Thanks for answering my questions :) well, I think that best way to describe your music is Cinematic Ambient or Light Ambient. Can't wait for new music. Stay in health Marc.
I really appreciate your work and your humility, most artists would not have the patience to make a video explaining the techniques and tools used to create an album. You are the best...
Thanks for answering my question about "Umbra". The whole Symmetry and Shadow album is a rich experience. I hope you do a Q&A for Time Collection. Illusionary Progression is a fascinating track which I'd love to know more about. On that, two other tracks are really interesting. "Memory Thief" has a really unique feel to it. Is the female vocal pre recorded then mixed in and what if any words is she saying? I often use "What you Leave Behind" as a meditation track! You mentioned something about building a composition whilst playing an instrument? The guy behind Bing Satellites often plays a piano and builds the rest of the composition around it, just, and I quote, "I see where it takes me". His long form is often a lot of drone but it is interesting all the same. I'm so glad there's people out there creating this wonderful sound! Thanks, Mike.
Thanks! I actually recorded a "behind the scenes" for The Time Collection Parts 1 and 2 earlier this year, but felt very rambling and didn't think anyone would gain from it. Perhaps I'll review the footage and reconsider. The female vocals on Memory Thief were built with EastWest Voices of Passion. No hidden lyrics. Just vocalizations.
Great Q&A! Thanks for answering my questions. Yeah, I was curious to hear from someone with all of your experience, because the full-speed/real time rendering (bouncing from midi to wav) is a debate some are still having on forums. The view from the pro-real time people seemed logical and cited specific scenarios, but it's been a while so I don't remember exactly what they were lol. Time Collection 1 is fantastic, listened to that a lot earlier this year, that has my vote for a behind-the-scenes.
As far as I'm concerned, real time bounce is only required when outboard audio processing gear is involved. If someone thinks rendering faster than realtime in a DAW is somehow lower in quality, they're welcome to waste their time with realtime bounces. 😉
Wow. Just recently I've felt the urge to come back to my ambient sandbox and your behind the scenes video sparked even greater enthusiasm to do so, which I finished watching yesterday. I was thinking to myself how awesome it would be to hear more from your creative garage, and here it is... :) Thanks, really. Besides just the pure usefulness of many tips you gave, I really do enjoy just that particular vibe of you doing something you like. Wish you much more space to afford and accommodate your joy of producing. And of course - it would be at least great to peer again into your studio. Cheers!
Thanks for publishing this Mike! I want to tell you that Tracks like the "Tornel Keep" and "Drinking From The Spring Of The Earth" are great amendments to my personal meditation sessions, which typically last close to two hours per day. I use a lot of your work for those sessions and mix it with my own tracks that I drastically edit (paulstretch, reverb etc.) from stock music services. I will also say that I would love to reach out to you in the near future to do collaborative work with you on a project that I've been building for the last couple of years now. If this project takes off, I'd love to be a good source of revenue for you. I will reach out to you at some point to see what we can do in that regard. Can you be reached in Linkedin? Or is there a good means to communicate with you? In the meantime, thanks for all of your creative efforts. Thanks and be well!
