First of all, who gave the crown of Britain (there was no existence of a layered British government at the time of colonization so as you should know, everything was done by the orders of the royal family with parliament) the audacity to think that countries should not be 'left to themselves'. If you're wondering what these colonized countries would have been, had they not been looted, enslaved, tortured, and killed by the British, let me tell you that they would have been just fine. Agreed, governance and related administration kept on changing in Asian/African/Middle Eastern countries with different kings/rulers taking charge of them. Still, nothing even compared to the kind of inhuman atrocities that the British brought upon them. Let's take a quick example - so as we all know the Russians invaded Ukraine and two hundred years from now this will be called an invasion, not an act of a powerful country taking things into its own hands lest the other country cannot survive on its own (the exact way you described Britain's act). Just rewind the same thing - Britain's systemic invasion was a way of demonstrating unabashed power and aggression very similar to how Ukraine was invaded and thousands killed (the only exception being that the British stayed on for another 150-200 years exploiting the country and its people). Speaking from a personal reference (taking India as an example), India had approximately 4-5 times the GDP than it did when the British left, and I don't want to go into more numbers, but I hope you do get the overall idea. All I want to say is, that it is not the fault of present-day Britishers that such things happened in the past. I am certain that no human wants another one to be killed or tortured on the grounds of difference in nationality/race/ethnicity/gender and so on. The whole point of listening to this debate is to understand what happened to your country/what your country did and just ensure nothing even remotely close to it happens in the future. And yes, Britain does owe a moral reparation to all its colonized countries because of the reasons stated so far.

India's GDP before the C19th can only be estimated. For these early years 'population size is the far more important multiplier in the equation' as it's assumed incomes were little more than twice subsistence levels in a premodern, preindustrial agrarian society like India. So the total GDP calculated is based on this low estimate of income multiplied by the historical population size. Even Wikipedia knows you're wrong. Search for List of regions by past GDP (PPP)

The British created an Indian coal industry from nothing, a valuable natural resource for India. Coal powered the railways. Without coal India could not have a modern steel industry. Tata Steel was founded by Indians in 1907 and is now one of the largest steel companies in the world. In 2018 the Tata Group "contributed about 4% to the country’s GDP and paid 2.24% of the total taxation in India, the highest by any corporate group". India was a dominantly agricultural society, it was a developing country. Tirthankar Roy, Professor of Economic History at LSE, born and educated in India says: "The volume of long-distance trade in India grew from roughly one million tons in 1840 to 160 million in 1940. (Roy 2012; India in the World Economy, 1942, 652-670, 712.) As profits in trade were reinvested, India led the developing world in two leading industries of the industrial revolution, cotton textiles and iron and steel. For example, in 1928, 48% of the cotton spindles outside Europe, North America and Japan were in India. (Dunn and Hardy 1931, 25.) In 1935, 50% of the steel produced outside Europe, North America and Japan came from India. (BKS 1950.) Like these factory industries, even the handicraft industries did well in the early 20th century". In his book Empire, Niall Ferguson says "By the 1880's the British had invested £279 million in India, not much less than one fifth of their entire investment overseas. By 1914 the figure had reached £400 million".

Used by everyone?? How do you think the slaves were benefited by roads? Were they gifted motorcars by the brits?? The salves did slavery for somewhat 18 hrs a day, and given wages barely sufficient to survive. Forget about using the infrastructure , they don't have the energy to even crawl on the roads.
