Should've included this track on the 'Legacy of Phyllis Hyman' compilation cd. It's a hidden gem few people know about...

+Raymond Simoneau ... This one should have been taken instead of the Michel Legrand's boring song.

Apparently Legrand's lover did the song that ended up in the movie. Conflict of interest directly against Phyllis, and ultimately against the audience. The one they went with was trash. This competes with most songs from the Moore era.

I completely agree with you: Gladys Knight sang "License to Kill" for the opening credits of the Timothy Dalton movie, and Patti LaBelle sang "If You Asked Me To" for the closing credits; both songs worked beautifully at each appointed time. The same arrangement would have worked equally well in the case of Never Say Never Again... Lani Hall during the opening credits, and Phyllis Hyman's more soulful song to close down the action with (at the movie's conclusion). This was indeed a missed opportunity for a film I have always loved.

THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS! IT'S SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE THEME THEY DECIDED TO USE! IN FACT, I DECIDED TO USE IT AS THE CLOSING THEME FOR MY 40th ANNIVERSARY RE-CUT OF THIS FILM. IT'S ALMOST FINISHED! I'M SO EXCITED! I'VE BEEN WORKING ON IT FOR MONTHS! I'LL BE POSTING A VIDEO SOON TO ANNOUNCE IT'S COMPLETION! HOPE YOU WILL WATCH AND LIKE MY WORK.

Stephen Forsyth and Jim Ryan wrote the original song but, Warner Brothers informed Forsyth that Michel Legrand, who wrote the score for the film, had threatened to sue them, claiming he contractually had the rights to the title song. Which is how we ended up with Lani's version.

Thank you so much for making this available and the link to the notes explaining why it was not used. Truly a stupid decision not to go with a this version as it blew the Herb Alpert/Lani Hall version out of the water. This would have worked beautifully with a Maurice Binder-inspired title design. Someone should make one up. Kudos to Phyllis for the lovely vocals and the composer.

I actually like the Lani Hall song that was used for the movie, but this really should have been used for the movie. It feels a lot more fitting for what was Sean's final bond movie(Even if it's just a remix of Thunderball) than the song that was used for the movie.

This is awesome. This really should have been the theme, it would have vastly improved the movie. Apparently Warner Bros. was all set to use this as the theme until Michel Legrand got pissy and threatened to sue, saying that he had the right to put in his own title song. Warner Bros. should reissue the movie with this song in it instead lol. Sadly with James Bond this happens sometimes. Alice Cooper did their own theme of The Man with the Golden Gun and submitted it to Eon, but because they missed the deadline it was rejected in favor of that Lulu atrocity. Christopher Lee later heard Alice Cooper's version and said that was the one that should have been used.

Guys there's another song was banded about around this time. It's on youtube but I can't find it. No idea what it's called, but it is sung in Swedish or Norwegian and was recorded live around 1984. Does anyone know what that was called or if you can point me to the link? (It's not Never Say Never by Anita Skorgan)

Permanece o mesmo, James Bond, pois o clima começa pela canção tema. E daí segue pela aventura, talvez não muito emocionante, mas que tem o carisma do agente britânico com "license to kill" não se perde em uma produção, mesmo que independente da original, é isso.

NSNA was a good film, but it was limited in what it could do as a Bond film. Looking back now in 2020 at it, had their been Bond music, gunbarrel, no jazz soundtrack, it could have been bigger then it was. It was missing key elements in those things. But they did what they could for legal reasons.

iluvbsteele THE reason for this is, from what I can gather based on some different sources, due to at the time, the artist of the song was sued by its writer and the producer of the film it was based on at the last minute the film was about to release (which is saying that originally, THIS SONG was chosen to be apart of the film itself). Personally, I think, even though the "chosen" version we got for the movie was adequate enough of a Bond song, Phyllis' rejected track sounds more Bond-like and emphasizes the emotion of Never Say Never Again being (although unofficial/non-canon) Sean Connery' final swansong as 007.

think i prefer the lani hall version and thats not a very strong bond theme either. speaking of music has anyone listened to legrand full soundtrack its like something out of a pink panther movie. this film is shouting out for a special edition - new score , adding the action scenes back in -maybe a 30 anniversary release - pending lawsuits of course.

more then likely eon went so heavy handed on this movie i think they would've not as cared as much if they hadnt got connery, there was so much court battling and the movie the wanted to make just didn't happen 20% of what they wanted to do made it but i appreciate never say never again it may not be as a big concept as what the official bond films were but this film had its great moments the just my opinion
