Although this could be Alone's best season ever,the availability of food has turned the show into viewers watching mental breakdowns.

Good recap. Watch Alone Australia, 2nd season just ended. I love the mental struggle and have learned so much about the human condition from Alone. Been watching from the start. Thanks for your recap. Anna from Boca Raton, Fl.

I did watch all on season 1. I wanted to do recaps of season 2 until I realized a winner was already announced. I thought it would be a bit pointless.I do enjoy the down under version.

people "think' a 30 lb fish is "food for a week. NO, it's 9000 calories, food enough for 2-3 days, depending upon how active you are. That's IF you could choke down 5 lbs of lean fish per day, and you can't. not without any fat, spices, salt, sauces, etc, to help you do so. with te exception of hibernation ready bears and hog in warm areas, only half of a fish or animals live weight is edible flesh. A 30 lb pike is 15 lbs x 600 calories of flesh.

I've several times done 5 months in solitary confinement. It wasnt the lack of people that made it bad. it was being stuck in an 8x12 ft cell and no sunshine that was effed-up. If I had a moose out there and didnt over exert myself to preserve too much of it, I'd be singing and laughing all the way to the bank with my CLEAR 350k and assured future income from a book, YT channel, teaching classes, etc.

do you know what the world record is for fasting? google it. 13 MONTHS. a 450 lb man went down to 180 lbs, under a doctors supervision, on water, minerals and vitamins. He averaged losing 7/8ths of a lb per day, Sitting on a couch, at room temps, but that's a LONG ways from the 1-2 months that the alone people cry about, yes?

the only way timber doesn't win is he gets sick or hurt. He risked both, by a LOT, by not just giving 200 lbs of meat and the hide to editing crew. Trying to preserve all of the meat and the hide was pointless extra stress, effort, time and calories spent, The fat, marrow, blood, total maybe 50 lbs, but constitute over 100,000 calories. All you have to do in order to preserve it is boil it down, mix in a bit of salt, put it in a tarp and tape bag, and bury it under your shelter, where you can protect it. Do that FIRST as you eat the brain and organs, because they have the most nutrients and spoil the fastest. Dip big chunks of the remaining 300 lbs of meat in a salty brine, to preserve them until you can make the smoker, drying racks, get the hardwood needed for the smoking. and slice the meat into bacon-strips. By giving away the hide and the un-needed 200 lbs of meat, I would save myself at LEAST 2 horrifically difficult days of work, potentially making me weak/sick for no reason. That be also potentially causes the loss of the most valuable parts of the moose (as he did by not getting the marrow out of the big leg bones, DUH.) Moose meat is very "dry", offering only 500 calories per lb. Rendered down fat is 3500 calories per lb. So which would you rather have, 10 lbs of rendered fat, or 70 lbs of meat? same calories, but the fat has fat-soluable vitaments and is easy to preserve/protect and you can eat lots more of it than you can lean meat. The fat HELPS you choke down lots of jerky and cambium (for some carbs and fiber). It's best to just chew cambium, extract the starches that way and just spit out the fibers. Then you dont risk locking-up your guts with too much fiber. If the crew wont take the hide and 200 lbs of meat, ok, let it rot. rather than risk your health and the rest of the food by trying to preserve stuff that you dont need. You need at most 2 months worth of food, 3000 calories per day if you just hole up. 60 days times 3000 is 180,000 calories. That's the fat, organs, marrow, blood and at most 200 lbs of meat. By keeping 300 lbs of meat, out of the 500 possible with a 1200 lb moose ) I'm buying 50,000 calories worth of "insurance', which is over 2 weeks more of not losing weight.

i'm in SE OK, and 2 years ago, it got down to -10F for a few nights and didn't get above 0F in the days. That's not common, but it happens now and then, I was raised in S Central ILL and we got plenty of sub 0F nights back then. These people never see real cold, cause the current rules mean that second place gets NOTHING. On season 7, third place would have paid 333k if that person and 2 others had made it to 100 days. Callie screwed-up and didn't know to get her feet up on debris/hot stones while waiting on the ice fishing bs., which was never worth doing in the first place.

the show gaslights us all of the time, about everything. They tried to make it look like Jonas was in trouble, too, when he was doing just fine

Consider the following: a. There most probably are humans who can exist year round in the wilderness but this show does not want those people. The show has to condense it all down into about 11 episodes with a definite ending. b. What is going to occur to this show, probably when, not 'if', a contestant dies possibly due to an animal encounter? * Consider also that the show exists primarily to make money not to share survival techniques.
@TreasureTroller

I agree with all of that. Callie (and Callie is our girl) for the most part said they don't want hard core survival experts.

Good point on the long term health of the participants. Mentally & perhaps physically. It may be an issue for some. But if you watch the YT channels of previous Aloner's they seam to to fine in both aspects. Who the heck is Kaly & Y the f do you keep mentioning an irrelevant person this program???

I'm not thinking about long term. More likely than not all contestants will be fine. I'm just thinking about what we as viewers are watching.

they do NOT have an abundance of food, bro. With the exception of the moose guy. and after a month, the fat, marrow, blood will be gone, because he wasted the marrow/big bones, I suspect that he wasted the blood, too. Arrows kill by hemorraghing, so such kills tend to lose a lot of blood on the ground.

@@TreasureTroller othe seasons dont matter. If you're not getting ENOUGH (ie, you're losing weight) its NOT an '"abundance" When you need 3000 calories per day and you're gttting 1500, the fact that others only got 500 per day doesn't help you any. Yo'u're still starving.

if I gave away 200 lbs of meat and didn't bother to preserve the hide, Id have 100,000 calories worth of organs, marrow, fat and blood, and 150,000 calories of meat. which the fat would help me choke down. That's 80 days of holing up in the shelter and losing NO weight, He scored the moose on day 20 or, (iI think) ad they aint letting this show go 100 days. Plus the others are starving, Lean fish or meat doesnt cut it, cause you can't choke down enough of it to keep from losing a LOT of weight. You need fat animals and the only ones avaialbe (one each) are porcupines and bears.
@user-ci2mn1oy3w
@user-ci2mn1oy3w 18 дней назад
you still dont understand the facts about nutrition. Fish only offer 300 calories per live weight lb and you need 3000 calories per day just to hole up in their shelters. If they are out in the cold, wind and dampness, they need 4000 calories or more per day. A top swimmer needs to eat 10,000 calories per day. and they are NOT fat, eh? You cant choke down enough lean meat or fish to keep from losing weight. All you can do is slow down the rate at which you lose weight. You need FAT animals, and with the exception of ready to hibernate bears, there aint any in the North Country. The Innuit knew to stay on the sea coasts, where they could catch walruses, seals, narwhals, whales.

so you "think" Indiana is warm? lol Bro, northern Indiana gets PLENTY of sub 0F nights and these people aint gonna see even one such night. They wont see a month below 20F. and maybe not at all. Season 10 didn't. cause they were gone by Thanksgiving-Day. Woniya is from S. Cal. So was Callie. Yet they did fine in much colder conditions,, for longer periods of time, especially Callie.

@@TreasureTroller snow HELPS, bro. It seals/insulates your shelter, you can have it constantly melting, in a sock above the pot, which is just simmering, or only warm. so you dont have to travel far for water. Snow shows you what animals you have in your area, and where they are. If you have not secured lots of fish and a bear by snow-time, all you're going to do is starve, regardless. Forget about flopping around in the snow. Hole up, conserve your calories and hope for the best.
