Water heats up in a drought year, O2 levels drop and trout are sluggish mid-day. Only likely bite in early morning. Perfect little stream for a tenkara set up thought.
Perhaps try the same location at a different time, like dawn or dusk. Normally, in the shallows, I'll fly fish; but if there is a dropoff, I'll use a crankbait and toss beyond the drop in order to get the fish that are lingering on the edge of the drop.
Hey Scottie, pro tip: Always go in with a backup rod/reel. One mishap, or a simple gear failure and the fishing part of your day is practically shot. The minor extra weight is always added insurance. That last shot there at Schat’s sent my taste buds into Roast Beef sandwich shock 👊😎...
The Osprey Daylight Pack - my fav day hiking pack. A bear got to it a while ago and tore a portion of the zipper, but overall the bag held up very well and would purchase one again.
@@Sheety33 Glad you're ok! 🐻❗ We've been running the Talon but found that the straps frequently got caught for fishing trips. We'll give the Daylight a go - thanks for recommending!
I got to this lake every year in my birthday! Well I camp at the bottom lake but for the past couple years I’ve hiked up to the upper lake and it’s definitely one of my favorites. Absolutely gorgeous views. I am curious as to when to recorded this video because if it’s the same trail I’m thinking it is I’m surprised there would still be snow in the trail in June and July. Great video Scotty. Still hoping you do a how to video setup video using a water bobber and flies.
@actrujillo1982 Looking at the map, there is a smallish looking unamed pond above crystal. Is that what you are referring too, or are you talking about TJ Lake? If so, have you seen any fish in there? I actually want to go there for my birthday as well. I dont think either lake will be available until at least late july
Great video 👌 I know you’re just starting to get back into fishing but I recommend you get a ultralight set up or start fly fishing because it’s a more natural presentation and you don’t need to buy a $1000 fly setup to catch fish. Fish don’t look up and say “oh snap he has an Orvis!” Lol but great video and love the scenery!! Have to find out where that it is and hike it!
For an area like this I would have tried some Adams Flies first thing in the morning OR early evening. Still a great hike & unlike me you're in the Sierras... so it's a Win-Win!
There are named mountains in this range, but it's called "The Sierra Nevada," or "The Sierra." It's "The Sierra Club," not "The Sierras Club." Just saying . . .
It's Crystal Lake and the traihead is at Lake George in the Lakes Basin near Mammoth, CA. I hiked by it on my way out a few years ago and thought I recognized it.
I liked your channel when you were just hiking and would describe your location. Now with fishing you think you need to keep that a secret and don't answer subscribers who ask.
I really liked your videos where you give all of the logistical details to give me hiking ideas. These secret location fishing videos are losing their appeal. I'm not sure why you would hide the location since you haven't had much success (ha, ha)
Yu may wanna check regs as any structure holding Golden Trout probably isn't going to allow you throw that Panter Martin with that barbed treble hook. Those treble hooks kill fish fairly easily half the time. Check your regs especially when you're posting on social media....just sayn. Further, if you have nt heard of fly fishing with your spinning outfit ...it's very easy and really fun. Flies work when nothing else does. You'll catch browns and quite often bigger fish!
@@Sheety33or as I said you even start with cheap ultra light spinning rod and a bubble! A bubble is a clear plastic bobber that gives yu a little weight to cast that tiny light fly and it also acts as an "indicator" just like a bobber does. And you will find that you'll catch alot more fish with a midge or a nymph style of fly......now git after it !
You should start a fishing channel. I came here for hiking and would like to know where the destination is. I don't care about your "secret" lake locations and fishing. I'll be unsubscribed as of this video.
@@michaelf2404 I did think about that. I Like fishing and if I was there with a pole I'd fish all day. I just don't like watching other people fish. That's boring to me. Because of the RU-vid algorithm if I am subscribed to him and he posts videos with a topic of fishing, RU-vid thinks I like fishing videos so I start getting fishing videos. I don't want to have fishing videos on my RU-vid home page that take the place of the topics that I want to see. In order for me to avoid the fishing videos I have to unsubscribe from his channel and delete his history. It's just my way of having some control of what videos I see when I start RU-vid. I will see him occasionally because he does hiking and I get a lot of hiking videos so it stands to reason I'll see him popup now and then. If I like what I see I might click on it but I won't subscribe. It's too bad because I like the guy and his videos.
