Alpine had a disappointing first outing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with their brand new A424. Unfortunately both of the French manufacturer's Hypercars did not see the checkered flag at Le Mans, and in this video I will explain what happened!

I think they should retire from F1 entirely and focus solely on LM Hypercars, not just because this is where the better results are, but also because this means more for their road cars than F1, since reliability is a much higher concern on 24h than in just a 2h race.

@@rickrolled7930Gibson engines are modified Nissan VK45s, of which Alpine had no qualms of using the past, but now they run a standard F2 engine that wasnt built for endurance?! Nissan's engines are global champions in endurance racing from the VR38 dominating GT3 and a heavily boosted one winning the 12 hours of Sebring in a DPI car. Alpine has strong corparate partners that they dont use for dumb reasons!

My father worked for Micha chrome in the early 2002-2003 for Renault had the v10s in f1 and he did the 24 hours of lemans in 03-04-05 btw dad dad is from France 🇫🇷 so when the cars were retired he was not happy 😅

Alpine should get a new engine since Mecachrome V6 isn't giving them a fighting chance to reach to the top of the WEC. Also, Peugeot looks very uncompetitive ever since they added the rear wing.

Both in WEC and F1, Alpine equally sucks, especially on engine reliability. Even Isotta Fraschini and Glickenhaus have far better reliability than Alpine LMH!

I always had reservations over the choice of using mechachrome engines.... It was great to see the new Hypercar setting competitive times & quite interesting to see how well the car managed when fighting direct competitors through traffic. They will have learned some valuable but painfull lessons & I would expect a far better showing in 2025 Le Mans. (assuming they can find a reliable engine)

Mechacrome is not known for their reliability. But, W H Y ? Why Alpine choose it? I prefer AER engine, or, if you want to link Renault with Nissan, VR38DETT engine, bored to 4.0L still fine. Or might be wanna use American V8 is okay like tuned GM LS6. Well, I guess, Mechachrome is not there for long time.

Wasn't their LMP1 car supposed to be the test bed for the engine they put in the hypercar? Or at least that was the plan, right? The LMP1 car at least won a race over the 2 years they ran it. And, that car finished Le Mans without any big issues. IDK, they need to stop using well documented failed failed technology like Mecachrome engines.

Too many brand have gone for a low effort program. I'm ok for small team to go for Lmdh... but Renault, Porsche,Cadillac etc should have built their own car from scratch. At least Peugeot tried... It's ok if they DON'T win. Ps. I notice now that n.35 it's always faster...

Don't be too hard on Alpine - its OK to have 'new car problems' when the car is brand new. At least the car was on the pace when it did run. Hope they can get the engine to work, as it sounds sweet.

I'd suggest being quick but fragile is more hopeful than being reliable but slow. Maybe not so relevant in the BoP era but I noticed Alpine a lot more in Le Mans week than I did Peugeot or Lamborghini - they made it to hyperpole, they raced against the best. They obviously need to work on finishing the races next.

I think that Mecachrome V6, which, as others have said, is a Formula 2 motor, is probably too high strung and rev happy for endurance racing. Sure, the turbo gives it more power. But that is beside the point. The motor is just plain unreliable. So, Alpine might need to rethink what kind of engine they use, or Mecachrome needs to do what they can to make the motor more durable. If it cannot last in a short sprint race like those for Formula 2, there isn't a snowball's chance in you know where, that the darn thing is going to run long enough at a race at Le Mans without going bang.

What's hilarious is Acura managing to make a similarly high-revving, turbocharged V6 derived from Honda's Indycar engine work without any major issues in the ARX-06. This sounds more like a case of the Mecachrome engine being generally shit than anything else.

I think people are blowing everything (no pun intended) out of proportion. Yes they are having a bad year in F1 and, a not so great Le Mans. But I think of ALPINE (not so much Renault) as starting from the beginning. It is a reset phase at the moment and getting rid of a lot of deadwood at present. I have no doubt they will come out of it better, it definitely just LOOKS like a disaster at the moment. And no, they will not get rid of Renault engines in F1 (damn whoever thought of that rumour was smoking something)

At the end of the day, suffering an engine failure on your 1st Le Mans is not very surprising. People are nagging at them because Alpine F1 is struggling and because of the Mecachrome F2 engine but in reality, there's no shame in having reliability issues on your 1st trip to le mans.

IMSA is a competition only on American soil where Alpine as a brand is not present. The WEC covers more continents and allows direct entry into Le Mans.

If I'm brutally honest, it's the reason why I was sceptical of their engine choice since the first place. We all knew that the Mecachrome V634 was a catastrophy back in the days of the Ginetta G60-LT-P1, yet Alpine stood with it.

Putting a sprint engine in a 24 hour endurance race is asking for trouble. You showed the 1966 race, for which Ford needed their cooking 7 litre engine for reliability.

Ok peeps. Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t Alpine win at the 1000 Sebring with the Gibson V8 on 2022? Why would they try with the current power plant? I understand they can’t use the Gibson but isn’t there another alternative engine?

There is - Alpine is the luxury/sports brand of Renault; part of the Renault-Nissan Alliance. Renault could have used their conglomerate connections to secure Nissan's VRX30A 3-Litre twin-turbo V6 engine from their old Le Mans program that was also used by ByKolles. In this era of BoP, reliability is more important than peak power than ever before, so any performance shortcomings would be more easily compensated. In the starts VRX30A engined cars made, while they weren't the fastest prototypes out there, not one DNF came from an engine failure; they were all from collisions or other components failing aside from the engines themselves. Besides, Renault aren't above using Nissan engines in their race cars; most notably the Renault RS01 Cup Car was built based on LMP1 running gear and powered by a VR38DETT engine from an R35 GTR.

If one day Alpine and Peugeot still prove unreliable, who shall fill the void in addition to Aston Martin? Maybe two years later it would be nice for Mercedes-AMG to do similar way Aston does, make a good reliable road car first with driving experience and reliability LMH requires, still using in-house AMG E-Performance sports and racing hybrid (MGU-K and MGU-H on e-turbo), albeit using a very reliable M178LS2 engine in lieu of F1 engine as a base with modification to accommodate LMH reg. I do remember AM Valhalla still uses ground effect as Valkyrie does, albeit adding both active aero DRS and AMG-made M178LS2. Maybe second gen AMG One (or named AMG One LMH) and do not repeat the same mistake Alpine does.

@@kidpagronprimsank05 This is why I believe one day McLaren or Mercedes-AMG shall and should reconsider sports car racing, an opportunity to run prototypes in LMH or LMDh. Maybe due to AMG’s expertise in E-Performance racing hybrid system, it shall and should be better for them to go LMH reg rather than LMDh, maybe a heavily modified AMG One with a different engine in form of old reliable M159 racing engine or racing modified M178LS2 engine would work in lieu of F1 engines.

He did the second stint for the #36, and did an amazing recovery drive after they put wets for a drizzle and had to come back for slicks like 2 laps later, when Vaxiviere was at the wheel for the first stint. He got the fastest laptime between both the #35 and #36 drivers, and got the car from p20 to p12 in about an hour and a half

Alpine should definitely swap out the engine next season. They could use the 3.8 V6 from the nissan gtr as they have ties to nissan. They could also develop a large displacement V6 or V8 specifically for endurance racing. Nevertheless, the current engine can not stay in the car.
