If you go back that way look up Ashgill Force and call in - its about 5 miles outside of Alston. Its a waterfall you can walk behind, and depending on the path you take for access you have to climb through some little caves to get there. Its mint.
love alston... i was dating someone from there around 2010...she was a nutter haha... been on the train around 20 years ago - think (then) it just went a few miles and stopped in the middle of nowhere then back again... there's also a decent walk along the river you can access from behind the cumberland inn (you can see the sign pointing left @ 19:24..) - then you continue left as you walk down...think it's part of the pennine way?, tho i had to turn back the last time as was some cows and my lady doesn't like them..
I don't like cows either, very unpredictable. I think I will visit the area again probably by my self to walk more miles. The Roman fort cafe looks really nice, brilliant location especially for walkers.
