After dealing with many huntsmans and other lovely Australian creatures on my cowboy camping adventures, I was delighted to see Alton release an ultralight tent.
I took it out for a 2 night camp where I filmed this review. I hope you find it informative and enjoy. If you have any questions please feel free to let me know below.
The tent is 590 grams, and comes in at $190

Thanks mate - if you use an old issued hootchie in the same configuration (One end pegged to ground, one end high) it has metal grommets - you can just tie the high end of this tent off to the grommets so no need for spreader or separate poles etc. That's how we used to tie off the old issued bug mesh. You can even use light weight bungie type chord - like the stuff round the bottom of a windproof smock to connect the two. if you put mini carabiners on the chord you'll have it all up in less than two minutes.

This is great mate, Thanks for this. I'm taking my boy out for a surival camp next week and going with just this bug net and the tarp so it was a good video to watch.

This is a great review Ryan! I just picked up one of these bug net tents recently to replace the old box style one from Alton that I had previously. The zipper access on the side is HUGE, compared to the lift and roll method you had to employ to get in and out of the old one haha. Also great little hot tip about only really needing to post up one corner on the head end incase you need to get it setup quick for whatever reason! Great to know! Solid video mate! You’ve gained a sub!

Cheers man I'm glad you found it helpful. Yeah I never ended up trying the old box model, it looked too awkward. The new one looks so much better. Hope you enjoy using it :)

Good video to watch. I own the previous model of the Alton bug tent but only used it in the back yard. This design looks different and easier to set up, but for $190 seems a little steep.

Thanks for watching mate glad you enjoyed. Yeah Alton products always come at a high price. I'd say it's worth the price if it's something you would use very often, and enjoy this style of camping setup, as it's probably one of the best mossie nets out there IMO. Probably not worth the price if it's just an occasional use type of deal.

I can just use the inner fly of my 1P tent. Its free standing so i can pitch it anyway, under a rocky ledge for example without worrying about pegging it.

Great review. I reckon its a bit expensive for what it is , most of their gear is minimalistic but you could buy a decent A frame tent for the same price. I'd either just use a hoochie and traditional mozzie net or an A frame tent.

Thanks for watching Charlie. Yeah I reckon this one is gunna be a very preferential thing for most. Personally I don’t like being cut off from the bush when I’m camping, so tents don’t really appeal to me. but this design gives me a frame and a bit of space like a tent without walling me off. Thanks again mate.

You're an Aussie living in Australia not America......call it Swagman camping, not Cowboy camping!
