The chap that used to demonstrate and sell these kits at the shows, used an old stainless windscreen wiper arm to scrape the joint while the solder was still molten. His joints stood up to being hammered in a vice.

I did try stainless brushing through the molten Solder but that didn't seem to work any better, maybe I need to be more aggressive with it. Thanks for the tip 😊👍

You have to scratch the joint (with a stainless steel pin or the wire brush) in the molten Durafix, then you will get a strong joint. Because, you have to break the aluminium oxide layer.

Your suggesting I apply the 'weld' and whike still molten rub it with the stainless brush? I'm not saying your wrong and it's got me thinking lol, I've never seen that done in many demos over the years. I did clean all joints with the stainless brush before and during the heating process but that didn't seem to work for me although when heated up I imagine the oxide layer would be almost instantaneous. Hmmmmmmm

You can use the brush to tin the surfaces with the molten Durafix, but it is easier to scratch in the molten Durafix (both surfaces of the joint) with a stainless steel rod. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aQ-W7pzy-qY.html. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Soltx2euJAM.html. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aiThO-UQIWE.html

@@PeoplesCar Yes Ive used these years ago and and while it is molten you drag a stainless steel wire through the weld and it made a brilliant weld super strong ,the only problem was because you only needed a low temp to weld if you do two welds close to each other at different positions the first weld would run out very frustrating

@@williamreynolds8916 I'll be honest I thought I'd tried all that but so many people keep saying had good results i may have to give it another try. Tx for watching 😊👍

Interesting demo, thanks! I've always wondered about this stuff. After cleaning, it might be worth tinning both mating surfaces with the solder before assembly. I find this helps with regular solder, perhaps the same with this stuff?

It's an interesting idea but it melts quite thick so not sure how doable. Not sure of adding flux paste might have helped it flow to the gaps better but at 700 degrees wouldn't be paste for long. Tx for watching tho bud 👍

After you have heated the metal you are supposed to rub the stick on the joint, it melts then. RTFM. Do It properly and it works a treat. Just rub the joint

I bought what appears to be, the same rods from Ebay, and got the same results as you. They are not fit for purpose, like most chinese goods these days. I was thinking of trying the Durafix rods and found your vid, to look at a review first. You have saved me a few quid and a lot of frustration, so thanks for sharing.

I think the Durfix rods have a use for in-fill etc but I didn't get the same results as a few other videos I watched seemed to show when 'welding' 2 peices together. I cant explain why this was, as was careful to detoxidise the Ali even as part of the heating process just before application and through the liquid metal, but .... nope. I was genuinely disappointed with the overall results I got as had high hopes for creating an Ali fuel tank for my engine starter rig etc. I guess will have to keep saving for that AC/DC tig welder! 😅 Thanks for watching 😊👍
