Social isolation has long been known to affect mental health, but new information shows it can also increase the risk of poor physical health and early death. With direct connections to depression, suicide, dementia, stroke, coronary disease and poor sleep, isolation is having an ominous and widespread effect. Even before the COVID pandemic brought enforced isolation, as many as 30 percent of people of all ages reported feeling lonely. During the pandemic, that number nearly doubled.
This 30-minute documentary by producer Beth Dolinar, explores the ways in which the spaces between us can contribute to mental and physical suffering. We are introduced to a diverse group of people who speak candidly about how isolation exacerbated their experiences with alcoholism, suicide attempts, and emotional trauma, as well as the stigma associated with loneliness. And we join them as they share their journeys from isolation to hope and re-connection.

This little film deserves so much more recognition than it has gotten. Everyone behind this should feel immensely proud of what they’ve done here!

I had a slightly odd experience as I watched some youtube documentaries tonight. Both this video, and another video I watched (it was about male depression) contained a song. That song, in both videos was the song called "Be Thou My Vision", A Christian hymn sharing the joy of having The Lord's vision as one of our own. I found this quite "coincidental" but comforting nonetheless considering the great amount of difficulties I have gone through the past few years. I'm a 26-year-old guy, a bit behind in life. Trying to figure it out. Out of anything so far in my life, the only thing that really matters to me is connection to and relationship with The Lord Jesus Christ. Out of anything, He has given me the will to live, hope for the future, and comfort in great darkness. Many, many people doubt the existence of Jesus Christ, but it is so undeniable to me an dI wish all would see that He is real, and that He came to seek and save lost souls from hell, to live with Him for eternity in Heaven. Living in 2023 is extremely tough. But all the really matters to me is, am I going to Heaven and what can I do with my life in the mean time to help others trust Jesus Christ as their savior, so that they can go to Heaven too

I've got to say that this film is pretty stereotypical in its message. It is reinforcing the stigma by showing people repeating it and not encouraging them to really dig into themselves to share what the experience after very long bouts of isolation
