@@jts4248 not an exact same scent. Altair is much higher quality and has more depth in it but they do have some similarities. I say they about about 65% similar afa the vanilla goes
Too bad people don’t remember that fragrance is subjective… what you think is feminine may seem masculine to someone else and vice versa.. it what it smells like to your nose.. lol You do a great job in your reviews! I always enjoy your take on fragrances❤
I bought my Althair last night at the PDM boutique Althair Launch in NYC…By the time I got home 5 hours later, it was in its prime scent… You are correct in saying it smells Fem ! To me this is the Mans version of Oriana ! I love Oriana so Im not complaining at all & Im gonna wear the shit out of Althair because I like Sweet fragrances on a date night or if Im gonna be around woman!
Comes off like a fall focused Love Don’t be Shy with added cinnamon and amped up vanilla. Totally different smell but the vibe is the same for sure. Althair is a beautiful comforting and cozy scent. 10/10 for sure. 🍂🍁
Althaïr falls in the same lane for me as BR540, Instant Crush, etc. unisex fragrance "leaning feminine". Plenty of men still wear BR540 and still get the compliments so don't be afraid to wear what you like. Althaïr has already got me a compliment first time wear during a night out from a stranger. If you’re not comfortable wearing on its own it’s as simple as layering another minimal ambroxan fragrance that won’t outshine or drown out Althair itself but will give it a more masculine edge.
Thank you Melissa for that Love Don't Be Shy comparison, I thought my nose was going crazy because I haven't seen anyone mentioning it 😂 Not masculine at all but also not too sweet that I would think it's for women only. Perfectly unisex for me. Also I'm totally agreeing with your opinion. Wear what you like! Got my Althair bottle yesterday, I'm not blown away and got kinda noseblind from the beginning. Here and there I'm getting whiffs but I find it hard to smell it from my arm. All I'm smelling is airy vanilla with hints of orange blossom. No spices or woods for me. Actually I'm quite disappointed, it's decent but no no scent development/complexity I'm getting. Will give it a couple more tries for sure.
Altair was on my doorstep before any reviewer posted their first impressions. I know this because I looked for reviews the day I got it, nothing. I haven’t ranted and raved about it because to me it’s just a good smelling scent but nothing I would personally get excited over. I'm a guy and I love the vanilla smell this brings to the table. It's like no vanilla smell I've ever smelled before and that's why I like it. I agree, it does fall on the more feminine side to me. I’m more into aromatic fougeres but there's something about this that I like, not love, like. Now, is it worth the 350, in my opinion, I would have paid less but I’ll still wear it and my wife loves it so she’ll wear it too. Overall money well spent for this frag, but if you come at it as a skeptic, decant first. As confusing as my comment here may seem that’s exactly how many will take this scent. It’s definitely mass appealing, but for PDM to release it some will be upset and some will love. I’m sort of in the middle, but I like it. Hoping it grows on me in the winter when I wear it more. So far it’s just been around the house. One thing I will say is that I sprayed it on a hoodie and it’s been there for over a week now.
I ordered Althair from your reaction and first impression video. A true blind buy. I have ordered Acqua Oud, Salt and Pepper, Rejoice from Alghabra from your recommendations. You are batting 100% in my book and I can't wait to receive my bottle of Althair in the mail.
I don’t care what it is. Long as it smells good on me. Melissa got me into niche fragrances and now I can’t stop. I’m a beginner and I really enjoy PDM fragrances. The only one I’m like just meh on is Percival.
Well spoken, this is a vanilla build over a white flower (orange blossom). Close to Oriana/love don’t be shy, changing the tuberose heart and adding more ambrox and a little bit of spices. I have it and like it, but my girlfriend immediately tell me I’m wearing a woman’s fragrance lol.
So I think you don't have to justify yourself if people don't understand that. For me, the scent is very wearable by men and women, so it's a good smell.
At 6:09, I feel so seen. 😅 That’s exactly me. I’ve worn sweet fragrances like Lost Cherry and Bitter Peach. I adore them. But the blue fragrances hit different for me. I love fresh blue fragrances.
I saw a review earlier and she wondered why they released this under the men’s line because it’s unisex but leans feminine. So there must be some truth to what you’re smelling.
It's all a matter of opinion, I think maybe some sensitive people got upset is that you said it was VERY feminine not leaning feminine. Other way people need to try it and get their own nose on it
I would say I am a very feminine woman who prefers to wear classically feminine scents and though I think this is unisex, my immediate impression was thinking this would smell amazing on a masculine leaning man! As Melissa always says, scent is so subjective and compared to most mid range designer "colognes" this would certainly seem feminine by comparison, but in the niche/premium range I think this is very unisex and dries down even more spicy compared to the lightly sweet opening :) so men shouldn't be scared, try on your skin before worrying!
I was one of the people on your other video. And I even stated in my comment that fragrance is entirely subjective. There were some people that did make comments on your sexuality, which I don’t agree with that’s going a bit too far. My largest comment was more towards where this is geared. Though fragrance is subjective I’m not gonna go around and wear fragrances like Oriana or Delena, and say, I find these more masculine when they simply just aren’t. That fragrance is an extremely light wear but with some density it even has a dark woody base. The fragrance literally is a light airy citrus sweet gourmand, that transitions to a dark Sweet woody base.
They literally said they wanted to vanilla in a different way. There is literally a video on parfum de marlys channel about it. Its about 51 seconds. Soon they will post one with others going over the fragrance. They always do
Imagine being so deeply insecure that you get upset at someone categorizing a fragrance as feminine leaning. Obviously she didnt say you cant wear it if youre a man. Thats your insecurity communicating to you to get angry.
lmao, this is why as a heavily tatted basically cishet dude I don't hesitate to blow up people's minds by wearing stuff like Givenchy's hot couture and Dior Sakura, and my wife wears Coastal Carolina 2-6 elixir when she's feeling it on cooler days. Gotta reset the standards and perceptions, we like what we like. At the end of the day, as much as gendering fragrances is dumb and feels like it's intended to exclude some group from the marketing, I think of it as being a communication tool like any other, to help "frag basic" folks land in the right ballpark mentally when understanding what a particular fragrance is all about. It's a spectrum that tells us where it sits relative to other stuff we know of, whether or not it was named poorly by the originators of the whole scene, and that's kind of where I let the issue lie. Fragrance is a weird thing and a really underdeveloped sense in a lot of people, so they need all of the help they can get when they're hearing about it from a reviewer or a text description - and it's hilarious when people get butthurt and bring ego into it when you're effectively doing the same thing as a foodie saying that a sauce is garlicky or something. It's so strange that people get up in arms about it when they wouldn't do the same if you said something was reddish vs bluish, quiet vs. loud or hot vs. cold. It really is sort of just subconscious homophobia and fragility I think, if not just people being afraid to stray from what they have learned as norms. Wordity word word. This has been a lot of text.
Yea nobody cares. There are men's scents and women's scents, scents designed for cold and hot. The notes WORK BETTER in certain temps, it's not some taboo regulations. It's that cinnamon and all spice move through the air better and have lift. In summer alot of fall notes sit and cloy the wearer. Nobody cares that a tattoo dude wears floral. Congrats.
@@tomguglielmo9805 lmao, some dude with 32 views on his 30 second NFS clips telling me what nobody cares about is some peak pony jar basement internet shit, if we're being honest.
Good video. I agree with something you said before. Rock the fragrance you like. I’m a male and really enjoy wearing Black Orchid by Tom Ford. My girlfriend also likes when I wear it. I also have PDM fragrances I enjoy.
As a man I’m not saying this one will test your masculinity or not but it’s a pleasant scent for anyone. I think it’s going to be a great fall/winter scent coming up in the season
You don't have to explain yourself. I purchased this the other day. At the store I sprayed it on my hand and it was strong and lasted till the next day even after a shower. I loved it. I wore it to a wedding last night and I could not smell it like the day before. I will try again. I thought is smelled great when I bought it. Keep doing your great reviews.
Why is everyone saying "im tired of vanilla, im tired of vanilla" like this isnt a praline. Cinnamon. Carmel spice bomb layered on vanilla. What should they layer it on? Patchouli????
Agreed. Smelt it, it’s a nice fragrance but something I rather smell on my girl than me. It does lean more feminine, the DNA is nothing new or ground breaking but a solid gourmand. If you enjoy it, rock it, simple as that. By someone getting butt hurt over an opinion just shows insecurity and no amount of fragrance can cover that up.
Its KRAZY how sensitive, emotional and defensive people are these days just because someone has a different "opinion" of something than they do. Open your minds people, be secure in your own thoughts or opinions and respect other people's thoughts or opinions. Just because someone has a different opinion than you do, it doesn't mean that they are wrong or they are dumb, stupid, or crazy,...They just simply have a different "opinion" of something than you do and that's okay. Calm TF down!!!
I'm a femme who doesnt believe in gendering fragrances; but common sense says that if westerners have been gendering fragrances forever then that means there are "masculine" and "feminine" marketed scents.
Melissa to be fair (I’ve been following you for close to a year now) how thorough can your research/analysis really be for a fragrance that literally just released ? I think some of your findings were a bit premature. However I am a huge supporter of your content and will continue to do so
🔥review love the video Melissa stay motivated dream big 1 mill on the way if you could put any 4 fragrance in the mount Rushmore of all time what would they be video TLTG reviews is doing this
Melissa. Your comments are spot on. Don’t worry about haters. Opinion will vary. Ignore those people. Being gay has nothing to do with comments. You’re doing a great job. Love your honesty and eloquent comments. Thank you for your insightful information. Keep it up. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽✨✨✨⭐️⭐️
Melissa. I was at a huge Niche store today. The store lady is THE fragrance expert of the whole major city. She said once Estee Lauder took over Tom Ford, Frederic Malle, Kilian they replaced 3 to 5 main natural notes with lab fabricated formulations to save $. Also the performance dropped 30% to 50% on average. There is a big sign on the counter talking about Estee Lauder faking the ingredients of companies that got bought. She has been in the fragrance business over 20 years and she is very caring and honest. She explained in detail nuances of many fragrances and note detection. She knew opening scent analysis and had pharmacy level explanations of notes. I had never seen anyone so sharp in over 50 stores I have been in the US. 1 winter cologne she said was a top tobacco note centered one was Tobacco Royal by Amouge.
@@donjawad Lets just say the population is over 2 million. You can get these big name colognes in MANY drug stores, gas stations, etc like Dior Sauvage, Bleu De Chanel, Tom Ford. Also they are all over airports. He/she said ambroxan is amped up sooo much like msg for food. The store gets asked all the time why many designer frags are not on the shelf and the response is on a website now to save time explaining. Pre Estee Lauder takeover they were all over her shelves. I, like many, smell BDC and Dior S. and am not blown away. The reason some on youtube still say it is the best ever is they get free bottles TO SELL and make $. I was floored.
Althair does smell nice but I do think it leans feminine in my opinion with the fresh, fruity, sweet floral notes. A bit too feminine for my taste but obviously to each their own.
I got a sample and wanted to order one, honestly it smells like a butter cookie with extra cloves and cinnamon. There is nothing masculine about smelling like a cookie, hard pass overrated….
Hey, don't worry what others say. That's just their insecurity. And, yes, after smelling Althair this afternoon, my lady and I both think it swings a little more feminine. It doesn't really hit for me. Kind of a letdown tbh. Oh well.
Gosh, people need to stop taking things so freaking personally... the fact that you said that this smells feminine shouldn't stir so much trouble, why are folks getting so "hurt"? I totally agree with you and so did my boyfriend, this, to BOTH of us, lean more feminine, HE even stated that! If folks can't take other people's opinions about perfume, then by all means, STOP coming to YT for perfume reviews. Smell is SUBJECTIVE!!!!
It’s a super feminine perfume idk wtf people are pissed off. It’s feminine guys deal with it. You can still rock it but it’s feminine ❤ left to me I was under the impression you only rock men’s fragrances. Don’t mind the haters.
It's subjective, but to many people it is feminine-leaning and that's alright 😊 everyone should wear what they enjoy regardless of how it might be perceived by others.
@thenae8572 I understand wear it. It is so dam good love it. I just don't think it is feminine by no means but a woman can wear it cause the vanilla is beautiful
You do you, people are crazy, I remember that I blind bought Brioni Intense because of the reviews, and except for the presentation I disliked and wrote my review on Fragrantica, and people got mad at it, acted like thaT fragrance was their family members or something when you wear a scent and people around you dislike it you can not go inside their head and correct them, so be it. people won't like your perfumes because Ash or some other reviewers like them. Stpd people.
I appreciate you as a content creator. But i have to say some of this sounds like youre pandering to these insecure losers. Like technically nothing you said was incorrect. But honestly you couldve summed up most of this video as. Hey it smelled feminine to my friends. you can wear what you want. And dont worry too much for labels. If they get upset they get upset. Thing is about insecure people. Is they will always have a problem. If its not this it will be something else
