Wednesday night 7:00 p.m.. I'm a 70 year young lady. I play bass guitar in a Christian band. We have covered " Come as you are' by Crowder so many times. it is one of my most favorite songs. So nice to see him on the pod thanks so much for having him.
Favorite Crowder Moment: My daughter and I went to the Adventure Science Center in Nashville to see the revealing of that year’s Winter Jam artists. We sat near the front and the lights were off. Then, what seemed to come out of nowhere, the lights came on and there was Crowder singing “Come As You Are” right in front of us. I cried the whole time. That is still my #1 favorite song. I’ll never forget how God used him and that song that night.
The first time my husband ever saw David Crowder was at an outdoor festival and we walked in when he was on the stage. My husband said, “who is that?” and I said, “that’s David Crowder”. He said, “ I thought it was a homeless man!” Glad to hear that David said the same comment about himself. L O L.
The year was 2010. I was on my way back home from working in India for the past 3 months. I had an overnight layover in Atlanta for a 5am flight to Texas. As I'm boarding the plane, I'm walking through first class and I see a guy in a trucker hat. My initial thought was "a homeless guy somehow stole someone's ticket and is now on this plane". Then I looked again and thought "wait, I know that beard". As I approach, I hold out my hand in front of me and shakily say "sir, are you David, David Crowder?" He slowly looks up at me, still half asleep probably and says "yes, yes I am". I then tell him how much of an impact his music has made on me and that we do many of his songs for worship at my church. We quickly shake hands and I walked to my seat to text everyone I know that I mistook David Crowder for a homeless man. 14 years ago and still remember it like it happened this morning.
I met Crowder in Nashville at Youth Specialties. Myself and a few other youth pastors got to talk with him for awhile after his concert. It was awesome, he is very funny, and a huge heart for God. He allowed us to hold his amazing long go-tee while taking a picture with him.
Hysterical! David is very funny! I recall him being interviewed on a podcast several years ago, where he was talking about how he walks in his sleep. He shared the story of how he went into his closet and peed in a pair of cowboy boots while sleep walking. His wife was watching him from the bed. Such a funny dude.
I turned a toothbrush into David Crowder..beard and all. I foolishly called him aside at Creation to take a picture with him and his lookalike toothbrush. (Surprised his people didn’t grab me under my arms, with fingers tightly around my biceps, forcing distance between us) 24:10
First saw Crowder (and Redman, Tomlin, Shane & Shane, Fee, Nockels, Hall, et. al.) at OneDay03 in Sherman, TX. Always loved the reggae outro of Make a Joyful Noise - I Will Not Be Silent. Great interview and love what he says about a songwriter's responsibility to have good theology when he writes a song.
Met Crowder at WinterJam and he was so nice and so tall, I was looking up at him. Crowder jams, he is unique, and his music is unique. I also love his sense of humor. My fav comedian and musician on the pod! Let’s go!
I’ve had the privilege to lead a lot of kids to the Lord with puppets. One day I was just finished ministering with a puppet and was walking with the puppet back to where I needed to be and greeted a young man with the puppet as I went. He just stared. I asked if he was ok and he said yes. When I was 6 the puppet had led him to the Lord. It was so cool!
As a child of the 90’s, I grew up going to Jesus Northwest in Vancouver, WA and Creation Festival West @ the Gorge Amphitheater…. David Crowder is a part of so many of my festival memories! So many years of him leading worship on Saturday nights at Creation especially. Thankful for him and his gifting! Fun podcast! 🫶🏻❤️ Also, John…. It’s Spo-CAN (not CANE) 🫣

Highschool me screaming at this meeting, been a fan of y'all since like 12 yrs old, jon been down with you even when you were cancelled. Crowder made me cry multiple times through life and helped me with so many things growing up! Both of y'all come back to Boise on tour!
Respectfully, about songs that "just hit" that bring a person out of a funk or make them feel good... remember that the Bible has a lot to say about stuff like that. Principally that the heart is deceitful above all things. We are to approach stuff like this with a serious or sober mind. We don't check our brains at the door because something just felt so right. Just because a song "hits right" doesn't mean it is fit for God's people. Lastly, as a consumer of Christian music, it is my hope that when band members disagree they pray together, argue their points, take 48 hours for personal prayer, & then revisit the conflict. If there's still a disagreement then you don't override the one whose spirit or convictions are still causing them to be uneasy about doing a song. That's my hope/opinion.
Love Crowder! I remember when a friend of mine complained about “sloppy wet kiss” ….just never hit me like that. I was so curious what you changed it to. I raised my kids in the nineties and have great memories like you said of the music of then
I was sad when my church did not like the line of What a Beautiful Name "He didn't want heaven without us so Jesus you brought heaven down" our worship pastor said it implied that God needed us. I still don't see that. it sounds like it sums up the gospel
Really enjoyed this. 😄😄 John, I’m grateful for you and your channel. Your content feels like home-like hanging out with friends and having a good time! 🧡🧡 I also love that you bring musicians on your show! Really enjoyed Crowder's interview! God bless you all!
Just too funny!!! 🤣 Crowder and Crist!!! I love this so much! God bless you both always! “I shook the hand that was in the puppet!” You wanna meet Eugene? Do you want one? 😂
I meet Crowder at a concert in Albuquerque. He came on stage wearing a green t-shirt with a bitten apple saying my bad Eve. He signed my cd by drawing his face with his fro hair! Great guy!
John and Alex! My brother, sister in law, and I are going on vacation to Myrtle Beach next week and on Father’s Day going to spend the day in Nashville. Where’s all the good spots?
Can't wait for someone to go to David Crowder in an airport --- shower him with praise, telll him that they got saved at his concert and walked away from a life of sin - and then tell him "just kidding, but I like your music."
My grandpa met David one time. We live in Montana and he came and shot my grandpa's T-shirt cannon at Downpour in Great Falls and returned to their house to shoot water bottles!
I grieve for John. It seems like how he was talking that he has let go of his faith. I'm glad to see Crowder try to give some encouragement in not giving up on the church.
I love Crowder's reverent approach to songwriting. Wish Bethel had the same. Some bad theology in some of their songs. But that follows their teachings...
I had a major flash of Peter denying being with Jesus when John was saying, Yea I’m a Christian but I’m not with those people. No judgement. Just happened and I thought it was interesting and pertinent.
So many Crowder memories! I’m 30 years old so I started listening when I was a kid because of my older sister! I’ve seen him soooo many times Rock the Universe, house of blues, so many Fl venues! I loved this interview so much to get to see his personality and backstory
That’s crazy - I’ve seen the guardians of the galaxy Christmas soecial- soooo cool! Not a memory, but I’m a bass player that now mostly plays at church… after years of the same four chords and tempos, I listened to Crowder… He is soooo refreshing to play and listen to! Seems like such a humble guy 🩵🙌🏻
when he was talking about the Taylor Swift thing about the foreshadowing, as a Twenty One Pilots fan that is literally everything in their past 3 albums lol
My favorite Crowder memory was back in October 2007 when my wife and I went to the David Crowder Band concert at the Filmore in San Francisco. Phil Wickham was one of the opening acts and had just released his debut album. Crowder also brought out the Guitar Hero guitar and started playing the melody to one of their songs during the concert. That night was truly unforgettable to this very day.
