I’ve been sewing for many years yet I couldn’t figure out how to alter pants and not lose the side pockets in the process. Thank you so much! Gotta run! I have so many of my pants to alter now!
You are wonderfully creative!! I sewn all my life and appreciate anyone that does - I’m also in to all things DIY. Great hip styling ideas. Never too old to inject something new and fresh into our wardrobe (I’m 72!). Thank you for sharing. I’m a huge fan.
Fun! I remember getting pants altered "quick and dirty" by the ladies in the back of the army/navy store. They could cut pants down quickly and for low cost. Sadly, they are long gone. Glad you're here with this tip!
Oh my gosh!! I have been tapering my pants and just sewing up the sides. Thank you for this tutorial. It makes so much sense and it takes the same amount of time but actually ensures a beautiful fit.
THANK YOU! I work in IT and I'm always stuck trying to find pants that look business casual but femme with practicality like cargo pockets. This may be exactly what I needed! A lot of my office wears khakis but as a pear shaped lady that is a recipe for panty lines and, as the IT grunt, a lot of stains from crawling around on floors and wiring closets. Tailoring a good pair of cargos might just be my holy grail of pants. THANK YOU!
You may not be a seamstress but you are an engineer, a natural talent at that. You have a strong feeling for how things work together in 3D. I'm so glad and thankful that you share that with us. I will use this! (being small waisted with hips and tiny legs)
You are seriously the best ! I’m 60 and learn so many fun and practical things from you . Been subscribed for years ! The iridescent top is fab - yes too cropped but almost perfect . Bet you could add a sheer layer to camouflage the open space . Love the way you made grunge go professional. I’m a realtor and comfort is key but so is style and this is fabulous.
@nujxad this was a comment from 2 years ago. There are tons of videos on RU-vid for comparison. Search for "hemming" or "tailoring pants" or anything that you need done. You can find real seamstress' easily.
You make perfect sense when you explain what you're doing. If I can follow you, anyone can, and that's more impressive than your sewing skills lol! Great hack to know for when I want something that isn't available in my size. Very cute styling ideas too. I would wear them all.
Best one yet.....I loved the simplicity of the hack and the wide variety of styling that you showed.....each outfit got better and better....and the one with the trench coat ....boom 💥
Yessss!!! Thank you Jesus! You are so clearly very competent!! I’m going through a major weight-loss journey, I’ve got not interest in spending more money and time shopping because I love the items I have. Plus I’ve always wanted to learn how to sew and alter! This channel is perfect for meeeee. Thanks for posting!
I love the cigarette leg pants and I never knew you are supposed to cut off the entire inseam! This is a great hack Orly and one that can will come into a lot of use. Thank you!
Orly, you are a genius! I just tapered the legs below the crotch seam. I never thought to cut the whole inseam off and adjust the rise of pants too. This is brilliant! So glad I didn't toss all my old clothes, I can't wait to sew another pair of my old jeans.
🤗rly, I'm not the least bit angry at this hack... My profession was design through to complete pattern & garment making... You are giving tips that help develop this ability in your community... Custom Clothing in the era of fast fashions is a "Very Good Thing" 😘💕
jeeeeezzzzeeeee okay, you gave me the confidence to just order big on a few pieces , and fix them where I know where I need to fix them. I have a smaller waist and bigger bottom, so it fits in the hips and I know im going to be swimming in the waist, im excited !!! so thank you so much!!!!!
Love it!!!! They look great on you, they actually look cute folded. Thank you for giving us an option to taper them and take them in!! Some are complicated for me and you made it easier!! ❤ Thank you. Blessing!!!
I actually did this like 2 weeks ago on a pair of pants!! I came up with the idea on my own. Can't believe this is actually the right way to make too big pants the right size! I did it this way because the other (outer) parts had nice trim I didn't want to touch!!
Wow...this makes me so much less intimidated to do something like this. You make it look so easy...or at least easier than I would think something like this would be. Thanks for sharing your creativity.
I luv a good hack Orly. And you accomplished it. I have taken in my pants in a similar way for years but I usually just take in 1 size, no more than 2 and don't cut the fabric off (unless it's denim). I just pin the inseam and kinda sew in a U shape from cuff to cuff..., iron + I'm done. However I have never taken weight out of the back. That was ingenius to me. I love the idea of cutting the seam away, it saves so much time if u can spare the fabric. I may never rip a seam again... Lol So glad I watched, you may have just inspired me back to my machine 🤔 Thanks! 😊
Love. Love. Love. Thank you for showing this hack! I have to alter EVERYthing because I am 5'0' tall...sleeves, pants, hems and more. As a result, when I cut 2" from a sleeve or 4" from a pant or skirt, they need to be re-tapered so as not to appear "chopped" or too wide at the finished length. I've been blundering around and managing the taper myself, but this makes it so much easier--it's a wonderful, easy, method!
I love how you brave to completely cut out the entire seam & alter it to your fitting this was awesome! Now I won’t be so afraid to cut up & alter some pants that I have. I had to subscribe thanks for sharing! 😊
I can’t wait to try this! I have seen so many inadequate tutorials that simply run a tapered seam up the inseam which makes a weird, amateur-looking rolling of the final seam result. I am a crusty, old, self-taught sewer, so I speak your sewing language, but I would suggest using less technical terms like crotch seam instead of “rise” and perhaps briefly putting garment on wrong side out to orient the viewer about why you do what you do??? Love everything about your style/attitude/tempo, and really approachable videos!
Love the styling portion of the video! Also can you do a tapering video for skirts? I have some knit a-line skirts that are a size to big… also how to replace an elastic waistband on a skirt and/or lounge pants?… Thanks 😊 Love these tailoring videos!!
ABSOLUTELY THEE BEST Pants altering video I’ve seen thus far! The way you matched up the different outfits with the camoflauge pants…🙌🏽❤️ definitely a new subscriber!
I hope this works!! I've recently lost a bit of weight, therfore my pants are swimming on me! But I'm cheap so....I needed this refresher on tailoring my pants!! I will give it a go! I haven't sewn in quite a while, sadly. But am going to start with this much needed fix!! Thank you!!
Love, love, love what you just did. Both the tapering and styling. Thanks so much for sharing this hack. You are saving me ton by showing me how to taper my pants! No need to pay someone to alter my pants! I just wear my pants that don’t fit me right to sabe on alteration cost. Thanks so much and God bless.❤️
For one you look fabulous! And I am like you, I prefer to keep it simple and effective. I have lost a lot of weight and I have come down three sizes. And before I start making new pants, I wanted to adjust the ones I have already sewn. You just help me out greatly. Awesome, thank you!
Awesome ideas! I just came upon my son's old military style pants that miraculously fit me, sort of but tapering them is a great idea. Thanks for a great video!
I love this video and your energy! I just started sewing and this gave me the information needed to try and adjust some pants and this jumpsuit I have that is too big.
you are so inspiring.. I go right to my sewing table immediately after watching any one of your videos.. I just want to sew! I love that tiny iron you have and have searched for one like it...would you please tell me the make of yours.... thank you so much...
OMGoodness this is super helpful! I do sew and I’ve tried the “seamstress” way to take in pants and inseams… and it never works out for me- this makes so much more sense! THANKS SO MUCH
I did this back in high school about 30 years ago with an old pair of Levi's my male cousin was going to throw out. I got so many compliments from ppl asking where I bought them! Great hack!
@@michelleschleis3095 My suggestion is to use the brown thread for denim, lay the seam down like she did and sew it flat very close to the seam, then sew again about a quarter inch from the seam so you get that double line of stitching.
I'm a seamstress working from home and always check out videos for new tips and ideas to make my job easier and improve where I can I am getting really busy. So if i can find a way to get thing done faster I will. Love your video and love the tips. Thank you
Thank you so much. This was super helpful and easy. i bought some pants from Figs and would prefer to sew and adjust it rather than send it back and wait to order another pair 😊
OMG! I bought some leather joggers today reduced from NZ $110 to $20…but too big. I’ve never thought to alter this way!!! Thank you! Magic that this vid came up and I wasn’t even searching 😁😁😁😁
I did this in high school too. Everyone that was in high school in the 80's knows about the super tapered leg. Thanks to Olivia Newton John and the movie Grease. Love the was you explained the different ways to taper and take out volume in the back side. Love your videos Orly!!!😱😘
@@OrlyShaniShow you are most welcome. You are such an inspiration and you motivate me so much to try and create your ideas and it mentally helps me so much so Thankyou x
This is so useful for me. I recently lost a lot of weight and I'm not looking forward to either buying all new clothes or forking over hundreds to a tailor.
