I have the V-1..it and the Rivera V-1 are the best altra shoes for my feet..they both are relatively soft and breathable..they both go flat at any pace above a brisk walk..for some reason can't seem to give up the ortholite insoles..same as topo..they are sponges in your shoe to soak up sweat..the only service they do is keep your socks clean..within a few steps the foam is totally compressed..most modern designers gave that up years ago..I do see a fair number of Altra shoes, but never on a faster runner..nice colorway..

V2 is 100 times better than v1. They’re barely in the same family! I saw these on the feet of a runner when I crossed the finish line at the Boston Marathon this year!

There's still a place in my heart for Altras, having spent my early training blocks since 2009 in Altras. As I age though, I have strayed, opting for higher stack shoes.

I guess for zero drop fans this is a competitive option. Previous model had heel slip issues and sounds like that little structure might have solved that issue. Hopefully, for the next version they go to PEBA foam and save some more weight (and/or possibly max out the stack)

Time will tell! They've got room to max out the stack as it's very stable as is. The shoe feels quick and has the "fun" element to it that is missing in a lot of shoes!

@@GTE_Channel This shoe uses Altra’s Ego Pro, which is a supercritical TPE. While all PEBA foams are a TPE, all TPEs are not PEBA. This shoe does not use PEBA.

@@mintymilkk Yes, but there is definitely a sweet spot. You wouldn’t want a plate to have no flexibility because it’s the spring from the flexibility that feels propulsive. In the other hand, a plate with too much flexibility won’t add anything to the feeling of speed.

I get it for shorter and faster distances, but would you want to race a marathon with such a short stack? I think it would be very tiring at that distance!

Would this shoe be ok/good for mostly (forefoot) running/sprints?

Yes. It will work fairly well for that type of running. It is a fairly cushioned shoe made for longer distances, but it's light and agile enough to pick up the pace well.

It’s not quite so black and white as some other shoes. It feels nimble enough for a 5k and, if someone is used to running in a zero drop shoe, this is a great mararhon shoe too! Personally, I would probably only take it to the half marathon because I don’t think I train in zero drop enough to not have issues if I wore it for 3+ hours.
