Alternative To CarPlay? | iPad Second Screen

This might be a great idea that would work getting an iPad Mini (6th Gen) to substitute Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Nice size screen that fits perfectly in 2021 Refreshed consoles for Model 3/Y.
I didn't have a previous generation iPad Mini with thicker bezels to test out.

I think using an iPad mini is a great solution for Tesla or other cars that don’t have Apple Car Play. Someone should make mounts similar to phone mounts

One nitpick Tesla owners have is that they don't support CarPlay. Was honestly hoping for an alternative app to be featured here (even a jailbroken one?)... guess not. However, having iOS is still a bonus obviously. And also pretty cool that the Mini fits so nicely down there.

Yes! Exactly what you said haha. It would be really nice. I would take Android Auto if I could. When the mini was announced I saw the dimensions and measured it to my wireless charging pad and was like..ok this will be the closest I get to CarPlay LoL. And THEN you need to mount your phone so you have three screens up there haha. Great video! Does the mini do wireless charging or would you have to plug it in?

@Night Sky haha. Yeah unfortunately I would have to plug it in but I think it would still be good since the USB-C plug is right there in the center console and now the new iPad mini have a USB-C charging port which is a PLUS!

I wish apple would have put the new iPhone MagSafe on that iPad. I have one and use it the same way- just with a right angle USB-C adapter.

That would've been a great idea putting MagSafe on the Mini. But my luck the next generation will have it 🤣. Right-angle USB-C adapters are a must!

You can buy a Qi charging pad to lightning port for wireless charging. And some plastic block to place on the back of ipad for better view angle. If you do not need to remove the ipad when parked.

Thanks for that idea. I'll definitely keep that in mind. The angle is not too bad for me since I only use it for navigational purposes only while driving. I take it out of my car due to how hot it gets here in Arizona.
