I think they went with teacher and mercy cause out of the key characters we meet its tracer, solder, Reinhardt and torb. taken has widow, sombra, reaper, and now doom fist and Moira, and seeing this was made before the release of Moira its only logical that the two girls on both teams switch sides.

That is possible only in Heroes of the Storm, I guess, seeing as how alternate versions of existing Blizzard characters are there and Overwatch makes skins only possible through the culture and story provided in the game
If you search for Male mercy you'll find quite a lot of versions with that particularly male mercy. I suppose someone wanted to see her as male but also dark. I don't know, but I smiled cause I recognized it :3
