I think these scenarios are very cool and are very entertaining. I think the one thing to keep in mind in these is that none of the states, but California and Texas could exist long by themselves. I could see Oklahoma joining Texas and fast. I could see all the states east of the Mississippi and north of the Ohio plus Maryland, Deleware and Virginia becoming one country. They all need each other for trade purposes as well as other economic reasons. The Rust Belt would immediately become an industrial powerhouse, and rather immediately. They would need to also need to build up their national defense, furthering the need to build back cities like Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Detroit, Baltimore, Cincinnati and so on. The infrastructure and capital is already there to do it, albeit being a bit dated, but once things are fired up it won't take long to reinvest to newer technology. Whether or not the Rust Belt sticks with the northeast or not, would remain to be seen; but if it didn't, I would see PA being ripped into two with eastern PA going with NY and NJ, and western PA going with the Rust Belt.
