cool video! I'm working on a cover of this song at the moment.. and it turned out to be way more challenging than I thought at first. Keeping the alternate picking accurate and releasing the palm mute for the last note while going from the 6th to 5th to 4th string at that tempo takes quite a bit of practice. Not to mention the main phrase takes the space of 3 8th notes (but played in 6 16th notes) while the harmony changes after 16 8th notes. I guess we have a polyrhthm of 3/8 over 4/4? But since the chords change in 4/4 the number of times the main phrase is played goes like 5,5,6,5. (note: they add 2 extra sixteenth notes at the end of the fourth bar played on the open D string because 3*(5+5+6+5) = 63 eight notes but we need 64 eight notes to complete four bars of 4/4). But after some practice the feeling of when to change comes naturally.. at least that's how it was for me.
just want to add a quick tip for anyone having trouble on the first repeat where it goes from 2-2 on the D string to 0-0 on open E: if when practicing this riff you START with the double open E on the 0-0, it'll help you learn the rhythm of it as it's slightly picky (no pun intended). so when practicing, start with the pickup note of the double open E on 0-0, 3-3, 2-2, 0-0, then start the riff. Helps a lot to get a smooth transition imo.
