@@cheoscartan9884 The rejection of Breton language in Brittany (can u imagine that? In the native region of that language!) was real for my father when he was a child at school in the 1940's. He was beaten & abused as soon as he spoke his mother tongue. It resulted in a huge psycho-trauma for him: my father was so harmed mentally that he couldn't even spell a single word of Breton until he died. He could understand the language but he never spoke it after such harassment. Fortunately, my mother was much luckier: she went in a Catholic school where Breton was fully respected. In general, religious school institutions were much more respectful to Breton children about this question. My mother stayed a French/Breton bilingual until she died last year. This tough politics on regional languages is mainly related to the French republic, not the former monarchy. In Brittany that is my native regionn, Breton language was respected by all the Kings of France until the French Revolution that quickly set up tough politics of eradication against regional languages. This feature of the French republic is still in progress whatever the current authorites can say officially. Even Louis the 14th who was one of the most centralizing monarch stayed much more respectful to any local culture in the old French kingdom. I agree with U. Beside the fact of performing in Breton on stage, the presence of Breton-speaking contestants at Eurovision is mostly a message of true diversity and reasonable respect to a specific culture in France or in any other country.
I love it when I see there are people who think Eurovision is about diversity. If only every country would send a song with at least a little bit of traditional then this contest would be more than amazing!

"France refuses to accept that kids can be bilingual" This isn't true since half a century : Diwann schools (Breton language), Basque, Corsican and Alsacian schools are totally integrated in the French schooling system, even if they are under represented. BTW, foreign languages are commonly taught in any French school.
@@chucku00 you are wrong. Diwan is not in the national school system. It is an association. Last year , the governement destroyed a law Mollac that protects Diwan . Now they are allowed to teach in breton but not to study the breton grammar more than one hour a week. Thankfully the minister Blanker is not anymore at the governement. How Many official languages are there in France : just one when other countries reconnise many.

What's obvious is the fact this song touches not only your mind that tends to analyze but mostly your HEART, your deep inner self that FEELS what is behind the curtain. Me too, sometimes, some songs and pieces of music give me goosebumps or bring tears to my eyes and lift me up so high because they DO SPEAK to me reflecting a deep part of me whichever their style can be. They can be bumping & lively or more melancholic and slow I feel good when listening to them. What matters then is only grace & beauty. This song has a strong potential indeed. But the band really has to stay focused on their vocals and the staging not to disappoint more & more people who gradually enjoy listening to this song. What means to control their breath and merging their voices harmoniously. What I like the most in "Fulenn" is the mystical eerie atmosphere that is so captivating and mesmerizing. It refers to an old Breton legend in which a maiden who wants to live as freely as possible. She enjoys going out in the dead of night to dance in the woods having fun with men dancing with them. However one of the boys is... the Devil who casts a spell on her and makes her dance till dawn. This is what explains why the magical mysterious layout conveyed by the staging and the lyrics match perfectly. Green colour and fire are certainly THE main elements of the staging: it refers to old Celtic spirituality founded on spirits of nature in which oak trees were sacred. Fire was a way of purifying hearts and minds and a way of symbolizing spiritual improvment. But fire can also refer to witchcraft and magical powers. When U see the position of Alvan the male singer who stands at the center of the stage, he really looks like a wizard casting a spell on anyone listening to the song I think. I'm Breton myself. My whole childhood was filled with legends and tales in which knights, fairies, witches, magicians, kings and queens, God and the Devil, etc. were the main characters. I've kept all this in me. This song speaks to me the same way as you.

I am Breton, like Alvan and Ahez, from Brittany, a very beautiful region in northwestern France, with a very strong cultural and musical identity. Breton (Celtic) music is very innovative: traditional elements combined with rock, rap, electro, even oriental rhythms. I am very proud of this musical creativity in Brittany. Like you, I wasn't a big fan of B.Pravi last year, and besides, I'm not too interested in Eurovision. But I'm blown away by Fulenn. In Occitanie, the announce in train are in both language, in Britain, there the same and translation in Brezhoneg on the train logos. And there is lot of things like this who include native language in our society, if the language want to. But yes, there is a past that shouldn't be forgotten and a time where native language were really persecuted.

They don't sing in french but in breton (the language spoken in Britanny, west of France). I invite you to look for the legend which inspired the lyrics. It is really fascinating.

On assiste à un phénomène type The Roops pour la Lituanie en 2020 avec le titre "On fire" qui avait captivé très vite un large public. Des remixes et des flashmob avaient été produits au bout de quelques semaines : c'est le cas avec "Fulenn" qui sert déjà de base à certains internautes pour montrer des chorégraphies plus ou moins réussies mais spontanées et sympa. Malgré de nombreux détracteurs souvent espagnols et anglo-saxons qui ont tenté de salir - de manière dégueulasse et malhonnête - la réputation de la candidature française à l'Eurovision 2022, "Fulenn" fait son chemin. Et enfin, on voit les vrais fans apparaître comme "NeonVision" qui montre ici une admiration émouvante pour notre proposition nationale.

I am French, but I don't like French entry every year in ESC, I often prefer other countries songs. This year, this breton song made me crazy. I absolutely love it (and I don't live in Brittany). It speaks to my heart. I appreciate so much your reaction, I feel the same. There are other songs I like in the competition this year but not as much. The only other one which has touched my heart deeply is the Sweden song from Cornelia Jakobs, very different style from the French one, but full of energy and heart speaking too. And a specific voice, the kind I like.
