jules had more than a wonderful orchestra behind her. She’d have shone (and did) beyond 8 shows a week. As someone in that cast, I can assure you she was everything for this production.
