Some of the Best sounding speakers I’ve ever heard, are two ways . Altec are among the Best speakers ever produced . JBL, Klipsch, Western Electric, EV, ect all have exceptional sounding speakers. Each have their own qualities. I enjoy them all .
This brings back memories regarding the Altec speakers. We had a pair of these speakers wall mounted (really!) in the sanctuary of The First United Methodist Church in Cullman, Alabama. Between my freshman and sophomore college years a friend, myself, and his father built a pair of Altec Lansing A-7 speakers with curved wood bass cabinets. Actually his father built them from the plans and kit we purchased from one of the NYC stereo wholesalers. The Altec Model 19 was the dressed up home version of the iconic A-7 Voice of the Theater Altecs. The church sanctuary was damaged by the tornado outbreak of 2011 to which a new sound system was installed in the renovated sanctuary. I don't know where the Model 19's went after that. Frankly I was always pretty amazed someone was able to wall mount them in the tall sanctuary anyway knowing these were very heavy and likely never designed with wall mounting in mind. They were amazing speakers because of the soundstage they threw. You really could never localize the sound as coming from the point of the speakers themselves. Just amazing room coverage with clarity. I have to say Altec did an amazing job of dressing up a speaker whose roots were very utility in that it would normally be behind an acoustically transparent screen. These speakers, though behemoth in size, are beautiful and look great as shown here. I would love to know the freestanding bass roll-off point as I'm guessing it's somewhere around the mid 40-hertz range in keeping with the original A-7's?
@@robertfrijas8142 30hz is definitely improved over the A-7's and pretty much covers the essential range of human hearing. If I had a big enough room I'd buy a pair today as it really doesn't get too much better and the JBL Everest speakers are $$$$ too much.
That Blue Beret gave me a start! Memories...1964, EOKA, Bishop Makarios, Greeks, Turks, Green Line, .303 aimed at my belly at 6 feet, thank Christ no one there was smart enough to understand the concept of a Chinese Canadian officer. Everyone thought I was a Chinese Communist, and they wanted no part of me.
